Do not use gorilla glue in your hair

So I saw a tweet this morning from Gorilla Glue saying they never thought that they’d have to say this, but don’t use it in your hair.

I thought it was an odd tweet.

But then I saw the news article about the woman who ran out of hair product so used gorilla glue spray in her hair! Wtf was she thinking. It’s been over a month now and she still can’t get it out her hair.

She’s also suing Gorilla Glue as she says their instructions arent clear. Label says don’t get on skin or eyes but says nothing about hair! 🤷‍♀️😆😒🙄

Anyway, she has a load of tiktok followers now and has crowdfunded a decent amount.

Well we've all been getting so fed up and frustrated in lockdown that I sympathise with her. I've been so sick of my hair I've considered just putting it in a ponytail and lopping it off. And I've certainly cut my fringe late at night in half-light! So I can imagine just thinking oh I'll give this a go . . .

StellaAndCrow · 11/02/2021 15:51

Also, I didn't know that you could get spray glue. Did everyone else know that? I know it says on it, but I wouldn't have expected glue in a spray.

YouAintKingDingALing · 11/02/2021 15:58

Spray glue had been available in this country for years. I use it for crafts.

Lots of hair products with "Glue" on bottle, for bonding hairpieces etc.

Dr Obeng sorted out her hair, totally free of charge. Good man. & She still has her hair. I'm glad to hear that🙂

Thank you for the spray glue tip, I do lots of crafts it would be useful for, never come across it.

StellaAndCrow · 11/02/2021 16:29

Oh wow thanks for the video link - amazing job! And he managed to keep so much of her hair!
I can so imagine doing something like this myself in frustration.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2021 16:40

I think the doctor has got his money's worth in publicity! Deservedly so.

StellaAndCrow · 11/02/2021 16:58

Yes, good decision by the surgeon!

Said the same thing. His office deserves to be overflowing with well-paid bookings both for being a kindhearted person (helping free of charge and the way he was attentive and gentle towards her) and being extremely talented.

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Can we stop repeating the wholly made up stuff?

SHE SAID she was in a hurry, had run out of her usual stuff and thought the Gorilla Glue would be fine.

She doesn't use a product with a similar name. She said she knew it was not a hair product.

She made a stupid decision. She fucked up and I bet she was quite scared and angry for a while.

Fortunately it has been fixed.

What she does with the go fund me stuff could include a decent wig, extensions etc. Or a donation to charity. Whatever she chooses.

But we need to take her at her word. She didn't mistake a hair product. She made a stupid decision. Which is why she made the Tiktok.

Why disbelieve her in an attempt to make her look less daft than she has already said she was?

Curious you are always a voice of diplomatic reason Smile
dottiedodah · 11/02/2021 19:22

I feel for this lady .Its all very well calling her stupid and so on ,but not everyone has clear understanding of products and their use.Surely we should try and help her not to feel any worse than she already does! Lets hope she can get some help here!

She didn’t specifically say that she knew it wasn’t a hair product though? I know I’m assuming here but I think it’s more likely that she ran out of the Got2bglued, then used the gorilla glue thinking it was gorilla snot spray without really thinking about it.

I'm sure this won't go as viral as the other news but thought it's only fair to share here since we enjoyed the first bit. Every cloud has a silver lining and all that...

Tessica Brown (Gorilla glue girl) donates part of her Gofund me money to Dr Michael Obeng's charity org. How wonderful! Happy for the both of them and those Dr Obeng is helping. I'm sure he'll get more deserved donations because of this whole incident.

Ah that's a nice end to the story, for everyone Smile.

IheartJKR · 15/02/2021 09:25

So glad this woman was bold enough to ask for help and risk the wrath of social media. A lesser person would’ve suffered in silence and god knows what would’ve happened.

I feel this case also highlights the lack of training and education that staff had in the hospital regarding black women as they really didn’t understand how to help her safely.

The intersection of oppression that black women face when trying to access help and support from multiple services is very real.

Great ending though StarStar

MayYouLiveInInterestingTimes · 15/02/2021 10:47

Please tell me she’s American. Then perhaps we can all reflect on the necessity for health warnings, and the health warnings American and American-style cultures need to carry in respect of human intelligence.

I've just read that she now has an agent so we may be hearing more from her.
WhoWants2Know · 16/02/2021 11:28

Sorry to bring this back, but have you seen that an additional 3 people have gone on to do exactly the same thing since her post? I can understand it happening once by mistake, but to do it having seen what she went through?

She got money, fame and free treatment

Of course idiots we’re gonna come out of the woodwork

TableFlowerss · 16/02/2021 11:40

I seen that this morning. To think that others are possibly trying to replicate it is beyond belief.

It’s like one of those ridiculous crazes that sweep the internet every few months, where they do things that can cause harm. Difference is, these are grown women - not kids....

WhoWants2Know · 16/02/2021 11:41

Why do I go to work instead of gluing shit to myself and then crying about it?

AlwaysLatte · 16/02/2021 11:42

If you're that naive not to think for a second about how it might not be such a good idea, are you really going to read the small print on the tube??

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/02/2021 12:03

She got it removed for free as well on the NHS. Im going to be honest I don't think that's fair certainly not when people can't even get a diagnosis for cancer let alone treatment. She set up a go fund me page through Go Fund me so it's not like she didn't have the money to pay for it.

iklboo · 16/02/2021 12:07

How did she get it done free on the NHS when both she & the surgeon are American. In America?
