Do not use gorilla glue in your hair

Covidcorvid · 10/02/2021 20:32

So I saw a tweet this morning from Gorilla Glue saying they never thought that they’d have to say this, but don’t use it in your hair.

I thought it was an odd tweet.

But then I saw the news article about the woman who ran out of hair product so used gorilla glue spray in her hair! Wtf was she thinking. It’s been over a month now and she still can’t get it out her hair.

She’s also suing Gorilla Glue as she says their instructions arent clear. Label says don’t get on skin or eyes but says nothing about hair! 🤷‍♀️😆😒🙄

Anyway, she has a load of tiktok followers now and has crowdfunded a decent amount.

From what I can figure out, it's all the solvents she's been trying that have been causing her pain, when they (the solvents) reach her skin, they sting like hell.

Feel sorry for her but she could make a lot of money out of her daftness (if she had GSOH about it) if were more shrewd.

Shrewd person wouldn't have done something so daft in first place, methinks. Her vanity wouldn't just wait for her hair to grow out, either.

1990s · 10/02/2021 22:32

But what if it ingrows? Shock

BadLad · 10/02/2021 22:49

@PinkFondantFancy

I would have thought the hospital would have some kind of solution to soak it off, they must use something for when people superglue themselves?
This is completely different from superglue. It's incredibly strong. If a wooden chair breaks, you might use this to glue it back together.

This actually happened a month ago - the woman didn't seek help for a month ffs.

This has gone viral all over the internet. How many people does it take to repeat the same type posts and threads, and say that she's stupid? Over & over again?

She did make a silly mistake but shit happens. I don't understand why it's such a huge topic, been going on for days now

At least she went public as a warning.

Based on huge levels of scorn she's experiencing some felt sorry for her. A go fund me has been started which has raised over $20,000 for her so I guess that's some (good) consolation.

VinterKvinna · 11/02/2021 08:35

@dudsville

It's a distressing story if you look into it.
Whats distressing about it?

I have only seen that someone used glue in their hair

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 11/02/2021 08:41

It’s sad that she felt it necessary to glue her hair down (which apparently is the sad part due to trying to avoid having natural curls), but none of this is gorilla glue‘s fault. At all.

It’s gorilla glue ffs. Sold as a (better)alternative to superglue.

Not hairspray.

Okokokbear · 11/02/2021 08:45

It must hurt so I do feel bad for her. I find it hard to believe she can be this stupid without a cognitive impairment. Just why would you do this?

I also feel suing is just gross. I'm not normally bothered about buisness at all and I'm ver anti capitalist. So what I mean is I'm rarely going to be on their side. But wow, how could you possibly blame the company?

Imagine a world where every product had aist of the things it couldn't be used for. How big would the packaging be?

Like the supermarket only has 2 bags of crisps because the packets are just massive lists saying stuff like, not for use as a building material, makeup stationary or as a laundry detergent.

Just no. Take some responsibility for your fuck up. People will actually have more sympathy.

Are you the thread police? It's the first I'd heard of it despite being on tiktok and twitter. If you don't want to engage with a topic just move on.
AlfonsoTheSensible · 11/02/2021 08:51

@Barracker

Her scalp skin cells will be shedding continually underneath as the skin replaces itself, and fresh hair will be emerging from the follicles, so eventually the whole helmet of glued hair will be detachable and someone should be able to slide nail scissors underneath to free the whole thing.

But crikey, let that be a salutory lesson to anyone else thinking glue is an appropriate product for hair.

It doesn't work that way.

Her hair is basically welded to her scalp. There the hair follicules will be blocked so there is nowhere for them to grow, except inward. Skin cells can't be shed because they are permanently attached to her scalp.

I see that a plastic surgeon in California has offered to remove the product for free but he is planning to use very strong adhesive remover. If it works, great! But I don't hold out a lot of hope.

She can try to sue Gorilla Glue but her case is very weak and will most likely be thrown out.

