Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

I've got a holiday in the lakes booked with my parents for a week in June. No way I'm not going. They are already our childcare bubble, my dad has had his first vaccine dose already and is just waiting for number two, mum is 68 so will have had hers by then. DH and I and kids not vulnerable.

I expect it's just part of a general strategy to keep the fear up and the people in line during these next few weeks while the vaccines get through the top four groups. Spring is coming, there's sunshine, people are getting fidgety. The gov need to make sure everyone "behaves" for another couple of months and the best way to do that is make them scared and miserable.
@LadyCounterblast, Flowers if you want them. I am actually not bad today so I can hold people up a bit if they need it.

@BogRollBOGOF, Stardew Valley for me.
Thanks @ISaySteadyOn Brew much appreciated x

My distracting game of choice is Assassin's Creed. I enjoy little more than piloting a taciturn and actually quite handsome digital man around various historical world locales and scrambling up and down buildings.

(Equally capable women are featured in subsequent instalments but I'm working my way through the games and haven't reached them yet.)

So, Im guessing thats the same Grant Schapps who told us last year no one would be going away. When we were in a much worse situation than we are now. okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
Well he can fkn do one.

FatLadySang · 10/02/2021 13:25

Back with a name change - realised I hadn’t done it for a while.

Just had a text offering vaccination appt. got to check it is legit as I didn’t think my condition bad enough to be offered yet.

Issue - still breastfeeding DC and likely to for some time. I know the guidance has changed at new year but it is still a risk and not sure what to do. Thoughts?

wanderings · 10/02/2021 13:38

I'm certain that what Grant Shapps said is part of the general plan to keep the plebs docile, miserable and in their obedience school for as long as they can, to play for time before the inevitable riots. Again: "when negotiating, always demand more than you hope to get". That way, Saint Boris can say "Yippeeeeeeeeeeeee! I saved your Great British Summer!!!!" He's been wanting to say that ever since the opportunity to do the same with Christmas was so cruelly and inhumanely snatched away from him.

I personally don't intend to have the vaccine while breastfeeding. I might if I thought I was at significant risk from Covid though (I'm not). Not sure how much that helps, sorry!

You can say that, but if hotels, holiday lets are barred by law from opening, then that is it.
Worldgonecrazy · 10/02/2021 14:10

We have sadly decided to defer our Greek holiday to October.

I really hope for the sake of our home tourist industry that they can open up.

One of my homes is in a touristy area and it is heart breaking to see it so quiet. The local cafes and restaurants are trying very hard to keep going, and the locals are doing what they can to support them, but a lot of those same locals are reliant on the tourist trade to pay their wages.

I imagine it’s much worse in those quieter tourist areas such as parts of Cornwall and Cumbria.

FatLadySang · 10/02/2021 14:10

@110APiccadilly all thoughts are helpful! My DC is a toddler but resolutely against giving up milk 😄. Not sure if that makes a difference. Certainly didn’t think I’d still be feeding at this point....

FossilisedFanny · 10/02/2021 14:21

@rosettesforjill regarding the eye referral, do you know how long it took to get an appointment? I’ve just called the hospital and they haven’t received it yet. I now have a terrible headache and am getting a bit worried.

I'm in the same boat! DD is almost 28 months and is absolutely not willing to give up on breastfeeding yet. I'm hoping come spring when we can do more outside / go on days out I will be able to convince her to stop. At the moment she has three a day - waking up, for nap time in the afternoon, and before bed. No idea how to get her to stop, her older sister just gave up on her own at about 16 months so I haven't really had to think about it! It's another random side effect of lockdown. She's home with me all day instead of being in nursery or playgroup so boobs are on tap, so to speak.

2020BogOff · 10/02/2021 15:45

I have a couple of short breaks I am looking at in the uk lined up. All will be fully refundable if we need to cancel and all booked by credit card as a back up.

I am waiting for our local restaurant to reopen and will head there as soon as it does.

Both DH and I have said this isn't a life worth living anymore so we will be out when we are 'allowed'. Staying safe can just fuck off Grin

It was very quick so definitely worth following up. Hope it comes through soon!

FossilisedFanny · 10/02/2021 16:38

@rosettesforjill I chased the hospital and the optician haven’t sent the referral 🙄 . They also said it would take up to ten days to process it.

DWPmisery1972 · 10/02/2021 16:39

Cake and Brew for all you ADs still breastfeeding toddlers, I salute you!

Re holidays .... fuckin hell. Just another shitshow.

Got some good news today, my solicitor has finished all my divorce papers So ex is going to get a shock up the arse after (hopefully) being found guilty this month for assault. Other than that, ds4 has decided to piss his trousers in protest when he doesn’t get his way- so I’ve put a nappy on him and sent him to his room. You wanna act like a baby? I’ll treat you like one young man Grin

DWPmisery1972 · 10/02/2021 16:41

@FossilisedFanny sorry you’re having issues with getting your referral sorted Flowers

ISaySteadyOn · 10/02/2021 16:46

@FatLadySang, @SirSamuelVimes, I am a lentil weaving yoghurt knitting mother so I did natural term breastfeeding and what I noticed with my 3 is that they tailed off when they got all their teeth.

Ah that is interesting. Mine has had last two coming through over last couple of months. I’m at the same stage as you @SirSamuelVimes and also feeding 3 times a day although only morning and night on nursery days.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/02/2021 18:45

Did you know that your milk actually has painkilling properties for teething little ones? How awesome is that!

TabbyStar · 10/02/2021 18:55

@LadyCounterblast I have health anxiety reared its head lately I think worsened because I've been alone so much. Also on behalf of my daughter. It's horrible. I've referred myself for CBT, though there's obviously a waiting list and they've never been very helpful in the past as most of my anxiety is down to the situation and not really unusual in the circumstances (I've been misdiagnosed with one thing that I haven't got the symptoms of and have been trying to get a second opinion for nearly three years and told I've got something else scary that may or may not ever affect me, but they also messed up the diagnosis of that too, this latest thing is another possibly genetic thing). It's difficult to just forget about it and carry on, though there's nothing I can do right now.

wanderings · 10/02/2021 18:58

For once, Starmer was talking some sense tonight (I didn't watch it, looked at BBC summary), that didn't sound like him simply opposing whatever the government says:

 • "I know an empty threat when I see it", on the 10 year prison sentence. He could just have easily quipped "why not 15 years?".
 • Mixed messages about booking holidays: I'm glad somebody's calling the government out on that. Show the government that we don't have short memories.

It doesn't make me want to vote for him, though. And I wonder which will be the first politician to fall foul of the new quarantine roolz, or to pay for their quarantine on "expenses"?

Someone told me this also works after vaccinations. It seemed to help DD but I'm not sure if that was just the comfort and familiarity of it.
ISaySteadyOn · 10/02/2021 19:34

Breast milk is absolutely amazing and we don't know nearly enough about it because only mothers do it and thus it is not worth looking into (my thought after reading Invisible Women)

@wanderings, Starmer (it autocorrected to starker Grin) expressed scepticism that wasn't Lock down harder, not enough lives have been spoiled

ISaySteadyOn · 10/02/2021 19:40

?! was meant to end that sentence about Starmer
