Time for a new game of Mornington Crescent

It's time to begin a new game and I better not make the mistake of playing the closed stations rule in zone 1 again, which led to the win by @WalkingInTheAir13. To have a winner after only three and a half months is quite rare this century.

So I shall begin outside zone 1 for once, starting at Tooting Broadway, the first game I have ever joined to start south of the river.

I think it’s okay to use 1990 reserve spring reverse and head over to St James’ Park

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 15/03/2021 20:09

Right. In that case I’m playing my Joker and moving to Amersham. Via *Liverpool Street, for reasons which I know will be obvious.

00100001 · 15/03/2021 20:26

You silly billy. Because it's Monday, and the first play of the day was a station beginning with S, and what with the player using the Reverse Spring Reverse, just before a Joker... I invoke the Duchess of Montmartre Rules, allowing me to bypass the usual constraints beholden to the player that follows a Joker to Amersham, that would usually force ones hand to go to a station beginning with S as well .. and I do declare...Epping

Which puts all of you in a rather difficult place.l,.and me one stop away from victory!

As a newbie, would it be ok to make a bold move to Fairlop ?

jendifer · 15/03/2021 20:43

From Fairlop and with @00100001 being one move away in Epping I do believe i had hoped to play a blinder. Sadly not, as it’s only Monday. So I will be stuck in Nidd.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 15/03/2021 20:45

Blimey.

That certainly is a bold move, but also somewhat inspired. You’ve triggered the Hainault Loop Clause of 1974 which renders the Duchess of Montmartre rules invalid in these circumstances.

Excellent work. I’m going to move the game back onto a safer footing with Blackhorse Road.

00100001 · 15/03/2021 21:16

curses and drat and bother... Croxley

jendifer · 15/03/2021 22:14

Well, I didn’t see that coming.

Kensal Green

JellicleCat · 16/03/2021 00:02

And that was a bold move, especially on a Monday. I'm going to play safe though with Latimer Road.

Geppili · 16/03/2021 02:21

Gunnersbury!

WantChewbaccaForGood · 16/03/2021 07:10

Hmmm Gunnersbury. Tricky - I'll play it safe and say "Ealing Broadway".

00100001 · 16/03/2021 08:01

Southgate

DuckonaBike · 16/03/2021 11:21

Wow you people are on fire!

I’m going to make use of the Plumtree Exemption and move to Walthamstow Central

jendifer · 17/03/2021 08:39

Extension of the Plumtree Exemption, Im heading to Covent Garden

windymillertheecowarrior · 17/03/2021 20:33

The shortest move possible unless you invoke the bus replacement rule now follows, to Leicester Square.

00100001 · 17/03/2021 20:41

Easily enough to get around that. A side shuffle to Heathrow Terminal 5

Mind you don't get caught in a Cholmondley Loop now.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 17/03/2021 21:57

Mind you don't get caught in a Cholmondley Loop now.

Oh yes, good point, thanks!

Let’s step things up a bit. Piccadilly Circus.

00100001 · 18/03/2021 13:00

A Horley Hop to Green Park.

windymillertheecowarrior · 18/03/2021 14:46

The Jubilee line comes to my rescue here and it is off to Neasden.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 18/03/2021 17:44

Hmm, ok.... we’ve had Croxley, Bromley & Finchley twice, I avoided getting trapped in a Cholmondley Loop by going to Piccadilly and we’re currently at Neasden which doesn’t contain an l or a y so....

MORNINGTON CRESCENT.

DuckonaBike · 18/03/2021 19:06

Congratulations Empress!

That was a lot faster moving than the previous game.

00100001 · 18/03/2021 19:27

...umm. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But if you refer to chapter 13, section 3, paragraph 4 in the most recent addendum to the Spring '21 rule book. It clearly states that having played Covent Garden as the first move the day prior to a an extension to the Plumtree exemption, then Mornington Crescent can't be called, on the 3rd play of the day.... Because the Whipple Reverse Rules take precedence...

I mean, it's an easy mistake to make... Granted. But if we let this stand, then the game will just not make any sense!

00100001 · 18/03/2021 19:28

However, if the majority agree, we can certainly give @DuckonaBike a well deserved win.

DuckonaBike · 18/03/2021 19:41

I should have known it wouldn’t be so simple.

It was actually Empress who played the winning move, Binary. Would any other players, perhaps with a more encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules than I, like to venture an opinion?

00100001 · 18/03/2021 20:33

of course, my mistake
