I fancy Chinese tonight and dp will have fish and chips.
Kids will only pick at chips and might push to a sausage, really trying to encourage them to broaden their horizons any ideas? What’s your kids chippy order?

My dds are 5 and 2, I usually get a portion of fish and chips between the 3 of us. I did notice last time that it soon wouldnt be enough and I'd maybe need extra chips or maybe I should accept it's a good thing and eat a smaller share myself 😂

Dogsaresomucheasier · 20/03/2021 07:01

Kid portion of chips with fish, burger or nuggets, a big smile and a fuss about how he’s grown and a free lollipop.

Potpourriandpennysweets · 20/03/2021 07:17

DC1 Pie or fish and chips with mushy peas
DC2 Battered sausage and chips, sometimes a chip butty
DC3 Half a battered sausage, chips and baked beans, with half a bread roll

Potpourriandpennysweets · 20/03/2021 07:21

Our is standard British fare. Used to live near one which was half chip shop half Chinese takeaway, their chips and curry sauce was so amazing. Their chicken balls were also so crisp, as was the scampi. They seemed to do both cuisines really well.

femfemlicious · 20/03/2021 07:43

Im nil by mouth and now longing for fish and chips😢

Blueberryblueberry · 20/03/2021 09:09

I'd totally forgotten about a chop suey roll! Grew up in Liverpool (a while ago!) and yes, all chippies were almost by default also did Chinese food - found it v odd when I went to university! (I also found it odd that no-one seemed to have a cup of tea with their meal Grin)

Blueberryblueberry · 20/03/2021 09:10

You've also got to have a mug of tea and bread and butter with your chippy tea, whatever you order Smile

Rizzoli123 · 20/03/2021 09:48

My oldest likes sausage and my youngest likes fish. Younger likes mushy peas to

MrsGradyOldLady · 20/03/2021 10:07

I'm amazed by all these choices! Where I live it's just fish, fishcakes, sausage, chips plus peas, curry and gravy. That's it. I clicked on this thinking "why are you asking such a simple question as surely it's not that hard to choose between sausage and fish". I feel there's a whole other world of chippies that I've been missing out on...

Ifailed · 20/03/2021 10:23

I've just checked, if we still a family of four, fish & chips each would cost £38 where I live in Kent. It would be a very rare treat.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/03/2021 10:28

It would be about £24 here, but it wouldn't because the portions are enormous and in reality if feeding 4 adults, even if they had a whole fish each you'd probably only get 2 portions of chips or else you'd have a lot of waste.

Rizzoli123 · 20/03/2021 10:37

I loved pinapple fritters. Chinese ones are sweet. Can't beat one from a chippy

OhWhyNot · 20/03/2021 10:44

I think a trip around the UK and Ireland to sample different regions chippies is needed

Would make a good tv show

We have some kebab/fish & chip shops but haven’t seen a Chinese/fish & chip shop for years I think they moved over to selling Chinese food

OhWhyNot · 20/03/2021 10:47

Blueberryblueberry absolutely agree must be served with a cup of tea

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 20/03/2021 10:49

my favourite used to be pineapple fritters

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 20/03/2021 10:55

in scotland once i had chicken from the chip van, it was revolting, deep fried disgusting

gottenhaitch · 20/03/2021 10:55

I'd sell my soul for a pizza crunch. With gravy and salt and vinegar. 🤤

XiCi · 20/03/2021 11:06

Also grew up in Liverpool where most chippies are Chinese so great Chinese food along with proper chippy chips, pies, fish, fishcakes, chop suey rolls etc. I was aghast at how shit chippys were when I moved to London.
OP from Chinese chippy my (very fussy) dd will have chicken fried rice, chicken chow mean, crispy duck pancakes prawn toast or chicken nuggets (obvs not all at same time Smile)

Hm2020 · 20/03/2021 11:18

Ds will have either half a piece of battered fish and chips or fish bites and chips if they do them one of the only takeaways he’ll eat actually.

Eileen101 · 20/03/2021 11:19

Oh my word, I want a chippy lunch now...

I'm stunned by some of the choices available in people's chippy Shock

I wish ours did pineapple fritters Sad

My DS would have fish fingers cooked at home with some of the chips from my mini fish and chips. Also more often than not, I quickly make some potato wedges to appease my mum guilt. He's only 3 so doesn't know any different... I'm sure it'll change in time and I won't get away with that 😂
He wouldn't eat anything from the Chinese and tbh I don't think we've had one in his lifetime. Used to make stir fries before we had DD who is allergic to soy and he would never eat it so not a risk I'll take while he's eating with us.
I love the Chinese lunch place by my work building though Grin

Rizzoli123 · 20/03/2021 11:23

@Inthevirtualwaitingroom

my favourite used to be pineapple fritters
😁
Chemenger · 20/03/2021 11:40

When I moved from Scotland to Cheshire I was shocked that my nearest chippy a) only did fish and b) was open every lunch time but only two evenings a week. I knew there would be no proper sauce outside Edinburgh.
Back in Edinburgh now both my local chippies are Italian run and have a full range of chippy options including various battered vegetables, and also pasta, pizza and kebabs. With chippy sauce. Civilisation.

ShipOfTheseus · 20/03/2021 11:46

Mine only does fish. I always thought that was normal - a fish and chip shop. But it seems “a chippy” means something very different to people. I wouldn’t call the kebab shop near me that does chips a chippy.

XiCi · 20/03/2021 12:30

No because a kebab shop only does fries. Chippys of whatever incarnation have to have big fat proper chippy chips
