I dont hate the food. I DESPISE the way the shop is laid out. Same for Aldi.

Posturesorposes · 01/02/2021 20:51

Nope.

Online shopping.

Unless the supermarket offers online shopping absolutely not.

beanys · 01/02/2021 20:52

Team Lidls all the way! Used to be an Aldi devout but got fed up of the rubbish dates on the produce. Been so happy with Lidls the past year. Love the App! Great savings. Got a £10 off my shop voucher to use for next week from it!

I love Lidl, I have a Sainsbury's and a Lidl in walking distance and choose Lidl most of the time now because of their loyalty scheme. Bonus £10 to spend every month plus virtual scratchcards after every shop.

Also can't compete with their bakery items either.

seepingweeping · 01/02/2021 20:55

I'm a 50/50 split between Lidl and Aldi. I do prefer Lidl's meat but Aldi have a much bigger choice.

UnityUnited · 01/02/2021 20:57

Booths is the best. They always have piles of fruit and vegetables that have been picked or dug up that morning.

lboogy · 01/02/2021 20:57

I find the shopping experience claustrophobic at Lidle. It's not a place I love going to but it's very cheap. I wonder if it's cheap because of the lack of selection

DaphneBridgerton · 01/02/2021 20:58

Still never going to shop there Envy (not envy)

Melange99 · 01/02/2021 20:58

Lidl and Aldi are like Primark and New Look to me. I look occasionally and find them depressing. I don't get the love for them. I prefer Waitrose and Sainsbury's.

ZenNudist · 01/02/2021 20:58

Hmmmm its only OK. Much of the veg is poor quality (tasteless carrots , squidgy tomatoes etc). Prefer Aldi household products and toiletries.

I like the bakery. I prefer Aldi supplement with Sainsbury's. I don't rate much of Aldis veg either.

Iamuhtredsonofuhtred · 01/02/2021 20:58

I LOVE lidl. They do sell whole nut butters and organic eggs! If they did online shopping I would only shop there and nowhere else.

ReviewingTheSituation · 01/02/2021 21:01

There's clearly a lot of variance between stores - the veg at our local Lidl is great. Lasts for ages. And their tomatoes (in summer) are better than anywhere else.

They also have excellent Greek yogurt. Not Greek-style yog, but actual Greek yog. And their salmon knocks socks off Waitrose's.

I use it for a lot of staples - baking ingredients, rice/pasta, tinned toms/beans, oils, cereal, snacks, cheese and wine/beer. Better than Aldi IMO.

I’m like a kid at Christmas if I get a chance to shop at Booths.

But on a more bank-account-friendly note, I’m gradually getting used to Aldi. Hated it for quite a while but there’s a newish one quite near to me and I’ve been in a few times. However it’s a bit of a walk and we don’t have a car so I’ve not been able to try out much yet. I like their filled fresh pasta and the nuts are very good value. And the milk chocolate with pretzels... yum.

ButtonMoonLoon · 01/02/2021 21:04

I don’t care about their awards.
What I do care about is the poor hygiene in the warehouse of the branch closest to me- a friend’s son did one shift there and left as it was so appalling.
I’ve tried two branches local to me and their crap use of masks and lack of monitoring of numbers at their stores has put me right off.
The last time I went to the closest one the checkout person coughed into her hand and then reached for my items to start scanning them. When I asked if she would be sanitising her hands and putting on a mask she said ‘I can if you insist on it’.
The manager couldn’t have cared less.

AwkwardSquad · 01/02/2021 21:04

The Lidl in our town is not walking distance so I’m yet to discover it’s delights!

AwkwardSquad · 01/02/2021 21:04

Grrr autocorrect

ButtonMoonLoon · 01/02/2021 21:06

Aldi has been the polar opposite - traffic light system before entry, wide aisles and sanitising stations at the entrance.
It’s become my supermarket of choice this past year

GreenlandTheMovie · 01/02/2021 21:10

The local rural titled aristos all flock to Lidl.

I think it was the time they sold cut price but good quality lunging whips that won them over.

Chloemol · 01/02/2021 21:11

Must admit the fruit and veg at Lidl is the best

Whichname98 · 01/02/2021 21:12

Love Lidl. Quality is great! You won't beat their black bin liners, very strong and thick. Never split !

Whatwouldscullydo · 01/02/2021 21:13

I think I'll still give lidl and their broccofleas a miss thanks. I prefer my veg without the extra protein

evouk · 01/02/2021 21:14

I go to Lidl once a week, not for a big shop but just for certain things. Their freshly baked croissants are another level

ktp100 · 01/02/2021 21:14

Why is it assumed that people who don't like Lidl are 'looking down their nose' at it?

It;s OK to just prefer other supermarkets.

Logmein · 01/02/2021 21:14

They don't deliver so never tried their stuff.
Sainsbury's for me as its the only bloody supermarket that can find my house!
Haven't been to a supermarket in 10+ years so won't be able to try until they deliver.

DreamyDreamer333 · 01/02/2021 21:15

I recently got an organic brocolli at lidl as the didn't have any normal ones and it was crawling. Wouldn't get that at tesco.
