Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

I have had another good day today and achieved my (lower target) - yeah Smile. Hope work keeps coming in tomorrow.

Gally123 · 14/01/2021 16:01

@Serendipity09 - no, no pay rise (feel like that man from "Vicar of Dibley") in 7/8 years, and taking into account the decrease in work over the last year, it has been a decrease in pay.

danblack87 · 14/01/2021 16:03

@serendipity09 - I think we have all been on the same rate since the dinosaurs began ... Don't think pay rise is in Dict8 vocabulary!! I think it should be raised.

danblack87 · 14/01/2021 16:04

@Gally123: I totally agree with your comment to @serendipity09.

Chrissols · 14/01/2021 16:59

@Serendipity09 Nope

It does beggar belief that the amount per line hasn't increased in the last 15 years or so - well it certainly hasn't in my 10 years or so. I wouldn't have thought there can be many other companies where that's the case - or perhaps there are?! To increase the rate, would they have to put up the rates a whole 1p a line, which is quite a big percentage (admittedly of not a lot to start with though!!), or could they technically do something smaller like an extra 0.5p a line? I know we have said this before in previous threads, and I do bang on about it, but there doesn't seem to be any sort if incentive for loyalty and dedication, and many of us have worked very hard for them over the years.

carosel2 · 14/01/2021 19:26

@umpteennamechanges - Dict8's site is advertising for transcribers to type letters and notes for medical practitioners. If you have medical experience why not apply 8pence a line has been going as long as Ive worked for them quite a few years now and still no change. I registered with Accuro but fell out with them as beginning of first lockdown an email was sent asking if we were prepared to reduce our rate! I thought 50 pence per audio minute was already pretty dire and so I didnt agree. Ive never had any work from them since. I got an email from them back end of last year asking what I specialised in whether medical, law, finance etc. and had to tick a box which was applicable to me. I thought this strange as id worked for them 3 years and surely they should have known. I still havnt had any work from them. I have stopped putting down my availability for them now. If Dict8 could provide enough work then personally I would be quite happy just working for them. Think we just need to hang on in there. An email would.be nice to keep us in the loop to what is going on though - after saying that wasnt a bad day today, managed £20, which is not bad considering the previous weeks

Good morning, it's good to see fellow DICT8ers are managing to find the new thread. The info about other companies is helpful too, in filtering out the ones to avoid. I've not seen any tasks on the DICT8 system today as yet, but I did get up early and often it doesn't get going until later on. I suppose we are also seeing the effects of the reduction in clinics and procedures over Christmas and the awful second wave. I really feel for the frontline staff, roll on Spring and better times.

Chrissols · 15/01/2021 09:52

No tasks for me as yet either, I do find Fridays quiet though

OP posts:
Gally123 · 15/01/2021 10:18

I have done a couple of tasks this morning. When I first joined DICT8 Friday's were always the quietest day of the week, esp early morning and just after lunch. Then they took on a new hospital and it became the busiest day as they seemed to want everything done before the weekend! Now it has gone quiet again....

danblack87 · 15/01/2021 10:19

No tasks yet for me

danblack87 · 15/01/2021 10:56

@Poppy379: I would be happy with an increase to 0.9/line but 1.0/line would be v.good!! Don't suppose it will happen. Perhaps if lots of people migrate they might be inclined to increase the pay to keep us with them (stop us 'flying the nest' so to speak); But, again, I do not expect that to happen at all this year or next, or .... On the other hand it is more likely that if anything were to happen they would decrease the rate to 0.6-0.7p/line for new transcribers?? Just my thoughts.

Chrissols · 15/01/2021 11:03

@danblack87 It did cross my mind that they might decrease the rate for new transcribers as I think that is what TPro have done

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 15/01/2021 11:35

I think DICT8 is probably one of the most professional transcription companies and at least it is run by members of the medical profession, it would be a shame if it lowered its standards to those of the other lower paying tech based companies who don't understand the nature of the work and the skills necessary for it.

Gally123 · 15/01/2021 11:43

@danblack87 - Tpro decreased their rate of pay claiming that voice recognition is quicker and easier than typing from scratch, however it is fiddly. They no longer employ typists that type.

carosel2 · 15/01/2021 11:44

@Whitestar5 - I agree, I hope they are too professional to stoop that low, although one never knows! I wonder why they are still advertising for transcribers when there is hardly enough to go round at the moment, unless some specialties are busier than others (not mine!)- no tasks, this morn, though don't usually log on until afternoon now, as never any tasks on, just a few stragglers from the morning clinics, seems to pick up in afternoon for me and over teatime

Whitestar5 · 15/01/2021 12:03

@Carosel2 I think DICT8 like to have a bank of transcribers and, unfortunately for us, it doesn't matter to them how much work is available to us individually.

Whitestar5 · 15/01/2021 12:08

@danblack87 That's what it's all about isn't it, doing everything at speed, I wish these companies would realise just how tiring and gruelling both typing and editing is in the first place before deciding to make us work harder for a pittance.

carosel2 · 15/01/2021 12:09

@Whitestar5 - yes true, they will be just interested in making sure that their work is up to date won't they

danblack87 · 15/01/2021 12:25

DICT8 maybe advertising for Specialties where transcribers have left, I guess. I certainly won't be moving to any company paying less than 0.8/line and I don't expect Dict8 will change anything ... Although work is drastically reduced, and we assume that is due to COVID restrictions negating the amount of work going through, I can just hold my head above water for now BUT I have not seen anything today, yet. Sad

Chrissols · 15/01/2021 17:09

I've actually had really busy day after a slow start.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 16/01/2021 10:40

@danblack87 do people actually leave Dict8? 😲😲😲

OP posts:
Gally123 · 16/01/2021 10:45

@Chrissols I think some people leave DICT8 - there was a person here, forget who, who said she was giving up on DICT8 and staying with Tpro full time, also I expect there comes a time when those who joined DICT8 on retirement from NHS work feel they have had had enough of work altogether, ( ie not many work past 80 but I do know of some) and possibly there are those who have gone back to paid employment.

Chrissols · 16/01/2021 10:49

@Gally123 yes, there would be enough work at Tpro full time, but Dict8 don't require a minimum amount of work to be done (don't suppose they could really as they don't provide enough) so I just thought people would stay on with them till eternity even if they don't pick up any work......well I don't intend working past 80 hahaha.....not even 70 I don't think........
