Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

I’m still undecided about the vaccine if I’m honest. If I thought for one minute that having it will mean all restrictions are lifted and life will return to normal then yes, in a heartbeat. My big concern is that there doesn’t seem to be any clarity on this and I don’t trust the Government or SAGE any more.

2020BogOff · 09/02/2021 09:56

I will have the vaccine when I am offered (part of the under 50s) simply because I think it may be needed to travel and I really hope the government use it to banish the BDs expectations of continuing restrictions.

If I was to weigh up the pros and cons though based on my age, health and the fact that I didn't catch covid when DH was coughing all over me for days then I wouldn't have it.

mightbealittlebitmad · 09/02/2021 09:59

I feel like I'm at breaking point with the kids now and am so worried that they won't go back on the 8th. I can't take my eyes off them for 5 minutes otherwise they find something to destroy. It's exhausting constantly having to tidy up after them or check on them to make sure they are behaving. That's without the drama of homeschooling. It's freezing outside so going for walks isn't all that appealing.

I'm so fed up of nothing for us to look forward to that I'm getting us a hamster. Kids have been asking for one and I had one a few years back so I know how to look after them. Bonus is they don't live long and are cheap to look after. Only issue is that I already have a cat so I'll have to make sure said hamster is locked in its own room but I did that with my last hamster and 2 cats.

I've also managed to book an air b&b round the corner in a few weeks. This shared parenting isn't working with him not having anywhere other than here to have the kids and I'm desperate for a break where I don't have to leave the house for several hours.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 09/02/2021 10:02

I'm 41 and will have it whenever I can. Only because I want to go on holiday as much as I can afford as soon as this shit show is over! So not for strict health reasons in my case.

I posted this on the optimism thread but I thought you might appreciate it too. For everyone living abroad, missing family abroad or just desparate for a holiday.

LadyCounterblast · 09/02/2021 10:22

Morning everyone. Nice to hear about the holiday plans. It does lift the mood. I've got a couple of things in, one UK and one abroad. Both cancellable and refundable if circs change but I'm keeping faith for now.

I'm planning to get vaccinated when the opportunity arises. I'm 42 and I don't feel like I need it, health-wise especially since I've already had covid and it wasn't terribly bad for me but I'm self-employed and being ill has a direct impact on work scheduling and finances so I've always tried to mitigate those risks. I always have a flu jab for the same reason.

@mightbealittlebitmad I like the idea of the hamster. 🐹 I had one growing up (first pet, I graduated to a cat) and I loved it. Endless fun getting it to run through old toilet roll tubes. (Although it would eventually try to eat them.)

NeedWineNow · 09/02/2021 10:22

Both DH and I have decided that we are having the jab as soon as we are offered it. We can quite easily see it being a requirement to travel in the same way as having inoculations for places like China or Africa are required. If it is a means for us getting to Greece in August then count us in!

Bollss · 09/02/2021 10:39

I've been vaccinated through work, not really for health reasons but because we were expected to and yes also for travel.

Dp won't get his for a long while though so probably a bit pointless anyway!

Taswama · 09/02/2021 10:46

Thanks for that article @starfish88 . We have a week in Cornwall booked fir the May half term (which is actually mostly in June this year).

Worldgonecrazy · 09/02/2021 11:25

We have a holiday booked in Greece for May 1st. At the moment, we can go, if vaccine passports are introduced we can’t as we are not able to get vaccinated and can’t queue jump. I also hate the idea of enforcing vaccines through the back door, especially as if we need them for travel, will we need them to do normal stuff like concerts? Shopping? Where does it stop?

That's good to see.

We haven't got plans yet. Ideally we'd like to head to Ireland to catch up with family for the first time in nearly 2 years as it will be by the summer holidays. There are variables involved though...

But realistically, vaccination plus naturally low viral rates in the summer, I can'y see the justification to destroy the tourism sector. I understand the caution now while we're getting the vaccinations started both here and beyond where there is less progress. And we already know that vaccines retain much of their efficacy against the different strains emerging.

