You’ve tried all of it? Confused

I love Lidl so pleased for them!

Bookaholic73 · 01/02/2021 19:38

Not tried absolutely every item, no.
But decided to give it a try a few months ago, did a big shop from there, and didn’t like any of it apart from the cereal.

OiAlexaShutUp · 01/02/2021 19:41

Do they have home delivery?
Scan as you shop?
Queues that don't look like something from Soviet Russia?

I'm an Iceland and Asda shopper, so in no ways a snob. But Lidl and Aldi are crap IME.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 01/02/2021 19:42

Not a very subtle ad.

I used to prefer Aldi too, but for a variety of reasons (including that it’s easy walking distance...) have shopped more at Lidl recently, and now have to make a special effort to go to Aldi, or else need specific things that Lidl don’t have.

(I do still like Aldi stuff generally, and often get Special Buy things online)

Do you work for them OP? Grin

VVKills27 · 01/02/2021 19:44

Well they do make the loveliest frozen vegetable gyozas of any I’ve tried (which is many). I think they were an Xmas special & I can’t come to terms with no more of those bloody lovely crispy things dipped in soy sauce for a year. The ‘posh’ ones just don’t match up 😤

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/02/2021 19:44

So glad they've won, they deserve it. Our local Lidl's are clean and the staff are great, plus we eat great food.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 01/02/2021 19:45

FWIW, I think MN is a hotbed of Lidl/Aldi fans. Every other week seems to have a ‘what should I buy? thread full of evangelising zealots.

Why do you care where people shop, anyway?

SummerHouse · 01/02/2021 19:45

I think all the supermarkets have pros and cons. Lidl meats and cheeses are excellent and v good value. Special mention for the cheese bakes. But this brings me to one of the cons. Some of their lines are time limited so you fall in love with a product (cheese bake) then it's not there when you go again. First world problem alert.

ChetChet · 01/02/2021 19:45

Team Lidl too.
Some things in Aldi are very good.
But Lidl is far better.

Yogaposer · 01/02/2021 19:47

"Queues that don't look like something from Soviet Russia".....
This had me giggling because it's so true! Grin

Grenlei · 01/02/2021 19:47

I'm a fan of Lidl...I actually prefer it to Aldi. However our local Lidl has yet to be refurb'd so is quite a depressing experience especially since post Covid they've also closed the main entrance.

If only they would do up and expand our store so they have the full range of stock, I'd shop there all the time.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/02/2021 19:47

I don't.

Rightleftupdown · 01/02/2021 19:47

Food is good value but until I can click and collect or they manage the queues safely I won't be going back in a long time

Bvop · 01/02/2021 19:50

I prefer Waitrose but I do go to Lidl every Christmas to get their Stollen and chocolate coins.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 01/02/2021 19:50

Not you, @JiltedJohnsJulie, the OP.

Gubanc · 01/02/2021 19:52

I went off Lidl about 2 years ago. Everything is wrapped in plastic.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 01/02/2021 19:53

I don't have a Lidl near me but I remember they used to sell a gorgeous apple crumble cake - even if everything else was shit (which it isn't) it would still be worth a trip just for that!
I do love Aldi though - who doesn't need random inflatable stuff from the aisle of wonder?

Floralnomad · 01/02/2021 19:54

People are welcome to shop where they like it doesn’t affect me at all , I choose to do online shopping now and pre covid preferred places that offer scan and shop . Just because some of us choose not to shop at Lidl or Aldi doesn’t mean we ‘look down our noses’ at them .

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/02/2021 19:55

I only managed to get one lot of mini stollen this year. Probably a good thing though as DH usually scoffs the lot.

I do like their mince pies though as I'm DF and they're about the only ones I can eat.

Their chocolate coins are great aren't they? Smile
