Do not use gorilla glue in your hair

So I saw a tweet this morning from Gorilla Glue saying they never thought that they’d have to say this, but don’t use it in your hair.

I thought it was an odd tweet.

But then I saw the news article about the woman who ran out of hair product so used gorilla glue spray in her hair! Wtf was she thinking. It’s been over a month now and she still can’t get it out her hair.

She’s also suing Gorilla Glue as she says their instructions arent clear. Label says don’t get on skin or eyes but says nothing about hair! 🤷‍♀️😆😒🙄

Anyway, she has a load of tiktok followers now and has crowdfunded a decent amount.

@LApprentiSorcier

How is that similar?

An images search shows that the 'Gorilla Snot' comes in various shapes and colours of packaging - there are different bottles and tubs. They both picture a gorilla. If you'd never heard of the household glue it's not a huge leap to imagine this might be from the same range - the woman thought it was hair glue, for gluing on a wig, I understand.

But it literally says on the bottle that it bonds wood, metal etc. AND in quite bold letters do not get on skin, eyes or clothing. If she can’t read the packaging it’s entirely her fault as no one in the western speaking world who has even the faintest grasp on the English language and can read would even remotely think that and adhesive is hairspray. It’s in the hardware section of stores and online shops which she also “overlooked” ..

Still thinking she's gorgeous though and looks like she's in her 20s, not 40.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 10:39

Bloody hell! He saved so much of her hair!

Man's a bloody wonder worker!

I don't think she bought it herself - she found it in her sister's house, didn't she?

The point is she thought it was a hair product in the range she uses. She wouldn't have read the label.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 11/02/2021 10:43

I feel for her but I’m sorry - if you are that dumb then what do you expect

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 10:48

No! That's just something people have jumped to. She doesn't use Gorilla Snot she uses Schwarzkopf's Got2B Glued Blasting Freeze Spray, bright yellow packaging, no gorillas!

SHE SAID... she was in a hurry and thought it would be OK! SHE KNEW it wasn't a hair product!

@LizBennet

I’m glad they’ve managed to get it out.

I once put a tiny bit of superglue on my false lashes to make them stick 😑

It was NOT a good idea (I was 20 years younger than this lady though, in my pathetic defence).

Omg, how did that pan out for you? That could have been awful!
queenofarles · 11/02/2021 10:52

If that is her natural hair in the after video it looks great, she shouldn’t be using harsh chemicals or hair glues.

Deathraystare · 11/02/2021 10:53

I am going to use another glue (supposed to glue everything) to put the feet back on a bookcase. Gee I hope I am not stupid enough to glue it to my hair! Most likely I will glue my hands to the floor or the bookcase!

LizBennet · 11/02/2021 10:58

Luckily it didn’t glue my eyes shut 😬 They just wouldn’t budge for about 3 weeks, I took out loads of my lashes trying to remove them and then just had to leave them on, I looked semi surprised most of the time due to how they were sticking in all directions (they actually looked well for the first couple of days).
When they finally came off I had about 6 lashes on each eye, it took months for them to look even a little decent.

🙄🙄🙄 silly bint

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 11:07

Really?

Leakyradiator · 11/02/2021 11:07

She’s a moron, sorry. She’s got five kids. But not enough common sense not to put glue in her hair? What if she put it on the kids hair?? I see an advertising proposal for her very soon..... of all the sperm....

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 11:07

🙄🙄🙄 silly bint
After all the fairly reserved posts... this!
CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 11:08

Bugger, didn't mean to quote that!!!

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 11/02/2021 11:13

@WhoEatsPopTarts

Have you seen the packaging for the hideously named Gorilla Snot? It’s very similar to Gorilla Glue I believe that’s the issue here.
I don't think they look remotely alike - and I don't mean the type I knew of first (the one used by drummers/guitarists in a green tub), I mean the bottles.
AdobeWanKenobi · 11/02/2021 11:13

I glued my thumb once. I'd cut it, figured they used superglue at A&E and I had some, same job.
And it would have worked, but for the stupidity that followed. I'd used a superglue that had an activator, so whilst the first part was fine spraying on the activator was where it all went wrong. That stuff burns.

I do still superglue my own minor cuts, I don't use the activator.

MadameButterface · 11/02/2021 11:13

This was a very very stupid thing to do, and of course she shouldn’t sue, but a lot of the disbelief and mockery is coming from a place of white privilege. Of course putting dangerous solvents on your hair and scalp is shocking to most people BUT many many black women have grown up in a culture that tells them their natural hair is a problem to be solved, and the best way to do this is with harsh chemicals. Hair relaxer contains lye, aka drain cleaner, aka the same stuff that tyler duerden burns recruits’ hands with as a test of endurance in fight club. For many black women, pain and chemical burns are or will have been a normal part of their haircare routine. Chris Rock’s documentary Good Hair is currently available on Amazon prime and does a deep dive into this.

Of course it’s still a huge leap to put glue on your head. But the gulf between ‘gorilla glue’ and ‘normal hair care products’ in terms of the levels of outright dangerous chemicals in them can be much much smaller for black women than for white women.

DangerousMutant · 11/02/2021 11:15

How do you get to 40 being so stupid! Grin

TastyTicklemore · 11/02/2021 11:22

I feel for her. Maybe she isn't very clever but I am not sure being a bit stupid is a crime so great she deserves this outcome.

Lye relaxers do, but Thio ones contain exactly the same chemical used in Veet and some perming solutions.

I did wonder whether her literacy level was fairly low. The US has a terrible record in that and it's not as if we're much better when newspapers have to keep their offerings at primary school level.

DaylightSunlight · 11/02/2021 11:30

Isn't she a teacher?

bellropes · 11/02/2021 11:39

What this woman has done just contributes to perfectly reasonable substances and products having to be restricted or withdrawn from sale to the public. She should have paid more attention in science class and used some common sense. Presumably she wouldn't use Ajax to clean her teeth.

A few years ago, some US college students substituted two fellow students eyelash glue with superglue. That ended badly and the girls were almost blinded.

Beautiful3 · 11/02/2021 11:41

I'm glad that she managed to remove it, in the end. It must have been so painful. To be fair the spray can of gorilla glue really does look like hairspray. Also alot of products for afro hair does contain the word "glue" in it. So I can understand why she did it. Anyway, I'm glad the talented surgeon managed to save her some hair.

Bedforme · 11/02/2021 11:43

I’m sorry for any pain. I’ve done some stupid things in my time (though not with glue)
However it was stupid and my sympathy went as soon as there was talk of a court case.