I just need to keep existing until the children are in school, the mud dries up and its legal to have some routine to my week.

CoffeeWithCheese · 09/02/2021 12:03

And here we go wtih 10 minutes more lecture time wasted from the ranting from this lecturer who hates online as much as we all do.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/02/2021 12:49

@Worldgonecrazy Mitsokakis has said that a vaccine will not be a prerequisite for travel to Greece.

Have a lovely time

Thanks for that. I love a bit of optimism! We’ve booked for Greece at the end of August and are keeping everything crossed.
Worldgonecrazy · 09/02/2021 13:18

@LivinLaVidaLoki

I read that but, then I read that Greece will implement vaccine passports. I hope it’s the media being their usual scary selves.

Can you tell us, from almost the front line, how Greece is doing at the moment? We are supposed to be going to Kefalonia. Anything you can share would be useful.

We are going to see if we can reschedule to October. I hadn’t realised that VillaPlus have stopped selling package holidays so it will cost us a few hundred more but might be worth it for peace of mind. I had so hoped we would be somewhere near normal by now.

Efharisto!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/02/2021 13:21

@Worldgonecrazy Thats a media misrepresentation of what he actually said.
Surprise.

He said he supports the idea of a vaccine passport in Eurpope - in principle, as it could increase vaccine take up, but it will not be a prerequisite to travelling to Greece.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/02/2021 13:21

Europe, even. Bloody sausage fingers.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/02/2021 13:27

Sorry got a bit distracted, there are businesses and hotels that didnt open last year that are now preparing to open with an expected opening of "the summer season" in May. The greek tourism minister has stated that, given the seasonal behaviour of covid, the lessons learned from last year, more treatments and the speed of vaccinations, he sees no reason why Greece cant open, even if to just a few countries (such as the UK) from May. But it depends on restrictions in the outgoing countries.
Its all very hopeful at the moment, compared to how it was last year its really positive.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 09/02/2021 13:28

Its anticipated some measures such as the PLFs and random testing will remain in place.

rosettesforjill · 09/02/2021 13:35

We've got a fortnight booked in Spain in August. I'm cautiously optimistic. I expect European destinations will be very keen to open up if they can - after all, they did last year (and we managed to take advantage of it)! I haven't booked flights yet but it will be Malaga so I expect there will be quite a lot of choice.

I will be having the jab as soon as I'm allowed but don't think it should be a prerequisite for travel. I can imagine it being a choice of a negative test or proof of vaccination though for the more draconian countries Spain

DWPmisery1972 · 09/02/2021 14:10

@ISaySteadyOn yes, I do, ask away!

countrygirl99 · 09/02/2021 14:10

We have a week in Pembrokeshire in June deferred from.ladt June. This year was meant to be a big holiday as it's the year between our 60th birthdays and our Ruby wedding. We are hoping to get to Finland but their government is very conservative so not holding out any hope for the first half of the year, then I have a big project to deliver July and August so keeping fingers crossed for September.

NannyGythaOgg · 09/02/2021 14:10

I really want to go to Turkey in May or June.

I buy medication out there. I am hypothyroid and in the uk most Ps will only prescribe T4 and I am so much better when I can have T3 as well. I buy over a years supply at a time in Turkey but I last went in 2018 and have now run out and I can't wait to get some more.

I also need new specs and I buy them in Turkey. My last pair cost £150 in Turkey, which included a full eye exam by an ophthalmic surgeon. A similar pair is over £500 in the UK.

Plus, I just love Turkey!

OK about to pick up grandson from school his mum has found he has scribbled on the skirting under a wardrobe, under the desk in the office also, she is on her last nerve, as I suspect is grandson. He is a live wire no mistake unlike his goody two shoes older brother. I think a breather for both of them is in order. He is just like his daddy was which amuses us no end. He needs some extra attention and loving in our opinion.
