What do your kids eat from the chippy?

I fancy Chinese tonight and dp will have fish and chips.
Kids will only pick at chips and might push to a sausage, really trying to encourage them to broaden their horizons any ideas? What’s your kids chippy order?

My two have battered cod and chips between them. The portions here are HUGE.

FoxyTheFox · 19/03/2021 14:07

Oldest two will have pizza, chicken parmo, pineapple ring and chips, cod bites and chips, chop suey roll and chips, or chip butty splash. They're both gannets and will try pretty much anything.

Youngest two will have nuggets, one with no chips because she doesn't like chips so she has nuggets and a slice of a bread when we have chippy tea.

Howmanysleepsnow · 19/03/2021 14:07

Chippy: fishcake or cheese and onion pie with chips or scallops
Chinese: sweet and sour chicken balls with noodles, prawn crackers, Sui mai

CMOTDibbler · 19/03/2021 14:10

Mine has battered sausage and chips, sometimes mozzarella sticks and chips or fishcake and chips

easterbuns1 · 19/03/2021 14:12

Usually fish and chips, sometimes battered sausage, sometimes chicken fillets.

MissBridgetJones · 19/03/2021 14:13

If you are getting Chinese get them some battered chicken balls with chips or plain rice. I'd put some carrot sticks on the side to suppress the guilt!

Megan2018 · 19/03/2021 14:16

DD (18 months) has fishcake and a few chips. She will eat fish or sausage too but sometimes struggles with the flakiness of the fish as her cutlery skills are limited!
Don’t do it too often for her as she’s rather too keen on it! But now and again.
I have chips more often but eat them in secret Grin

amusedbush · 19/03/2021 14:17

@Ragwort

How do you deep fry a pizza? Confused. Surely all the toppings fall off?

My DS loves fish now but went through a stage of having chips and onion rings Grin.

It’s not a fresh pizza, it’s cheap cheese and tomato frozen pizza and it’s amazing. ‘Pizza crunch’ is where they batter the pizza before frying.

You can feel your arteries clogging as you eat it but it’s delicious Grin

BrieAndChilli · 19/03/2021 14:17

oldest would have fish and chips
middle (veggie) and youngest (10 years) would prefer chinese - veggie noodles, spring rolls or veggie thai curry or someting for middle. Youngest loves duck pancakes, bbq ribs, noodles, prawn toast, egg fried rice etc.

TammyTwoSwanson · 19/03/2021 14:18

We have only had one chippy in the last 2 years. A new one opened near us and we ordered curry chips in a bread roll (bap), battered and deep fried.

Holy moly it was delicious. We split it between 4 of us, but we also had chips, fish and battered Oreos between us too!

When I was younger, I used to have chips, fried onions and ketchup. Or chips, cheese and gravy or chips, cheese and coleslaw.

TinyTear · 19/03/2021 14:19

My kids LOVE chicken fried rice from the Chinese restaurant. Even have thirds!

If you are having chinese, why getting them food from the chippy? (if needs must mine love pies of any sort)

BarbaraofSeville · 19/03/2021 14:19

I think on these threads, you need to say where you are and what sort of food your chippy sells otherwise people in other places where the chippy sells different things will suggest food that's not available to you.

For example, your mention of Chinese and fish and chips in the same sentence suggests you're in Liverpool. Or are you getting food from two different places?

Will your DC not eat Chinese? Chow mein or other noodles? Sweet and sour chicken or or curry and chips and/or rice?

Meat pie and mushy peas?

GreenHairThingy · 19/03/2021 14:20

My youngest hates chippy chips so I usually do him some Super Noodles when we have a chippy tea.

If we're having Chinese he loves BBQ honey ribs and some plain thin noodles.

Eldest is obsessed with salt and pepper chicken, doesn't like rice or noodles so has chips.

I only ever ate very plain stuff as a child and was quite fussy, but once I was out and about eating with peers I started to try different foods and now I will most things (with the exception of any fish other than battered cod, and the thought of seafood turns my stomach)

BrownEyedGirl80 · 19/03/2021 14:20

Battered sausage and chips

TammyTwoSwanson · 19/03/2021 14:20

Chinese is normally salt and chilli ribs, honey chilli crispy chicken, egg fried rice, chow mein, curry sauce, chicken balls for the kids, crispy seaweed.

I'm going to order a Chinese for dinner after this thread!

Invisimamma · 19/03/2021 14:22

Ds 6 will eat steak pie or chicken nuggets but he doesn't like chips.

Ds10 will eat almost anything but he really like a king rib.

Dh loves a pizza crunch. I tried it once and it was pretty good. Chip steak or hamburger supper is good too.

Oh I want a chippy now.

LeonoraFlorence · 19/03/2021 14:22

All DDs love fish and chips. Some also like sausage and chips.
I, on the other hand, only like the chips!

DancesWithDaffodils · 19/03/2021 14:22

DS1 scampi.
DS2 battered sausage.
Share the chips between them.

Will share a fish if we are at the seaside and the wait for scampi is long.

GreenHairThingy · 19/03/2021 14:24

I'm kind of Liverpool way and our takeaways tend to sell more than one thing - the best Chinese are also chippies so you get all your pies and sausage combos there as well . If you want a pizza you would go to the kebab shop.

DancesWithDaffodils · 19/03/2021 14:24

But they would eat almost everything off the Chinese menu.

AndWhat · 19/03/2021 14:25

Battered pizza sounds right up my eldest ds’s street!
I’m north west so we have a just fish and chip shop and a chippy which does Chinese and fish sausage and chips as well.
Both kids would prefer pizza or burgers and will only eat prawn crackers when we get Chinese. It makes going there such a waste but I really miss it!

Battered Oreos???!!! (Typo?)

GreenHairThingy · 19/03/2021 14:26

I needed to know what a King Rib is so I've Googled. For other clueless souls like me:

It's a sweetened patty of minced pork, deep fried.

VaVaGloom · 19/03/2021 14:30

From Chinese / chippy mine would have:
Fish or battered sausage with chips and mushy peas
Noodles (chow mein of some sort)
Veg spring rolls
Duck wraps
Chicken hong kong style (battered chicken)
Egg fried rice
Soup

Anoisagusaris · 19/03/2021 14:30

Mine would eat fish, burgers, goujons, pizza, or chicken fried rice or a mild curry if getting Chinese/Indian. Not sure if it’s just an Irish things but they also love a 4-in-1 (a tray with rice, chips, curry sauce, chicken - not battered, just chicken breast chunks). It’s what I call a ‘dirty Chinese’. I always feel rough as anything as ordering it 🤣