Ilovebigmacs · 11/02/2021 08:57

I felt sorry for her until I read she was suing the company. From everything I've read she doesn't have a good reason to do it but I could've missed something or it might not have been written anywhere, so I'm open to changing my mind back again.

WhoWants2Know · 11/02/2021 08:58

I don't think it's fair to criticise her for thinking about suing, because that's kind of the way things work in the States. There isn't free health care. If someone is injured or something is damaged it's normal to bring a lawsuit to try to recover some of the cost. That's just how things work.

Even with treatment, it's likely that the woman will have a certain amount of disfigurement. The glue has been on for a month without lifting due to hair growth or skin shedding. If the follicles are damaged, she may be left with a bald mass of scar tissue.

saleorbouy · 11/02/2021 09:04

If I'd made such a brain dead decision i would be trying to keep it quiet not splashing it all over the internet. If she turned up to my place of work CV in hand looking for a job I'd be scared to employ her she obviously has no common sense and would be a Health & Safety litigation nightmare.
Just goes to prove you can't legislate against dumb!

SweetPetrichor · 11/02/2021 09:13

You can't account for the stupidity of people. She's had her 15 minutes of fame and if she was genuinely stupid enough to put glue on her head, then there's little hope for her and her one brain cell. If she did it for her 15 minutes of fame, then karma has come to kick her arse. She looks like a fool either way.

Soubriquet · 11/02/2021 09:19

It is very daft

I mean like a PP said, you can’t go somewhere like Superdrug’s and pick up gorilla glue.

You have to go to a hardware section in a superstore or a specific hardware shop.

I do feel sorry for her but at the same time, I just wonder how on Earth she thinks this is a suitable substitute

borntohula · 11/02/2021 09:23

Oh god, I was upset enough when I got hair removal wax in my hair, though that was accidental still stupid though.

TableFlowerss · 11/02/2021 09:26

I wonder if there is more to this than meets the eye?

Perhaps she has a cognitive deficit and didn’t understand the severity and consequences of using it? If so then this is extremely sad, poor soul.

If not, then there are no words for silliness.....

LApprentiSorcier · 11/02/2021 09:26

Not funny. I was reading about this - apparently the branding is very similar to a genuine hair product.

DaylightSunlight · 11/02/2021 09:26

@DeeCeeCherry Some people are falling over themselves to call her stupid. Fair enough. But I didn't see this many posts calling, for example, 'Elizabeth from Knoxville, Tenessee' (maced Capitol Hill woman) stupid. Atleast, this one's admitted she's wrong but Entitled Elizabeth (surprised?) can't believe she should get a stupid prize for playing a stupid game.

TableFlowerss · 11/02/2021 09:27

It’s an awful way to learn the consequences and I hope someone can help her soon

AlwaysCheddar · 11/02/2021 09:33

No sympathy.

WhoEatsPopTarts · 11/02/2021 09:34

Have you seen the packaging for the hideously named Gorilla Snot? It’s very similar to Gorilla Glue I believe that’s the issue here.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/02/2021 09:37

And here’s me thinking that hairspray to set my make up when I was a teenager was me making bad choices...

LApprentiSorcier · 11/02/2021 09:37

@WhoEatsPopTarts

Yes, exactly. So many people are completely missing this in their haste to call the poor woman an idiot.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 09:37

Went public as a warning?

To who?

NOBODY sprays Gorilla Glue in their hair. The bloody stuff is marketed as having incredible, industrial holding power and versatility. - but nowhere does it say 'personal grooming product'. It's not even new in America, it's ben sold there since the mid 90s!

But hey! She thought it was OK as it was described as multi use and she was in a hurry!

I always thought the price of vanity could be high, but this? This enters unique levels of WTF?!?!?!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 09:40

@LApprentiSorcier

Not funny. I was reading about this - apparently the branding is very similar to a genuine hair product.
But not the one she regularly uses.

And she is 40 years old.

And the packaging isn't all that similar at all. It REALLY isn't!
