Time for a new game of Mornington Crescent

It's time to begin a new game and I better not make the mistake of playing the closed stations rule in zone 1 again, which led to the win by @WalkingInTheAir13. To have a winner after only three and a half months is quite rare this century.

So I shall begin outside zone 1 for once, starting at Tooting Broadway, the first game I have ever joined to start south of the river.

@EmpressWitchDoesntBurn congratulations.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 18/03/2021 21:51

Thank you!

Binary, I’m astonished that you missed the recent controversy over that very paragraph. Wallington pointed out that when the player in question had already deployed their joker, the Whipple Reverse Rules would obviously go into reverse, and so that player would only be able to call Mornington Crescent within the first 3 plays of the day.

So I had to take the risk & get in quickly.

Well... Now I feel silly.

Well done you!!

Care to start a new game?

DinoRhino · 18/03/2021 22:39

Blackhorse Road

WonkyCactus · 18/03/2021 22:43

May I join? I may be a little rusty, but if I remember correctly in this situation I can play a simple alphabet advance which takes us to Caledonian Road.

Thank you for your gracious response!

It’s only a shame we can’t all be sitting round a table at the Lyttelton Arms, in which case I could buy the traditional winner’s round. Maybe next year....

DuckonaBike · 19/03/2021 20:06

I’d be delighted to join a new game; I was disappointed the last one ended so quickly. As it’s Friday night, I’m going to push the boat out with a Stravinsky Slide to Highbury and Islington.

Regents park

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 19/03/2021 20:28

The station with a lift rule being played on only the fourth move, that is a first. So I will move to Edgware Road (Bakerloo) somewhere not played so early since the 1997 June tournament in Hyde Park, the only such game of games to be interrupted by a bird landing on a players's head.

00100001 · 19/03/2021 21:28

It was a penguin, wasn't it? I think it had escaped London Zoo.
Although I might be confusing it with a pelican...

A short shunt over to Barbican

DuckonaBike · 20/03/2021 07:48

I thought it was a duck. I’m saying nothing further.

A pas de bourree (excuse lack of accent) to Aldgate East.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 20/03/2021 08:08

There used to be a city farm near Mudchute. I move there to check if it is still there, though there will not be a penguin I am sure.

JellicleCat · 21/03/2021 01:41

Well, sticking to the animal theme, the nearest tube to London Zoo is of course Regent's Park

MangoSeason · 21/03/2021 01:48

Umm, I hate to be the one to bring in this up, but surely the unintended consequences of animal themes were thrashed out under the Wandsworth protocols?
DuckonaBike · 21/03/2021 09:03

Good point Mango. We don’t want a repeat of what happened at the national final in 1996.

All things considered, let’s move to a more plant based theme with Royal Oak.

lightand · 21/03/2021 09:23

In which case, my most obvious move is to Burnt Oak

00100001 · 21/03/2021 10:26

South Woodford

By means of a the Frank Bray Play. Obviously.

52andblue · 21/03/2021 10:34

I don't understand the rules. Can someone enlighten me?
(or, is that the whole point?)

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 21/03/2021 11:13

@52andblue I am sorry you haven't a clue about how to play the game of games.

I will make the move from South Woodford to Woodford.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 21/03/2021 11:24

Before this goes too far (because none of us want to end up in Nidd) Canada Water.

52andblue, the best way is to watch & pick it up as you go along.

52andblue · 21/03/2021 12:15

Ok. Thanks.

00100001 · 21/03/2021 12:57

Ooh, new person has arrived, this allows the Grantham Budge. Over to Putney Bridge

Like to see you get out of that trap!

52andblue · 21/03/2021 13:19

fHmmm: we have a Tube Map, framed, in the dining room (essential, naturally, as we live in Scotland) It was initially placed in it's ikea style frame incorrectly and therefore first hung upside down. My kids have Autism, so they were most amused & won't let me re-hang, plus they now sing the Jay Gorman song backwards - perfectly & in harmony:)

As you were (watching carefully...)

DuckonaBike · 21/03/2021 17:09

Ooh, tricky one Binary. But I think I can defeat your dastardly plan by making the Sherman Manouevre to Imperial Wharf. Permissible on a Sunday when playing in Greenwich Mean Time, so I’m glad that didn’t come up a week later!

00100001 · 21/03/2021 18:04

Crikey, you guys are good.

A side shunt hop to Harlesden
