Everyone is fawning over it! I watched it last night and thought it was absolutely rubbish, reused the same old exhausted tropes that every disaster movie uses and was really oddly paced.

Seriously though, please can we have a disaster movie where the family aren't estranged and the kid isn't forced to have a medical condition just to advance the plot?!

@RedPaperLantern

He is Scottish tho’?
Big Gerry fae Paisley!
Ylfa · 17/02/2021 14:02

He just sounded like a Scottish person who’d been living in the states for several years and had more or less assimilated - I assumed it was on purpose because of the points made about attitudes to immigrants (in the truck with the bracelet before the fight)

Ylfa · 17/02/2021 14:02

I genuinely thought the whole movie was incredibly deep, must rewatch when I’m not stoned sometime

But he didn't have a Scottish accent for the whole film did he? Perhaps I need to watch again.
KylieKangaroo · 17/02/2021 16:01

I agree it was awful, laughably awful though! The bit with the hammer was the bit that got me Grin

AlrightTreacle · 17/02/2021 16:51

Gerald Butler's accent was a bit "wtf is that meant to be?!"

Very predictable with the son and the insulin, and surprising that he was still alive after 9 months, unless they had a way of producing insulin in the bunker.

Irritating that they didn't think to cover their wristbands.

Depressing because at the end I just thought I'd probably just rather die than hunker down for 9 months and then come out to a wasteland, lockdown has got to me enough as it is!

FindingMeno · 17/02/2021 16:55

It made me feel quite anxious!
After this past year I don't need any more possible events/ disasters to worry about.
Obviously if I had any common sense at all, I could have turned it off though Smile

@Icenii

Watched this last night. Much prefer Melancholia. That's worth a watch.

Do you think the atmosphere would be radioactive as all the nuclear power plants would be destroyed? Would the fires and winds stop that?

I'd have liked to have seen what happened when the asteroid / meteor hit the earth. Imagine of you were on the impact site. What would you see? Sorry. I've give this aot of thought and mapped out my plan of action based on different scenarios. Generally involves wine and not doing very much if an ELA. Zoombies I would try to fight.

I can't find the article currently but you wouldn't see anything - the pressure wave would kill you before the impact happened.

That’s pretty much what I thought. Bit like Gerald himself I.e. so he didn’t have to bother putting on an accent, he could just speak.
Icenii · 17/02/2021 19:22

Question is there an artical that explains what would happen? Fascinating!

BaconAndAvocado · 19/02/2021 17:34

Love a good disaster movie.

Stereotyped characters, cheesy lines and epic CGI.

Greenland has them all!

Sideorderofchips · 19/02/2021 17:47

I love a good disaster movie.... But that won't make my rewatch list

Plonque · 19/02/2021 17:48

What other good disaster movies (or any good action-y type movies) have people watched since Greenland?
I've watched a lot of pish this last week!

BaconAndAvocado · 19/02/2021 18:38

Well if it's push you want, try The Day After Tomorrow and 2021 (I think it's that but it might be 2012!)

Both fall into the So Bad They're Good film category IMO.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2021 18:49

I need a disaster movie for tonight too. Might try Train to Busan which is sort of disaster moveish

NonsensicalHair · 19/02/2021 19:01

Didn't GB tell the aggressive guy in the truck that he was from Scotland? When the guy asked him "where are you from?". Surely I didn't imagine that?
