Someone on another thread has just mentioned “The Biz” which was from memory one of CBBC’s 5pm weekly series from back in the 90s. It’s got me thinking about all the other great stuff from that era (I was junior / secondary school age during the 90s) and can remember the following;

Watt on Earth (about an alien man who lives in a boys shed?!!)
The Queens Nose (and I had a major girl crush on the ginger girl, I just thought she was so beautiful and sassy)
5 children and It (what was that sand creature called?!! And I remember time travel being involved)
The Borrowers (Sunday tea time, my parents tried to get me into the books and failed)
Dark Season (a Russell T Davies one and quite dark / scary)
No Sweat (boy band)

Anyone else want a trip down memory lane? That’s all I can think of for now!

For those only allowed to watch BBC telly, I raise you my friend, who was never allowed to watch Channel 4. At all. Not just kids programmes, but anything aired by C4. She's nearly 40 now. Her parents are still friendly with mine and my mum texted her mum the other week with a recommendation to watch the Pottery Throwdown - friends mum texted back "that's on C4, we don't watch C4, it's not our sort of thing".

Funnily enough, they watch C5 so it's not the sight irreverence they dislike (and they are fairly good company on holiday).

Have you ever... ever felt like this?
When strange things happen,
are you going round the twist?

Also liked that show and clearly the theme tune stuck!

Just before the BBC announced a remake I bought the DVDs for the ITV worst witch which was end of the 90s. For some odd reason they're only available from Germany. They cost a small fortune though and even more now due to import taxes.

The remake just isn't as good. Even when I read the books I think of Kate Duchene as Hardbroom!

Loved it!!! Going to make DD watch it with me tomorrow! And The Worst Witch (again)

I was going to say inspector gadget & dangermouse but a quick google tells me they were 80’s.

Then I thought about Ghost Hunter & that was 2000 so I must’ve watched that when my kids were teens 😂

I never saw season four of ITV worst witch until I bought the DVDs, it's not set in the school but at college and I didn't enjoy it as much. It's shorter and two of the episodes have the wrong English track as well (all the stock does, the company replied to people who complained saying they weren't intended for English market so they wouldn't recall and fix the issue). Unfortunately the two with the wrong tracks are important ones. They were on YouTube with the right track but got deleted.

I really loved a cartoon called Pole Position but on googling I can see it was early 80s!
Also loved Knightmare, Dogtanian, Round the Twist and Round the world in 80 days.
Press gang was great too and children’s ward
I also remember the various dramas for slightly older kids, and one had Kate Bush song Running up that Hill as the theme tune. It was great!!

@Unikko

Loved CITV as a child -

Truckers
Zap!
The Dreamstone

Anyone remember ‘Oasis’ a drama about some children running some kind of city farm?

You have no idea how long I have been trying to think of the name of the series about ‘the gem’. The Dreamstone - thank you!
Ormally · 24/02/2021 20:44

What? There is a Maid Marian box set you say?
(I did buy the entire Willy Fogg one, it's great. But long.)
The Sand creature in 5 Children and It was the Psammead - a family member worked on that show (not acting).

Does anyone remember an Australian one called Pugwall about a band? It was always shown in the summer holidays - me and my friends were obsessed!

MumUndone · 24/02/2021 21:12

Rocko's Modern Life
Pinky and The Brain
Daria
Ahh Real Monsters
Heartbreak High

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 24/02/2021 21:35

Does anyone remember Tales From The Poop Deck? It was on C4 around 1992.

DrCoconut · 24/02/2021 22:00

Cattenberg, see how they run was brilliant wasn't it. The threat referred to as the gorgon. 80's TV was way weirder though.

zukiecat · 25/02/2021 11:05

Just thought of two more my DC loved,

Raven
Jeopardy

fluffyegg · 25/02/2021 11:16

Does anyone remember at kids tv program in the 90s and the kids went around a old house solving puzzles and then at the end it was a race for them to run back to a double decker bus without getting caught ???

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/02/2021 11:57

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 25/02/2021 12:10

Hubbub, the spooks of bottle bay, bug alert!, see it saw it, Aquila, Havacazoo, P.B. Bear. The Riddlers were fab as was the demon headmaster and the Queen's nose was my fave... I wanted to be Uncle Ginger Grin
I was not allowed to watch certain things like Byker Grove or any soaps. I wasn't allowed to watch anything 'violent' or 'not nice' like Biker mice from Mars.

JohnMcCainsDeathStare · 25/02/2021 12:21

I remember Round the Bend with Doc Croc, Lucietti Brushetti and Jemima Wellington-Green

Children's Ward - Not bad at all, an early attempt to bring out issues such as anorexia and later on AIDS in a child-friendly context.

So glad other people have said Cities of Gold - there was one other person at school who'd heard of it.

3CCC · 25/02/2021 13:22

Born early 90s so some of things are a bit younger than those mentioned
Quasar - boys find spaceship in a garage
Live & Kicking
Byker Grove
The show with a magic pen doing letters
Wild Thronberrys
Rugrats
Brum
Bernards Watch

JaneAustensbonnet · 11/02/2026 12:26

Anyone remember the BBC adaptation of Elidor (the Alan Garner book)? That was fab but utterly terrifying
