Time for a new game of Mornington Crescent

It's time to begin a new game and I better not make the mistake of playing the closed stations rule in zone 1 again, which led to the win by @WalkingInTheAir13. To have a winner after only three and a half months is quite rare this century.

So I shall begin outside zone 1 for once, starting at Tooting Broadway, the first game I have ever joined to start south of the river.

The use of the west London line rule so early in the game has not been used I think for many years. I had not expected that any more than the move to Imperial Wharf. This may turn out to be as surprising as the first game of the 1983 Westminster tournament.

A fairly short move to South Kenton.

DuckonaBike · 22/03/2021 17:08

Wasn’t 1983 the year that a number of players were disqualified for using performance enhancing drugs, Cuthbert? Fortunately a rare occurrence in the game of games.

I’ll take the opportunity to move to Finchley Road & Frognal

lightand · 22/03/2021 17:43

Sudbury Hill ?

00100001 · 22/03/2021 21:24

@lightand Are you asking us, or telling us? come now, do decide, because it will affect my next move...

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 23/03/2021 07:15

Seems that Sudbury Hill was not a move after all. So leaving Finchley Road and Frognal via the London Overground rule takes me to West Hampstead.

I don't recall any disqualifications in the 1983 tournament, even though it was a very quick game. There was the contra-temps in 1982 though.

UnderwaterSymphony · 23/03/2021 12:53

Dipping into the Rules on Dreams, and as I had a dream last night where Middle Child mixed up Bonds (Exam prep books) and James Bond movies whilst in an 11+ interview, I'll be making a move to

Bond Street, in disguise naturally.

DuckonaBike · 23/03/2021 18:32

Interesting move Underwater.

Pimlico

00100001 · 23/03/2021 18:54

I've see you trying to trick me, but to those of us who aren't as green as we look, it's s an easy escape from the Pimlico Ploy. I'll happily cite the 2018 rules change (after the debacle in Florence) and I declare a double move to Latimer Grove (via Marble Arch)

EarthieBear · 23/03/2021 20:42

@00100001 assuming you mean Latimer Road in which case a Road for a Road and we are off to

Goldhawk Road on the Gold (Circle, which isn't a bloody Circle) Line

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 24/03/2021 16:06

I play the invalid move by misspelling rule which takes us back to Pimlico, and from there move to Marble Arch.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 24/03/2021 16:46

I’m going to take advantage of the arch and circle references to complete a geometric trick and land on Leicester Square.

EarthieBear · 24/03/2021 17:21

Let's stick to shapes and add another, of we go, and we end in oval

DuckonaBike · 24/03/2021 17:37

Very interesting! I think I can safely continue the shapes theme with a move to New Cross.

00100001 · 24/03/2021 18:33

Monument

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 25/03/2021 07:06

I think we can move eastwards to Tower Hill and hope the ravens are in a good mood.

00100001 · 25/03/2021 07:45

They are... A Raven's Flight to Becontree.

I'd like to see you get out THAT...

PuddleglumtheMarshWiggle · 25/03/2021 09:44

Being that there is a R in both the day and month today (Thursday and March) I believe I can get away with a counter-clockwise move to

Silver Street

EarthieBear · 25/03/2021 09:47

liverpool street

00100001 · 25/03/2021 10:22

I must say, it's poor form to state your move in lower case... Do you not recall when Thomas "The Storm" Johnson caused conniptions in his opponent, Molly Deeres, when he tried that in the May Tourney? I do say she's still recovering and has to lie down for a good hour a day.

A bi-lateral reverse to Oakwood

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 25/03/2021 11:18

Lower case is so last century.

A move to Cockfosters

DuckonaBike · 25/03/2021 19:12

Highbury & Islington, employing the double named stations rule as used to such handy effect by the same Molly Deeres that Binary mentions, before the unfortunate incident. I do hope she is recovering.

00100001 · 25/03/2021 23:17

Rumour is she that of she ears the word 'lower' she has a brief fit of the vapours. Quite difficult as she's the head of Lower VI, in Lower Road Sixth Form college, Lower Town.

Double Double Station move (Harrington Variant) to King's Cross & St Pancras

againandagainoncemore · 25/03/2021 23:31

Apologies for being late but I wonder whether Knightsbridge could be played at this stage?

I know there was some foul play associated with a double back move in the mid 90's but am unsure whether the ruling was upheld?

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 26/03/2021 05:15

I wouldn’t. The ruling was originally overturned but then upheld on appeal. It was all very messy.

I’m going for West Ruislip, and I’d just like to remind everyone not to be caught out by the Daylight Savings time slip trap this weekend.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 26/03/2021 07:14

West Ruislip at 0515 just avoids the need for the night bus rule to be played, which would have been a first for any game I have joined. The time change trap can be avoided this year because there is no night tube service presently.

I move to Perivale.
