Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

@DWPmisery1972

I hope I have that description right... I’m relatively new Blush
Good summary Smile

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.^

And throw in random stuff like animal pictures and double entendres for a bit of a cheer up Wink

Thank you @DWPmisery1972 sounds like a very good idea!

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 00:32

Thanks Bog our master anti dementor! Hope you’re having a good evening :)

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 00:35

And welcome Fanny! The women here have been very kind, so funny and upbeat and got me through a hard few days recently. It’s a great place to be :) the support for all our ups and downs is so reassuring, which I think we all need at the moment. Ooh I’ve come over all emotional, very in mumsnetty of me puts stiff upper lip back on Grin

FossilisedFanny · 29/01/2021 00:37

Aw thank you, things have been tough here (nothing to do with the C word either).

Fuckingcrustybread · 29/01/2021 00:42

Well, that's my 66th birthday over. I am now officially a pensioner -

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 00:54

Fanny sorry you’ve been through some hard stuff, socially distanced hugs for you Flowers

Ooooh a stray crusty! I have to stop myself collecting more cats, with 6 I don’t think I could deal with anymore... although I’d love to...

Nanny happy birthday! Ill probably be 93 before I reach pension age- it’s already gone up 3 years since I started working 12 years ago! (I’m 27). Lots of Cake and Flowers for you Smile

NannyGythaOgg · 29/01/2021 01:28

@DWPmisery1972
mine went up 5 years in my late 40s and then another year in my late 50s so Fuck knows what is going to happen in the future. Although according to much science, average life expectancy is not going to increase so hopefully thing wont' get much worse.

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 01:31

Nanny that’s interesting, to be honest I’m not expecting any kind of public pension to exist by the time I reach that age (if I make it that far) so will start making provisions myself... eventually Grin

MercyBooth · 29/01/2021 01:33

Aww @Fuckingcrustybread hes lovely.

6 cats DWP? I LOVE cats.

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 01:51

Yes Mercy- I took in a stray that I didn’t know was pregnant (how did I not realise Hmm) and 3 weeks after having her, she gave birth to 5 kittens in my kitchen! I cried when they were born, and it took my broodiness away at the time (my kids were growing out of baby years so I was feeling it) and I’ve been in love with them ever since.

It’s hard work, expensive, but I love them to pieces and wouldn’t give them up for anything in the world!

MercyBooth · 29/01/2021 01:55

Awww. Bear

Nomnomarrgh · 29/01/2021 01:55

Saw pictures of footballers in the paper today. They have awfully tidy hair for a country without barbers.

MercyBooth · 29/01/2021 02:03

@Nomnomarrgh i think exactly the same thing when i see them. And celebs...............and news readers and presenters.

31 Metropolitan Police officers who had their hair cut by a barber at Bethnal Green Police Station are facing £200 fixed-penalty notices for breaching Covid-19 regulations while on duty. The two officers who organised the cuts are under investigation for misconduct

110APiccadilly · 29/01/2021 02:56

I'm afraid I haven't been to the hairdressers in years. I have long hair and the way I wear it means all it needs is a quick trim to remove split ends which anyone with a pair of scissors can do. I also do DH's with clippers so both of us are cheapskates.

2020BogOff · 29/01/2021 05:30

Have used the clippers on DH for years and my haircut is a forgiving one. It looks best after a cut but I can simply put it in a ponytail when longer.

Hello all! Sorry been AWOL needed a time out for a bit.

Lovely pics btw

NastyBlouse · 29/01/2021 06:53

Checking in. Morning all. New thread title is 👌

Reedwarbler · 29/01/2021 07:04

I cut my own hair before christmas as it was getting so long. I was quite surprised it doesn't look too bad.
Snow possible for us this weekend, but we are SW so may be rain - but has anyone looked ahead to the following weekend? Masses of snow forecast for most of the country (Looking on NetWeather's snow forecast maps) and very low temps. Of course it might change before then.
Off to the supermarket shortly. It is always very quiet at this time, apart from the hordes of staff filling the internet shopping carts.

Wilberforce42 · 29/01/2021 07:07

Morning! Love the new thread title 😁

DWPmisery1972 · 29/01/2021 07:17

Morning everyone! My shift is nearly over so hometime and then home covid test time for me (yay 🤢) I can say I never enjoy sticking the thing in my orifices... tbh at this point I’d take the one from China up the bum

Anyway... I haven’t had my hair cut in about 5 years and I dye it myself so the haircut thing hasn’t been an issue but I love how you guys have noticed this about people on tv! It never even occurred to me. One rule for the plebs and all that I guess...

My other half’s hair is starting to get so long his kids say he looks like a ‘mad scientist’ - I was trained at cutting hair but never completed the course because I was a lazy teen so I will get the shears on him at some point Grin

How is everyone today? Any plans? Not sure what the weather is going to be like so whether I go for a walk or not is debatable at the moment

DrRamsesEmerson · 29/01/2021 07:18

I miss the hairdresser, but it’s so far down the list of things I’m upset about that I don’t normally mention it. Last year I cut it myself in May; it’s short so looks appalling if I just leave it. I’m otherwise quite low maintenance; my eyebrows are natural and I shave when I start to look too much like a yeti.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 29/01/2021 07:22

Is it just me who feels quite positive that vaccines are having an effect on transmission as I can't remember cases falling this much in any of the other lockdowns?
