Do not use gorilla glue in your hair

So I saw a tweet this morning from Gorilla Glue saying they never thought that they’d have to say this, but don’t use it in your hair.

I thought it was an odd tweet.

But then I saw the news article about the woman who ran out of hair product so used gorilla glue spray in her hair! Wtf was she thinking. It’s been over a month now and she still can’t get it out her hair.

She’s also suing Gorilla Glue as she says their instructions arent clear. Label says don’t get on skin or eyes but says nothing about hair! 🤷‍♀️😆😒🙄

Anyway, she has a load of tiktok followers now and has crowdfunded a decent amount.

If you actually read about what happened there is a bit more to it. Yes she was silly but her hair is probably never going to grow back. It's sad.

How is that similar?

How is that similar?

An images search shows that the 'Gorilla Snot' comes in various shapes and colours of packaging - there are different bottles and tubs. They both picture a gorilla. If you'd never heard of the household glue it's not a huge leap to imagine this might be from the same range - the woman thought it was hair glue, for gluing on a wig, I understand.

I don't quite know what to make of it. It seems like a very silly thing to do, but I guess she's just lucky she didn't get it in her eyes or on her face.

Spudlet · 11/02/2021 09:49

It’s out, according to TMZ. A plastic surgeon in Beverley Hills did it for free for her - it took four hours Shock She actually still has hair though!

I mean, daft as a brush to have done it in the first place but I’m glad for her that it’s out and she has kept some of her hair. Hopefully there won’t be any long term damage.

Totally agree. Or else, she may have thought it was a cheap dupe version. Who hasn't done something a bit silly in pursuit of better hair / skin / whatever? I know I have! She doesn't deserve to be maligned and as a pp already said, they don't have the NHS over there. People often have to sue to cover their extortionate medical bills.

Does that not just say she is going to have it fixed? The ponytail got cut off but the scalp isn't fixed yet, I think.

Hope it does get fixed!

Ilovebigmacs · 11/02/2021 09:53

Is it a spray? I've just looked at the photos and she has tons in her hair from what I can see, how didn't she glue her fingers to her head?

HmmSureJan · 11/02/2021 09:54

She did make a silly mistake but shit happens. I don't understand why it's such a huge topic, been going on for days now

Well she seems to be thriving on the attention, making videos about it and bumping it up so maybe that's why it's still being discussed.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 11/02/2021 09:58

They both picture a gorilla?!?!

One is ALWAYS a comic, cartoon image in bright c olourwars.

The other is orange and brown realistic gorilla.

If that is being excused as easy mistake to make then we are all indeed going to be seeing greatly increased warning signs on packaging - which will have to be larger to fit all possible daft uses on it!

She made a stupid error. It's shit that she is in pain and it will be so difficult to resolve. I'm not maligning her past saying it was a stupid thing to do! But neither product manufacturer is culpable!

I think she may have been saved by the way Gorilla Glue is activated. It needs water. So she would have needed to wait a while for it to set, or she followed the instructions and sprayed it with water!

I use it quite a bit, it doesn't immediately grab and set.

Okokokbear · 11/02/2021 10:01

@WhoEatsPopTarts

Have you seen the packaging for the hideously named Gorilla Snot? It’s very similar to Gorilla Glue I believe that’s the issue here.
It's not similar
Spudlet · 11/02/2021 10:03

@MavisDracula1 No, there’s a video that shows it coming out and another of afterwards on that link.

Nith · 11/02/2021 10:04

It may not specifically tell people that you can't use it on hair, but according to the report it does say "forms a clear, permanent bond that is moisture resistant” which is a bit of a clue.

Googlebrained · 11/02/2021 10:04

Sorry but hope she loses the case. Manufacturers cannot be held responsible for people's stupidity. If someone eats a nail should they be able to sue the manufacturers for not saying it's inedible? People should take personal responsibility.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2021 10:10

I've got ordinary gorilla glue on my fingers before and it does eventually wear off (presumably with normal skin shedding).

There is no way she should win any case though. I have every sympathy for her pain and suffering but it was her own mistake.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/02/2021 10:10

Gorilla Glue. There's a huge clue to its strength in the name.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2021 10:11

Many years ago I noticed that petrol pumps in the US carry a warning that says "do not drink"

DaylightSunlight · 11/02/2021 10:15

The article doesn’t say it's out.

She's still going to go and take it out by the surgeon. What was taken out first was her ponytail by her friend.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/02/2021 10:16

I must say though that despite this lady's absolute stupidity (and it was incredibly stupid) if what other posters are describing, in terms of the damage and scarring this will cause, I feel incredibly sorry for her going forward as that's going to be really tough.

Slightly off topic but ever since I was a kid any kind of superglue has absolutely freaked me out and this dreadful story is literally the stuff of my nightmares Confused

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 11/02/2021 10:18

Read instructions people, read instructions.

HurricaneBitch · 11/02/2021 10:19

Her case will be thrown out, if clearly says Gorilla Glue says glue and that's what it is, if anything the issue is with hair care products saying glue. If she had glued something with a hair care product and that had failed causing injury then she'd have a case, if you see what I mean, although even that would be thrown out.

queenofarles · 11/02/2021 10:20

I just saw after the procedure video , Oh bless her, I’m glad they removed it and still has hair left!

At ER the prescribed acetone Shock, that must have burned her scalp

DaylightSunlight · 11/02/2021 10:30

Just seen the video. Well done Dr Michael Obeng! He did an excellent job. Shocked she still had hair left after this.

What some people go through for "beauty"!

LizBennet · 11/02/2021 10:34

I’m glad they’ve managed to get it out.

I once put a tiny bit of superglue on my false lashes to make them stick 😑

It was NOT a good idea (I was 20 years younger than this lady though, in my pathetic defence).
