Time for a new game of Mornington Crescent

It's time to begin a new game and I better not make the mistake of playing the closed stations rule in zone 1 again, which led to the win by @WalkingInTheAir13. To have a winner after only three and a half months is quite rare this century.

So I shall begin outside zone 1 for once, starting at Tooting Broadway, the first game I have ever joined to start south of the river.

Well, clearly that was controversial opener. Easily rebuffed with a shuffle to Cockfosters.

peak2021 · 08/03/2021 11:53

Rail replacement bus takes us to Finchley Central.

Along to Knightsbridge

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/03/2021 13:42

Settling in to watch as usual!

Make sure to keep an eye on Peak2021, her performance in the sub regional plays off last autumn was superb. Nabbed herself the 'most inventive escape from Nidd' trophy. I hear she keeps it in the downstairs loo.

peak2021 · 11/03/2021 18:15

Closed stations rule takes me to Down Street. A good place to hide the trophy.

Hmm. Tricky.

It's a Thursday, in March. On an odd year... This limits my moves... Hmmm

Hmm.... oh no. I see.

Victoria.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 11/03/2021 19:37

Victoria?

Imaginative. I think I’m going to respond with West Ruislip. A little risky, I know, but worth a try.

peak2021 · 11/03/2021 20:01

The ghost train rule (no not the fairground, the non-advertised train one) takes us to Ealing Broadway.

The king Louis Gambit... Farringdon

FaceyRomford · 11/03/2021 22:12

Playing the "East-West" rule, I'll say Edgware Road (and because that's two separate stations, I'll be claiming double points, natch).

MrsToddsShortcut · 11/03/2021 22:45

Intriguing. I'm calling the Gulbenkian Declined rule, which naturally takes us to Gants Hill.

00100001 · 11/03/2021 23:23

Fairly sure the Gulbenkian Declined can't be played when the Moon is in the waning crescent? Wasn't there an uproar in the semi's at the '92 playoffs and it almost came to blows when Geoffrey Hevers tried this very same move?

00100001 · 11/03/2021 23:24

Anyway. Giving you the benefit of the doubt. ...Reverse Lateral to Mordern

Didn’t that also have something to do with it being a leap year though?

You’re brave to play a Reverse Lateral so early in the game. I’m going to play it safe with a diagonal slip to Charing Cross.

jendifer · 12/03/2021 07:19

I’m still in bed so thankfully can play Paddington following the 1994 controversy I’ll make sure I stay here till someone plays the next move.

EggyPegg · 12/03/2021 07:23

Also settling in to watch.

peak2021 · 12/03/2021 07:29

The Bakerloo line is such a helpful one when it comes to playing the game of games. So a short move to Warwick Avenue seems a good idea, and the local cafe I hope is open for a takeaway bacon sandwich and coffee.

jendifer · 12/03/2021 07:40

It’s straight on down to Maida Vale which gives us a Continuous Three if I’m not mistaken.

sashh · 12/03/2021 07:48

I feel the urge for a Jubilee shuffle to Dollis Hill

jendifer · 12/03/2021 21:13

I think I can then call Bank if I’m not mistaken?

00100001 · 12/03/2021 21:25

You are correct, excellent move!

But not as good as this one... Sloane Square BOOM!

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 12/03/2021 21:32

Might be taking a risk here but I think it's ok to pass straight to Hammersmith if the 1867 Convention of Fair Play is upheld. Although there may be some regulation that this is only applicable in a leap year. Apologies, it's been a long time since I last played and I'm a little tired this evening

jendifer · 12/03/2021 22:47

The 1867 COFP has to be used during a month with an R in so no problems there.

I am forced to block a station though and instead move to Covent Garden I’m sorry to have to do that on the back of some excellent game play. I thought we were on to a winner with some of the moves I’ve seen here.

FairlyOddmother · 12/03/2021 23:22

Some masterful gameplay in the opening skirmishes of this game...hmmm.. bringing it back to a rather traditional Oval
