Pay with Dict8

Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

@njg575: When I applied I already had my self-employed assessment number. I think the rules said when applying to Dict8 that you must be self-employed and they are not responsible for any repercussions (or words to that effect) -- I knew a few people 'flying under the radar' working for NHS too. Self-employed pay tax a year behind so you will need to put in a tax return by April 1st of next year. It is not worth imprisonment (as I read).

njg575 · 25/05/2021 12:04

@Gally123 @danblack87 thanks for your helpful advice. Glad I'm sorting this out now rather than later.

BTW its nice to meet a few people from Dict8 on here :)

danblack87 · 25/05/2021 12:44

njg575: This is a good forum and lots of people can give advice when needed - In some areas some transcriptionists know more than others and I find it very helpful. Welcome to Team Dict8.

njg575 · 25/05/2021 12:55

@danblack87 I must say I followed this forum for a while before joining Dict8 as I don't know anyone on Dict8.

Everyone has been really helpful :)

danblack87 · 25/05/2021 13:10

@njg575: Smile

deewu · 26/05/2021 10:13

Has anyone ever been asked to pick up a task that has been sitting on the system for a while? What should the correct response be, ask for a bonus??

Gally123 · 26/05/2021 10:39

@deewu - I have and the first time by the time I saw the email the task had been typed. Since then I have been asked a couple of times and said no as once I was actually logged out and not working(!) and another time I was due to stop working for other commitments.

Gally123 · 26/05/2021 10:43

@carosel2 @Chrissols on Monday after the weekend and with the current IT problem with Tpro my hospital backlog of letters was down to about 20 and it did not pick up much during the day, so they gave us another hospital as well, so now the typing backlog is about 400 and I have more choice on specialties, so quite happy now!

Poppy379 · 26/05/2021 11:03

@deewu I have never been asked to pick up long stay tasks. Do you think this means Dict8 have now abandoned their previous unfair policy of blocking access to all tasks except the one that no-one wants? Dict8 must know there is always a very good reason why some tasks don't get chosen - it's because they're virtually unintelligible! I think a bonus should be offered as a gesture of good will, especially as they're likely to be extremely taxing and time consuming and won't not offer much of a return for the amount of time required to transcribe them.

carosel2 · 26/05/2021 11:21

@Gally123 - that is brilliant news for you! Smile, I have just under 300 tasks at the moment. They still have the problem but I am really enjoying working for them, I choose a bit of both between them and dict8 throughout the day and getting more familiar with the way they do things, plus there is always some on a weekend if I want to earn a bit extra. Hope you stay with your additional hospital. I don't need another one as there is enough of my specialities on the one I have to keep me going Smile

Gally123 · 26/05/2021 11:28

@carosel2 - typical! Now they have asked us to revert to our original group, however the extra work is still there (fingers crossed). This week I had been doing more Tpro than DICT8 as the quality with DICT8 is so poor by the time I have struggled to hear, the extra money potentially earned is lost.

carosel2 · 26/05/2021 11:41

@Gally123 - oh no! - I know what you mean about quality of dictation with dict8 even though the Irish accent can be strong you get used to the doctors. I can make the same money with Tpro now as I am finding it quicker to pick up VR than to type dict8 crap dictations. Fingers crossed your volume remains Wink

Chrissols · 27/05/2021 09:24

@Gally123 @carosel2 I think my favourite will always be Dict8, especially now there seems to be a never ending flow of work, I only get the odd one with bad dictation, but the majority are good. I don't know why, but I could not get to grips with Tpro, although I do agree, there is potential for good earnings with them.

Gally123 · 27/05/2021 09:37

@Chrissols - you're lucky - even with several specialties with DICT8 I am seeing periods of no letters, and about 90% are crap dictation with poor sound or just people who cannot dictate properly. Yesterday there was a lady whispering her letter while the consultant chatted loudly in the "background" - every word he said was clearly audible, whereas she was a struggle.

Cherryblossom114 · 27/05/2021 14:39

Hello all
Hope you are well. I have a question regarding pay. Im just going through my pack. Is it 8p per line plus Vat. I read something that says VAT if applicable. 🤔

Chrissols · 27/05/2021 14:51

@Cherryblossom114 no VAT, just a straight 8p per line (a line being 67 characters)

OP posts:
Gally123 · 27/05/2021 14:57

@Cherryblossom114 - I think you need to earn £70,000 per year before you can charge VAT.

Chrissols · 27/05/2021 15:14

@Cherryblossom114 not much chance at those earnings, unless you have lightening fingers 🤣🤣🤣 just looked - you would need to be earning £85,000, would be very nice though

OP posts:
Cherryblossom114 · 27/05/2021 16:06

@gally123 @Chrissols oh no, read it again it does say "exclusive of VAT" my brain was processing "in". Lol.
Thanks

carosel2 · 27/05/2021 19:55

@Gally123 @Chrissols Chrissols that's good you have good dictation its not suprising you prefer dict8, you must have a good speciality/s that are obviously not mine lol majority of mine are totally like Gally had one yesterday where it sounded like was on a rubber chair squishing backwards and forwards with it squeaking with child screaming its head off in background and one doc who dictated nearly all messages to his private sec re invoicing in note box. There was only name and date to type. I didnt type it but he did quite a few so how that works il never know nobody is going to do that for nothing. Perhaps doc doesn't realise we dnt get paid for notes. All his letters kept being put back but surely dict8 should be telling him or telling us to put in the letter so we get paid

Cherryblossom114 · 28/05/2021 10:43

Hi all Im getting my ducks in a row to hopefully start on the 1st of next month not having done anything like this before. Hope its not too challenging, need some extra dosh. Wish me luck !
Happy Bank Holiday

Meha5a · 28/05/2021 11:10

I had one the other day where most of the task was taken up with errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, normal dictation of one word, errrrrrrrrrrr, normal dictation of one word, errrrrrrrrrrr, normal dictation of one word.

Yours sincerely 🤣🤣🤣🤣 errrrrrrrrrr !!!!!

I don't think the doctor had mentally prepared the letter beforehand !

Gally123 · 28/05/2021 12:24

@Meha5a reminds me when I was working as a ward secretary and had a tape with one letter on it where the consultant said after giving patient details etc "er...er...err... stop" and that was it. We had a good laugh.

Lovemydaxie · 28/05/2021 13:41

I had some dictation this morning with someone snoring very clearly in the background!!

Chrissols · 28/05/2021 13:50

@Lovemydaxie that's brilliant, at least things like this make us smile 😊
