I like lidl prefer aldi bit our local lidl is just so busy, huge queues all the time and never ever enough staff.. Managers who don't know where stuff is, I rarely go now.

mootymoo · 01/02/2021 23:14

Lidl is closer and has a bakery but Aldi carries certain extra things so I go there every now and again

allthetrees · 01/02/2021 23:18

I LOOOVE aldi and Lidl but my nearest are so not buggy friendly. It's always chaos, people blocking isles with trollies and bumping into my buggy. It's just me and my partner so I only tend to do small shops with a basket, I don't enjoy queuing for 20 mins with a baby to 3-4 days worth of food (maybe I'm impatient).

I prefer the Asda experience, the staff are so much more friendly, and the reduced section is a lifesaver. I wish I could have the Asda experience with the Aldi/Lidl prices!!

I go to Aldi for my main shop and then to Lidl for other bits i.e. large bag of tomatoes, pak choi, wet cat food. The Lidl cashiers are such a contrast to those at Aldi. The former are so slow, like sloths. The shop itself is very disorganised and the products are less fresh than Aldi. So I prefer Aldi.

@strawberriesontheNeva

They have food scares frequently (usually salmonella) I wouldn't shop there.
Hmm Citations please?

The nearest Lidl to us used to have the bakery. Just inside the door where every child ran their hands over the French sticks and the smoke from the smoking area weirdly just outside the main entrance drifted in. Grim

Plus the meat looks horrible and not very fresh , but then I usually buy at the butcher. Once bought a large bottle of milk to get home and find it was like cheese.

00100001 · 02/02/2021 11:25

The older cramped, dingy , poorly lit Lidls are horrible. Depressing to shop there
We have one near is, it's a bit grim, always feels a bit grimy. Even though I'm sure it's clean.

The newer, brighter ones are much more pleasant. But the nicer one is about 15 miles away,so only go there if passing.

HurricaneBitch · 02/02/2021 11:50

I have 3 Aldi's, 1 Morrison's, 1 Asda, 3 co-ops, 1 M&S, 1 Iceland between my house and the nearest Lidl, I doubt I'll go.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 02/02/2021 12:06

I'm not keen on the bakery at the moment either. Even if nobody has touched the bread itself they're all touching the tongs.
I can wash fruit / veg.
Washing bread is a bit trickier.

I think it really does depend on where you live.
My nearest Lidl isn’t great. It’s one of the old dingy ones. I occasionally go in for certain things which I like, the Greek yoghurt, huge tins of peach halves in juice, several other things but mostly shop at Aldi which is new & bright & amazingly well stocked. Huge difference in the time it takes is a big bugbear with me. I can be in Aldi, traffic light system, sanitising stations, round & out with a trolley full in the same time it takes to get the few bits in the nearby Lidl. Aldi always have five or six tills open, really efficient staff. The Lidl has five tills but a I’ve yet to see more this one open which means waiting ages just to get through checkout.
But I go to Scotland a lot & am surprised at how many Lidls there are whereas you rarely see an Aldi. Ones I’ve shopped in have been bright & modern with variety & quality of produce I’ve never seen at my nearest branch.
I live in a Booth’s area, fabulous but you’d need a mortgage to do any sort of weekly shop there.

Aldi girl here our aldi closed for 2 months for refurb and lidl was next choice i shopped in there but didnt get as much as i didnt know where items were, and wasnt sure about how things like cheeses would taste compared to the ones i know in aldi, we have a very good aldi fresh, clean ,good quality and near to my house cheered when aldi reopened

I’m not loyal to brands so l shop in different places, except Tesco because the one by me is just dirty. Anyway l think l will do my shop from Lidl this week.

I hope yours is one of the nicer ones and that you'll like what you buy Smile
