Kids TV series of the 90s.....anyone want to join me in reminiscing?

Someone on another thread has just mentioned “The Biz” which was from memory one of CBBC’s 5pm weekly series from back in the 90s. It’s got me thinking about all the other great stuff from that era (I was junior / secondary school age during the 90s) and can remember the following;

Watt on Earth (about an alien man who lives in a boys shed?!!)
The Queens Nose (and I had a major girl crush on the ginger girl, I just thought she was so beautiful and sassy)
5 children and It (what was that sand creature called?!! And I remember time travel being involved)
The Borrowers (Sunday tea time, my parents tried to get me into the books and failed)
Dark Season (a Russell T Davies one and quite dark / scary)
No Sweat (boy band)

Anyone else want a trip down memory lane? That’s all I can think of for now!

@NoraLuka

Not tv programmes but did anyone else see these slightly odd programmes at school, there was Through the dragon’s eye and one with a boy who had a pigeon?
Geordie racer ! Badgers girl, dark towers etc
childcareIssue · 23/02/2021 22:04

@Dontbugmemalone

Ah yes Wishbone, I think I watched it on channel 5 when that was added to the main channels?

Just reminded myself about Arthur, Recess, Hey Arnold and Rugrats.

I loved the theme tune to Arthur 🤣
Youngatheart00 · 23/02/2021 22:05

@NoraLuka yes I think they were called “look and read” and were vaguely educational. Some of them were quite old - 70s/80s? I remember they were on during school hours and we watched a few episodes in class.

Recall through the dragons eye and geordie racer

🐦 flying free flying high ...something something across the sky, GEORDIE RACER GEORDIE RACER!!!🐦

LaTomatina · 23/02/2021 22:06

Party of 5 (with a very young Neve Campbell)
My So Called Life (I adored that...)
Goggle Eyes (very young Honeysuckle Weeks)
I was obsessed with Knightmare too
Oh, and Buffy, of course...

IsSpringSprangedYet · 23/02/2021 22:07

I love this!

Wizardora, Zapp, Round the Twist (my kids loved this recently), Fun House, Live and Kicking on a saturday (081 811 8181!), Sooty, Rosie and Jim, The Riddlers, Demon Headmaster, Grange Hill, Byker Grove, Blue Peter.....also Sabrina, Clarissa, Saved by the Bell....

I remember one where a blindfolded team mate was in a big viking helmet and his team mates had to guide him room to room to pick up things and escape goblin things.....I'll google in a sec, but I think it was called Quest? And I remember T-Shirt and the witch with the tea leaves. I'll have to google what it's called.

I sometimes feel a little sad that there is constant entertainment for the kids these days. We used to watch the broom cupboard or citv after school, then go and play. My kids would happily just watch other kids play minecraft/fortnite on youtube all day if they could....Hmm

Littleredbrickmammy · 23/02/2021 22:08

Channel 4 - My 2 Dads, Blossom and My So Called Life!

Dontbugmemalone · 23/02/2021 22:08

@childcareIssue it is still running on BBC now, series 22 I think. I may enjoy watching it more than my DC Smile

IsSpringSprangedYet · 23/02/2021 22:09

And yes to Arthur, Hey Arnold and Recess! Grin

TheresAnEyeInMeSoup · 23/02/2021 22:10

That's brutal @childcareissue. GH tackled so many things, its was great to see them played out.

The Biz was ace, wasnt it a young paul Nicholls in that?

I liked Rosie and Jim as a kid. Bloody hated Tots TV and Wizadora though

fpurplea · 23/02/2021 22:10

Dark Season was awesome... and starred a very young Kate Winslet! Whole thing's up in parts on YouTube, literally watched it again just before Christmas!

The Girl From Tomorrow is available on Amazon Prime... time travel between the year 3000 to 1990, then to 2500 in the second series, Tomorrow's End. We all ran around the playground with our alice bands round our foreheads pretending they were transducers. Theme music was great!

Was MASSIVELY into the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles, the Animals of Farthing Wood and the X-Men. And the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.

Through The Dragon's Eye was the best schools programming ever.

Watt On Earth, oh my word I'd forgotten about that.. with the backwards ears!

Around The World In 80 Days with Willy Fogg.

The Raccoons had the best credits music ever.

Halfway Across The Galaxy and Turn Left. The book was one of my favourites, the TV series introduced me to jelly beans.

No joke, I'm a nostalgia junkie. I could go on forever. I imagine I'll be returning to this thread repeatedly!

Oh, and not exactly a kids show, but does anyone remember Bugs? Late 90s prime time tech based adventure/crime type show. I actually caved and bought the DVD box set last year, and oh my word we're living in the future!

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 22:11

I liked a game show called Jungle Run. My mum’s friend worked on the costumes so I was given my own like the contestants had. God I loved that t-shirt.

She also did the costumes in the Rottentrolls, and once brought the child actress from it, Holly Grainger, to an outdoor concert during filming, where she met me and my parents and my friend. We spent the evening playing improv games. She’s done quite a lot of acting since, so that is my claim to fame :o

I LOVED woof! And read the book to my DCs a few years back :)

I loved the demon headmaster and also had a major crush on a boy in Grange Hill, must have been the mid 90s, I think he was Sam Bardens or something like that.

Youngatheart00 · 23/02/2021 22:11

@IsSpringSprangedYet was the one with the weird helmet Knightmare?

Also remember Gamesmaster and the ITV equivalent (must have slipped through the net) Bad Influence

I loved my Nintendo and sega!

Whaaaatttttttt?????

Off to google

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 23/02/2021 22:12

Home farm twins - NO ONE REMEMBERS IT.

It was honestly the best thing ever. They moved to a farm and found Speckle the dog.

Famous Five which ironically I think was channel 5!

childcareIssue · 23/02/2021 22:12

I loved the music for the lost cities of gold too

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 22:13

I really enjoyed Clarissa explains it all. And Sabrina! DD1 got really into the latter a couple of years ago so we have the entire lot on DVD. It got a bit weird towards the end, I definitely preferred the earlier seasons.

Nohomemadecandles · 23/02/2021 22:13

@IsSpringSprangedYet Knightmare!

merryhollybright · 23/02/2021 22:13

@intheenddoesitreallymatter I used to watch home farm twins!

Yes she thought it was ‘a bad influence’ and she didn’t like that storyline at all You can imagine her horror when I did in fact become pregnant as a teenager 🤦‍♀️🤣
BertieBotts · 23/02/2021 22:15

The witness protection one was called See How They Run. It was the dad that had got mixed up in something criminal and they all had to go into hiding because he was giving evidence. It was quite scary in parts but so interesting. I remember being really upset by the episode where they accidentally discover their old house has been torched, I think because they go past it on a bus or maybe they wanted to sneak back and get some things they had forgotten, or something like that.

I got the book afterwards and read it loads of times.

Blended family one - was that Microsoap? It was a bit weird but someone I know was in it which is why I remember it.

I loved these ones when I was younger - all the same kind of vibe, I think it might have been the same writer?

Woof
The Queen's Nose
Aquila (this is on youtube, and hilarious)
Bernard's Watch

SingToTheSky · 23/02/2021 22:15

I have all the famous five DVDs too 😳 I was obsessed with the books and when the TV series was made I was so happy. I have the 70s series too. Comfort viewing!

There was also a version of the Castle of Adventure, if not others. Not the New Zealand ones (which, yes, I also have on DVD...) but a British one. Never did find it, I borrowed it from the library on video at the time.

ItsLoisSangersFault · 23/02/2021 22:16

Best programme ever....

My So Called Life
