Kids TV series of the 90s.....anyone want to join me in reminiscing?

Someone on another thread has just mentioned “The Biz” which was from memory one of CBBC’s 5pm weekly series from back in the 90s. It’s got me thinking about all the other great stuff from that era (I was junior / secondary school age during the 90s) and can remember the following;

Watt on Earth (about an alien man who lives in a boys shed?!!)
The Queens Nose (and I had a major girl crush on the ginger girl, I just thought she was so beautiful and sassy)
5 children and It (what was that sand creature called?!! And I remember time travel being involved)
The Borrowers (Sunday tea time, my parents tried to get me into the books and failed)
Dark Season (a Russell T Davies one and quite dark / scary)
No Sweat (boy band)

Anyone else want a trip down memory lane? That’s all I can think of for now!

@Rachde @AradiaGC I think that's it yes!! I would never have remember that name - it is not familiar but the main character name is and it is definitely what happened in the show.

Thank you!

I've remembered I also liked Record Breakers and The O zone (music show?!)

SingToTheSky · 24/02/2021 00:23

@AradiaGC was that game show Finders Keepers? Where it was all a mess?

I’ve got lost scrolling through now but THANK YOU for the link to castle of adventure, today has been crap and the thought of being able to curl up with some pure nostalgia is just brilliant.

I know what you mean about the VHS, it took me a long time to part with mine.

Someone asked about famous five DVDs - I got the 70s ones on eBay but I think they’re cheaper now on Amazon. The 90s series I had to get a Dutch version. De vijf. But again I think it’s cheaper now

SingToTheSky · 24/02/2021 00:25

It is still English audio BTW 😂

I loved point horror books too. It felt like a big step up from goosebumps :o

RAOK · 24/02/2021 00:28

I loved The Queen’s Nose and The Borrowers.

WorryingMum2029 · 24/02/2021 00:30

Has anyone mentioned Zap? Loved it

SingToTheSky · 24/02/2021 00:55

Oh yes! Was that the comic book type one?
And hubbub with les bubb, I didn’t enjoy it but I could do a cracking impression of his horn noise 😆

Also it wasn’t technically a kids show but I loved small talk, the game show presented by Ronnie Corbett where adults had to guess what adorable little kids would answer to particular questions.

SingToTheSky · 24/02/2021 00:56

I also liked something called glad rags which was Australian I think. About a girl who solved mysteries and her parents owned a fancy dress shop or something

Tommyegansgirl · 24/02/2021 01:04

Worst witch, Knightmare, dungeons and dragons, woof, super ted and banana man, heartbreak high

DustyOwl · 24/02/2021 01:32

Maid Marian and Her Merry Men, loved it then and now (DH bought me the box set). So cleverly written. I think the BBC are missing a trick by not re running them. My two both love them now.

I am another from a "strictly BBC" family. However, I was allowed to watch (and loved) Byker Grove/Grange Hill but not neighbours?!?

MNIS · 24/02/2021 01:35

CCB?
It was about an antique shop with mysterious things happening, a big grandfather clock - used to scare me but loved it.

MNIS · 24/02/2021 01:37

Geordie Racer at infant school.

Einszwei · 24/02/2021 01:53

Just realised that woman in See How They run is a young Yasmeen from Corrie!

Youngatheart00 · 24/02/2021 07:48

Brilliant to wake and have my morning coffee reading through these suggestions that have come through overnight!

Certainly do remember Small Talk, it was lovely.

That Saturday teatime slot in general was very family friendly (I’m choosing to ignore rolf’s cartoon time and jim’ll fix it which make me feel quite ill for obvious reasons). Noels House Party, the Generation Game, in the days when the whole family would sit and watch together. I remember sometimes my dad would go and get a (family) video out at Blockbuster and I’d be indignant that we could only put it on AFTER noels house party! I suppose Ant and Dec’s Saturday night takeaway is the closest comparison now

I loved Gruey. An opinion which may not have been shared by many as I just looked it up and it only lasted a year and didn't even nudge into the 90s at all (ended 89).

I have a feeling that a lot of my found memories will be TV from the 80s. I do recognise a lot of these but I think so I watch as an teenager "ironically" with enjoyment

MichelleScarn · 24/02/2021 08:10

@BertieBotts

And what was the one where there was a teenage girl who I think lived in a B&B or something and she used to randomly just explain/narrate things to camera? I used to pretend to be her all the time Blush
I know what you mean bertie and l can picture the actress in my head, I initially thought was the actress from Queens Nose, but its not! Can anyone else remember this?!
MichelleScarn · 24/02/2021 08:16

On my search for it l did come across this quiz which has reminded me of many more!

Does anyone remember the show with the two dog puppets? One was a poodle with false eyelashes and the other looked like a basset hound in think. He drew cartoons and I'm sure he used to build various contraptions and visit different places?

merryhollybright · 24/02/2021 08:22

@BertieBotts @MichelleScarn was that the Wild House?

BertieBotts · 24/02/2021 08:23

Yes she was very similar, long blonde hair and the same kind of drama school tone :o

Shinealightonus · 24/02/2021 08:25

Does anyone remember 'Going around the twist?'

Shinealightonus · 24/02/2021 08:26

"When strange things happen, are you going round the twist?" Singing it to myself, its the only bit of the theme tune I can remember! Grin

PivotPivotPivottt · 24/02/2021 08:28

Tots TV
Rosie and Jim
Singing Kettle
Zzzap
Wizadora
Alphabet Castle
Rugrats

Does anyone remember 'Going around the twist?'
Yes - Round the Twist..

It was really popular wasn't it. It must have been as its been mentioned on this thread multiple times. I still want to live in a lighthouse because of it

Advice4worriedMum · 24/02/2021 08:36

I used to LOVE the wild house!

One of the sisters you used to do that random narrating to the camera thing and she used to be really cool and Chuck her backpack into her room 😂
