Do not use gorilla glue in your hair

So I saw a tweet this morning from Gorilla Glue saying they never thought that they’d have to say this, but don’t use it in your hair.

I thought it was an odd tweet.

But then I saw the news article about the woman who ran out of hair product so used gorilla glue spray in her hair! Wtf was she thinking. It’s been over a month now and she still can’t get it out her hair.

She’s also suing Gorilla Glue as she says their instructions arent clear. Label says don’t get on skin or eyes but says nothing about hair! 🤷‍♀️😆😒🙄

Anyway, she has a load of tiktok followers now and has crowdfunded a decent amount.

It's a distressing story if you look into it.

NiceTwin · 10/02/2021 20:35

Oh goodness, what was she thinking?!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 10/02/2021 20:36

Oh, I was up late last night watching the videos of this woman! Poor naiive thing... i was wanting to know if she was able to shave it off. I was thinking of her hair trying to carry on growing from the follicles but not being able to come out because of the glue. In my mind, her hair grew inwards instead, into her brain.....Grin

It was a silly thing to do. But that poor woman. It’s awful and she’s in pain.

IAmJackieWeaver · 10/02/2021 20:39

Dear god, who the hell with even half a brain puts superglue in their hair???

itsgettingwierd · 10/02/2021 20:39

We're meant to be reducing packaging.

Not making it so large we can write instructions for the stupid on there.

"Only use for...... don't use for
........................................................................................."

Twats 🤦‍♀️

NiceTwin · 10/02/2021 20:42

Oh no, I've just read the article.
I can't pretend to know about the styling of black women's hair but it does sound like they do use a glue like product, so maybe it wasn't such a leap to use a spray glue.

I feel sorry for her, it is certainly not a reason to mock her Sad

Tomatobear · 10/02/2021 20:45

That video is funny but my God she is silly.

Does nobody take any personal responsibility anymore? When did common sense disappear??!

AgeLikeWine · 10/02/2021 20:49

Putting Gorilla Glue in your hair, and then blaming the manufacturers for the outcome.

The sheer stupidity of some people simply defies belief. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Covidcorvid · 10/02/2021 20:50

She can’t shave it apparently, it’s too solid and her hair is stuck to her scalp. Her hairdresser has cut her ponytail off but the rest of her hair is still glued to her scalp.

She’s going to catch a flight to LA to see a plastic surgeon who reckons he can dissolve the glue so fingers crossed that works.

It’s good advertising for Gorilla Glue I guess.....maybe they’ll help pay for any costs?

Stupid yes but do feel sorry for her. Hope she gets it out without permanent damage

Nicknacky · 10/02/2021 20:51

I think Gorilla Glue will be very, very wary of offering any financial assistance as it might be perceived as some kind of admitting liability.

Absolutely. The stuff she normally uses has the word “glue” in it. But it’s hair glue/hair product. It’s certainly a hard lesson to learn. Her hair was so long before and now she’s had to have the majority hacked off.

I would have thought the hospital would have some kind of solution to soak it off, they must use something for when people superglue themselves?

Cocopogo · 10/02/2021 20:54

I don’t even know what gorilla glue is

HighHeelBoots · 10/02/2021 20:56

A cosmetic surgeon, I think, has offered to sort it for free
My sympathy disappeared when I read she was planning to sue and her age, this was not a young woman

They’ve tried in the hospital and just burnt her scalp!

Gosh, I think I'd better get that can of Expanding Foam out of the first aid cupboard that I had kept in case of a collapsed lung...

CottonSock · 10/02/2021 20:59

I used this stuff for the first time at Christmas. My fingers welded together pretty much instantly. I got it off with acetone eventually but it was pretty scary. I've decided not to use again. The poor lady, I'll look at the article now.

MavisDracula1 · 10/02/2021 21:00

Ooooooooo sweet jesus. I hadn't heard about this until I saw the thread. I initially thought "why can't she shave it off?", but have seen she can't! That is just awful.

I have used Gorilla Glue on wood etc, so knew not to put it on my hair, but yikes, poor woman!

I watched the tiktok of this and have to say, you would really want to be a sandwich short of a picnic to use Gorilla Glue on your hair.
It is because of people like this women that we have warnings on items such as "Warning - contents may be hot" on a cup of tea/coffee or "Warning - contains nuts" on a bag of peanuts or "Warning - do not use in the bath" on an electric hairdryer or a toaster for example.

I may be harsh here but even if the product she was using before had the word 'glue' in the name of it, it was a hairspray, which has a higher adhesive property than other hairspray products but it isn't actually a glue.
This was an actual adhesive product that had no purpose being used in anyone's hair or for any other purpose than the one it was designed for, as a glue.

40 years old???? I thought she was in her twenties or something?

HmmSureJan · 10/02/2021 21:18

I'm sorry but unless she has some kind of additional needs then I don't see why this is a sad, distressing story? Can anyone clarify?
