Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

nah, he does not hit the spot at all. Too grungy looking for me. Grin

Fair enough. I’m quite partial to a bit of grunge Wink

@justasking111

Anyone catch the ITV news, Tom Bradby was off his face, so funny, he said at one stage princess Eugenie had a baby with her husband Brook Spank, he could not say the word instagram, and other gaffes, he just collapsed laughing at the end of the programme. Was the best news I have seen in years. Grin
I just looked on Twitter but alas, no clips! Sounds good.
TabbyStar · 10/02/2021 06:34

DWPmisery1972 both my DPs have had carers, who were also lovely, but the way you describe it I'd be thrilled if it was you looking after them Thanks

Weeds yes that NHS sending you repeated letters when there are no appointments is infuriating. It was like that before covid though.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/02/2021 06:43

Just been "over there" and they are still sure that schools won't be open till after Easter because they are a hub of community transmission (strange, I'm sure the reason previously was that all the teachers were ending up in icu and they were at huge risk of dying). Yet no one can seem to understand that the whole point of lockdown and closing schools was to relieve pressure on the NHS. If the people infected aren't needing hospital then it's a non issue surely.
Anecdotally, they are testing ds primary staff every week, have been since returning. Not a single case. Not one.

Also why do people seem sure we'll be locked down again in the summer?

The vaccine, the drop in admissions and the seasonality of the virus is all positive news right?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 10/02/2021 06:44

Oh and @DWPmisery1972 I wished we'd had someone like you when my mum needed carers Thanks

bakingcupcakes · 10/02/2021 07:27

@DWPmisery1972 I do think a lot of people see care workers as cannon fodder and it makes me sad. I think it takes a certain type of person to work in a care role (I couldn't do it) and those that can are so undervalued it makes me angry. One of my closest friends is a community nurse now but he worked in care for years before qualifying. He was incredibly good at it but I always felt he wasn't valued properly or paid enough for the work he did. His job was much harder than mine.

I feel quite bitter this morning. I've been thinking about all the things DS has missed out on and how I don't feel like I'm going to get them back with any regularity. He should have been in Beavers, going swimming, meeting our family etc. Instead I've resorted to signing him up for zoom things - yet more stuff we do via a screen. I'm so grateful I've got 2 AD friends to meet (separately) to break up the monotony but at times I feel like I'm being robbed.

I am spectacularly ignorant about any music written after about 1900 that isn't either a film score or by Vaughan Williams. So this Dave G of whom you speak, how good would he be at looking after a baby for a few hours so DH and I can sleep? And if no good, can I return him and exchange for Jo Frost or someone like that?

Yes @LivinLaVidaLoki. I view the current situation in a similar light - there are big positives right now. They are wanking themselves into a state of hysterical euphoria "over there".
Reedwarbler · 10/02/2021 08:54

I had never seen this Dave G either, old fart that I am. He looks like Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen's younger brother in the pic. posted.

ISaySteadyOn · 10/02/2021 08:54

@DWPmisery1972, thank you for your answer. That's most reassuring!

I feel so depressed after listening to Grant Schapps this morning. They’re never going to let us out are they.

It’s like living under Putin.

Buzzinwithbez · 10/02/2021 10:59

I'm doing the constant checking of twitter for good news today. I don't watch the news, so I'm missing most of the doom and gloom and hysterics, but it feels like a down day here ( probably contributed to by PMT) and I need something to pick me up.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/02/2021 11:05

I like a bit of rock for a short, hard, fast run. Or housework.

My head feels clearer than yesterday. DS2 being in a half decent mood over home schooling and some sunshine are helping.

Now going to immerse myself in Minecraft to avoid engaging with the other side...
It's so frustrating, the data (vaccines, cases, hospitals) is unequivically good and going in the right direction, but the narrative being spun is so repressive and gloomy.

Grant whatever his name is can fuck off.

Don't book holidays in the UK? Why Grant? That suggests to me that we aren't even going to be allowed a summer this year.

Cunts.

Apparently said it about last summer too. Going for 2 out of 2 wrong there Grant?
DWPmisery1972 · 10/02/2021 11:39

Strangely enough I’ve just had a call this morning from the daughter of one of the men I used to look after, he has passed. Funeral will be over zoom, family have invited me. I’m quite distraught I never got to say goodbye, I always said I’d go back when all this was over and give him a hug and say hello. Never got to. Drugs I’m on are making me numb so I can’t even cry. Oh well, such is life.

Grant is a cock, end of

I agree with whoever said about the D’s just masturbating them selves into hysteria over the excitement of being locked up until 2035- they’re just loving it and I’m sick of it.

Sick of the world today. Going to keep the curtains closed.

DWPmisery1972 · 10/02/2021 11:41

Kids going to their dads tomorrow and then the weekend (I don’t know why they don’t just keep them Thursday -Sunday but hurrrr durrrr court orders amirite) and then my lovely bubble aka my partner will be here. I’m counting down the days when I will have someone here to look after me.

LadyCounterblast · 10/02/2021 11:51

I'm having a really down day today. I've got things to do but I keep procrastinating and now it's almost midday and I've done nothing except get dressed.

I get health anxiety and it's especially bothersome this week. Obsessing over a tiny, tiny thing that's pretty much guaranteed to be nothing. (I have a 0% diagnosis success rate when it comes to myself.) Then I get sad because I feel like all I can think about is what might be wrong with me and how awful it might be and blah blah blah. I can get stuck in that cycle and end up staring into space with a head full of unhappiness and worry.

Sorry, that was all a bit me me me. That's the problem with certain sorts of anxiety, it can send one deep up one's own arse.

Tempted to ask refugee turning up from France if I can have their raft when they've finished with it 😔
Worldgonecrazy · 10/02/2021 11:59

Over there is ridiculous. Bloody variants now, as if somehow a virus mutation that will in all likelihood be less deadly, is a reason to keep us locked up.

Plus a conservative government wouldn’t deliberately ruin the economy. No of course it wasn’t deliberate but it’s happened and we are being encouraged to pretend otherwise.

What devastation will there be when we emerge blinking into the sunlight like extras in a dystopian movie? I remember how many shops were permanently closed during last year’s brief interlude of city centre office working. There will be more closures when I go back, or the shops will be replaced by short lease cheap tat shops, everything for a fiver. 😢

ISaySteadyOn · 10/02/2021 12:16

@LadyCounterblast, Flowers if you want them. I am actually not bad today so I can hold people up a bit if they need it.

@BogRollBOGOF, Stardew Valley for me.

justasking111 · 10/02/2021 12:27

Huge swathes of Wales, Scotland, England are fucked if domestic holidays are banned. The only thing going for some areas is tourism. Am not talking about furlough, etc. but the actual fabric of some buildings, which will deteriorate quickly with no bodies, heating, income. I was resigned to not going abroad, but to say I cannot travel anywhere is a real body blow.
