I fancy Chinese tonight and dp will have fish and chips.
Kids will only pick at chips and might push to a sausage, really trying to encourage them to broaden their horizons any ideas? What’s your kids chippy order?

When I was a kid my parents always waited til I was in bed to get a Chinese! From the chippy I’d usually get quarter chicken and chips (I grew up in the southeast and our chippy usually had cod, haddock, fish cakes, saveloy (battered or plain), chicken, or maybe pasties). I still don’t like battered fish, and my usual order these days is fish cake, chips, and curry sauce. I found some of the menu pretty strange when I first moved to Scotland though!

QueenPaw · 19/03/2021 15:06

This was my last one Grin
Battered sausage, chips, scraps and gravy
£3.50

Sausage and chips. Actually can’t remember the last time we had fish and chips. Might have it now!

Whatwouldnanado · 19/03/2021 15:36

Cod, chips, mushy peas and curry sauce. Our local does gorgeous chicken chunks of chicken breast with sweet chili too.

Defiantly41 · 19/03/2021 15:37

@QueenPaw wow. Portion of chips here is £3.30!

RubyFakeLips · 19/03/2021 15:38

Cod or Haddock with chips and always a wally!

Until this thread don't think I've ever realised you can get anything other than fish and chips from the chippy. Maybe sausages and saveloys but I've never eaten pork.

At the Chinese they love most things, mainly fried rice with pineapple and cashews, mushroom chow mein, singapore noodles and duck pancakes. Sometimes salt and pepper chicken but not if theres too much chilli.

jessstan2 · 19/03/2021 15:40

Fish cake or chicken portion. Do they not like fish, eg one cod between two of them? You might find they like picking at your Chinese.

If they like eggs you could just buy chips for them and cook a couple of eggs, would only take a minute. Most children like egg and chips - I love it (funnily enough my offspring never liked eggs, still doesn't).

I am fancying chips now.

OhWhyNot · 19/03/2021 15:40

£3.30 for chips Shock

Is your postcode W1

I was shocked that our fantastic award winning fish and chip shop chafed £2.20 for chips

Mini fish supper with just 1 fish is £5.75

wheresmyhairytoe · 19/03/2021 15:45

DC would have cheesy chips and beans from the chippy.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/03/2021 15:46

I have read through but not sure if I have missed it, Please someone tell me what a King Rib is?

RubyFakeLips · 19/03/2021 15:48

@dementedpixie sorry London slang (I guess?) a wally is a big gherkin, the ones they have in the jars on the counter.

Slice them thinly and scatter over the fish and chips.

RevolvingPivot · 19/03/2021 15:48

Just ordered some actually.

Dd8 wanted two large unbattared sausages and gravy - will only eat chips as thing as McDonald's

Dd10 wanted just chips and curry sauce

I like fish and chips as I was given what my parents had.

dementedpixie · 19/03/2021 15:48

It's made of seasoned pork (i get the bbq one) and shaped into a long rectangle. It is battered and deep fried. There is a picture in the thread too

sanfranfibber · 19/03/2021 15:49

I'm not a healthy eater by any stretch (and now want both chinese and a chippy tea) but is there much point in 'broadening their horizons' to chips and battered sausage etc? Surely better for them to have something from home than treat food they don't want?
