What do your kids eat from the chippy?

I fancy Chinese tonight and dp will have fish and chips.
Kids will only pick at chips and might push to a sausage, really trying to encourage them to broaden their horizons any ideas? What’s your kids chippy order?

They may share a fish or have battered sausage or a fish slice (potato and fish in batter).
Occasionally they'll have chips and curry sauce if they are not as hungry.

DS (6) who is quite fussy loves fish & chips with curry sauce.
Would also eat a fish cake or donner kebab meat, but tends to always go for fish.

GoryGilmore · 19/03/2021 21:33

I’ve never heard of a chip butty splash before today either, but I’m guessing it’s a chip butty with a splash of gravy? Bit like that recent KFC burger.

WorriedMillie · 19/03/2021 21:34

Completely missing the point of this thread, but I need to move to Scotland!

I’m astonished by all these mixed cuisine shops too. I just have a kebab shop that does chips, and a fish and chip shop. There aren’t any other options.

In the 70s & 80s round here, quite a few of the local family chippies were bought by Chinese families who carried on with the chippy business but offered Chinese food too. The one nearest used to just have a couple of Chinese dishes written on paper pinned up on the wall.

I remember my grandma refusing to go any more when the old chap retired and the Chinese family took over. She was pleasant like that 🙄

Our chippy doesn't do anything exotic, just standard chip shop fare. The kids normally have fish and chips, or sausage if they want curry sauce.

The only thing they would never choose is mushy peas, which I blame myself for. I put a blob of mint sauce on them and eat them from the pot with a spoon. It's not nice to watch, I'm sure.

I didn't know some chippies sold baked beans until I read this thread.

crystalcherry87 · 19/03/2021 21:45

sausage and chips or a sausage dinner.

ShipOfTheseus · 19/03/2021 21:48

See, I think it’s odd to get sausage from a chip shop. I wouldn’t call that standard fare.

dementedpixie · 19/03/2021 21:49

I dont eat fish so I'd never buy that from the chip shop

dementedpixie · 19/03/2021 21:53

My local chip shop does pizzas and kebabs.

Just looked and they do spam fritters too!

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/03/2021 21:56

I often make spam fried rice, its amazing.

crystalcherry87 · 19/03/2021 21:58

All chip shops near me sell Chinese meals and then there's takeaways that sell kebabs, pizza and fried chicken and I wouldn't class that as a chip shop.

Amijalah · 19/03/2021 22:00

Haggis and chips every time.

Anyone out there like a white pudding?

runwithme · 19/03/2021 22:02

DS12, fish and chips
DS9, chicken burger and chips

oohmyback · 19/03/2021 22:03

Omelette from the Chinese/chip shop

Timeisavirtue · 19/03/2021 22:46

Cod or saveloy 😊

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/03/2021 23:12

I love white pudding.
I also like a Chinese takeaway ham omelette.

Shaggervalley · 20/03/2021 01:11

Fish Supper (DD) and (DS) Haggis supper or smoked sausage supper. With fritters . Obviously down here ,the haggis isn't available

grassisjeweled · 20/03/2021 01:19

Any update on chip butty splash? Guessing splash of gravy?

Changemynameffs · 20/03/2021 01:23

Cod bites and chips for the kids. Sausage and chips for me.

But if all from the Chinese takeaway then sweet and sour chicken balls and chips with curry fried rice. For all of us. 2 portions to feed 4. Bliss.

Quaagars · 20/03/2021 01:36

I asked earlier too, haven't seen an answer though
hang on
right, off to good old google lol
Google says A butty with a great big dollop of gravy or curry sauce thrown in for good measure.
Seems to be a Northumberland area thing

BarbaraofSeville · 20/03/2021 02:22

You could also have a splash of mushy peas or beans if the shop does them.

It's just a dollop to go in the chip butty. The chip shop we go to charges 25p for that.

Here all the fish and chip shops are just that. Fish, chips, fish cakes, if sliced potato kind not mash and breadcrumb rubbish, all cooked in beef dripping, fish almost always haddock. Possibly sausage and/or pies. Almost never pizza, Chinese or burgers.

Pyewackect · 20/03/2021 02:25

Chips

KatherineJaneway · 20/03/2021 06:27

Where I am in London the chippy's only do standard fare. I always go for sausage and chips as most places can't get the fish batter crispy and not overly greasy.
