Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

OP posts:
Meha5a · 21/05/2021 19:19

@Gally123 - didn't even cross my mind 🙄 just went straight ahead and tapped the keys 🙈

Meha5a · 21/05/2021 19:25

@musicismagic333 - Razer Ornata was quite good and you can turn background keyboard light off - couldn't be doing with flashing lights and bad dictation all in one go !!!

musicismagic333 · 21/05/2021 20:04

Went to Currys and the only ones on display came with a PC, so because I haven't got much work right now, I got a cheap £15 job which came with a mouse, which is good because the wire on my mouse is falling apart. Got 21 days to return it if I don't like it.

Gally123 · 21/05/2021 20:41

@Meha5a -when I went we had to wait outside, tell man on the door what we wanted to look at and wait until allowed it. I was lucky - some people wanting popular departments had to wait some time. Then go directly to what we said we wanted to look at & no wandering around & looking elsewhere. Still, nobody rushed over & stopped you.

Meha5a · 22/05/2021 10:13

Seems like different rules for everywhere (as per the norm) our Curry's was a free for all !

Chrissols · 22/05/2021 11:35

Our Curry's doesn't have any restrictions at all, although it may have done before things lifted

Mondays are so slow to get going 🙇‍♀️

OP posts:
Meha5a · 24/05/2021 09:45

I don't bother Monday morning, when office based we never used to start anything until about 11.30 after coffee and a catchup 😀

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 10:54

@Chrissols and @Gally 123: When dictated "letter to GP" I always head it as General Practitioner I have been okay since then - I got pulled up a few years ago after typing 'Letter to GP' years !!!

Chrissols · 24/05/2021 11:10

@danblack87 on the Dict8 instructions it says typing GP or General Practitioner are both acceptable, I just got a new proof reader I think. It is cheaper for them to type GP. When I got pulled up, they were insinuating I should not have put the heading at all, in which case who would know who the letter was for.......😂😂😂

OP posts:
Poppy379 · 24/05/2021 11:25

@Chrissols @Gally123 @danblack87 Hang on, am I missing something?! Can you clarify something please? I always type 'Letter to GP' - are you telling me that I could have got away with typing 'Letter to General Practitioner' or even just 'General Practitioner'?? Doh! - when I think of the number of letters I've typed for Dict8 over the last 10 years....

Chrissols · 24/05/2021 11:28

@Poppy379 yes, according to the rule book either one is fine, unless of course you get the same proof reader that I got, in which case you don't tell anyone who the letter is to 🤣🤣🤣

OP posts:
Gally123 · 24/05/2021 11:38

@danblack87, @Chrissols, @Poppy379 - I always type "Letter to GP" if that is dictated. If it is not I leave it blank or type as dictated, ie Dr Smith etc. If they say "Dear GP" I take that to indicate "letter to GP." I only type "general practitioner" in full if it is dictated in full. However, I think we all know now that as far as proof reading and feedback goes, it is one rule for one etc, the same as not everyone has access to the lucrative tasks.

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 12:01

It can all be it bit annoying but I got feedback not to put 'letter to GP', hence, 'General Practitioner'. Also for 'parents of small children' ... that for me would be Dear Parent(s/)/Guardian(s) !!

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 12:03

@Poppy379: Always Date, then General Practitioner then Dear Dr (add the name if they put one and put that above General Practitioner ... that is what I do anyway. Hmm

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 12:08

There are a quite a few dictations on today but I am finding they are quite difficult to transcribe due to accents or poor sentence construction.

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 12:09

Today I have no wish to add 100's of notes to poor dictations LOL . Miserable day. Blush

Poppy379 · 24/05/2021 12:16

@danblack87 Well, I''ll have to start substituting 'General Practitioner' for 'Letter to GP' as I think that'll give me an extra 8 characters per letter! Is it 67 characters per line? So I'll earn myself an extra 8p for every 8 to 9 letters. Oh what shall I spend it all on, I ask myself??!!

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 12:33

@Poppy379: I suppose if you think about it, it makes sense (otherwise would we not have to put "Letter to GP" in the notes box?? LOL. I still come across now and then feedback for something I have typed for years and it is rather irritating. Just circumventing, I guess, but still sticking to the rules Wink. A news letter would be good. I hadn't even thought about the extra characters!!!

danblack87 · 24/05/2021 12:38

@Poppy379: I suppose at the end of the month you may be able buy a couple of loaves of bread some toilet roll and some milk Grin LOL

njg575 · 25/05/2021 09:14

Hi fellow Dict8 typists!

I don't know any real life people who work for Dict8 so here I am :) I'm an NHS medical secretary and have worked for Dict8 for a couple of months now.

Can anyone tell me about how you sort out the tax from Dict8? There's not a lot of info about this from Dict8 themselves. I don't want a nasty shock!

Thanks

Chrissols · 25/05/2021 09:31

@njg575 Your have to register as self-employment, even though you may be employed by the NHS also. I am very surprised Dict8 never asked for your number, they always used to. You need to feel in a self assessment every year and may tax, Dict8 will not do that side of things.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 25/05/2021 09:33

@njg575 sorry for the 'typo' should of said pay tax not may tax 🙄. I really am surprised at dict8 though not checking you were registered as self-employed. If I were you I get registered asap to avoid those 'nasty shocks'.

OP posts:
njg575 · 25/05/2021 09:36

@Chrissols thanks so much for your advice. I was never asked anything about tax by Dict8 - I only saw a mention in the welcome pack.

Going to get registered .....

Gally123 · 25/05/2021 09:47

@njg575 - I would just add to @Chrissols advice re self-assessment tax forms etc (which I am also surprised DICT8 did not ask for your self-assessment number before taking you on) that in my first year as self-employed I read a feature in the paper about fines for late payment of filling in forms and paying and got into a panic as had heard nothing from tax people since receiving my initial details - everything is essentially done a year late. So if you start self-employment now (May 2021) you do not need to return a form or pay until next year. The tax form I need to do currently is for tax year April 2020 - March 2021. Hope this makes sense, ie you do not need to return a form until this time next year.
