Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

OP posts:
carosel2 · 19/05/2021 13:27

@Gally123 - I don't change anything other than the contractions and of course if it doesn't make sense but otherwise I put exactly what they dictate even if it does sound unprofessional. I've never been pulled for it yet, though there is always time!
Did you get any joy with Tpro?

Gally123 · 19/05/2021 13:35

@carosel2 - it does seem weird to type words which years ago if we had used we would have been told to wash our mouths out with soap and water! Surprised therefore that DICT8 would say not to type any slang but not say what constitutes "slang."

No, no joy with Tpro, other than told they would see what they could do but "were very busy," then there has been the ransomware attack etc affecting systems, cancelling clinics. However, I have been typing one of the specialties I had not tried before and it is okay - I have been doing all routine letters, nothing urgent and no one has said anything about that.

Chrissols · 19/05/2021 13:46

@flutterby18 @Gally123 always makes me laugh/cringe when they say 'snotty', and I hate them saying 'kids' as they sound like goats 😂😂

OP posts:
carosel2 · 19/05/2021 14:03

@Gally123 - I must say, DICT8 swap and change like the wind. I have just looked back at my old crib sheet when I started and it states if a doctor dictates 'letter to GP' with no name then you need to type "Letter to GP"! and if he states letter to GP Dr Bloggs then to put Dr Bloggs so contradiction there to the lady who got pulled up on that one from them.

Tpro - glad you are finding something that is easier to listen to. I think they are just glad of anything as I got a message saying they are providing more work from the hospital I work for and said to concentrate on what I knew rather than struggle with the urgents I don't understand, which is a lot better Smile

Gally123 · 19/05/2021 14:04

@Chrissols we used to have a NP that would make me smile whenever she said "bleeding haemorrhoids" or "bloody diarrhoea" as she always sounded so fed up.

danblack87 · 19/05/2021 15:31

Well, reading the latest comments I am surprised. I have had no negative feedback recently. Someone dictated something the other day and I just dropped a Note 'unsure here'. I NEVER type contractions and if I was pulled up about that I would have something to say. I think 'unsure here' covers it all!!!

danblack87 · 19/05/2021 15:35

I always type 'General Practitioner' rather than 'letter to the GP - I have not been pulled on that either

Meha5a · 20/05/2021 10:18

@Gally123 - It seems acceptable these days for colloquial language to be used in letters.

I now view myself as a medical transcriber and type exactly what is said (although I do cringe at some of it 😂😂). I absolve myself of any responsibility for the crap that is being dictated and I am happy in the knowledge that the person who signs said letter is the one responsible for the poor content not me 😀 and besides nobody who receives these letters knows who we are they can only associate this crap with DICT8.

Gally123 · 20/05/2021 10:23

@Meha5a - I have not noticed such language used in letters with Tpro, luckily as our names do appear at the top as the transcriber!

I think these day people certainly associate crap with DICT8...

musicismagic333 · 20/05/2021 10:40

Hi Chrissols
Thank you for asking. I'm not getting any work at the moment. To be honest, I'm not a competitive person in any shape or form, and I'm finding it difficult having to sort of compete against a lot of other people to get any letters. I'm looking into jobs where you are allocated typing but, again, there are so many people out there wanting the same thing. Hey, ho, rumour is that summer's coming, I'll believe that when I see it!

Chrissols · 20/05/2021 11:11

@musicismagic333 it's a shame you are getting no work as things in a lot of specialties have really picked up now, but some might be a bit slow getting back going. Why don't you give Tpro a go, they always seem to be looking for new transcribers/VR checkers and there is always an endless stream of work. They are in Ireland and pay euros but that gets changed when going into your bank, they are also very reliable in that you get paid the same day of the each month without fail. Given them a go.

I really need to get a keyboard. Does anyone find a gaming keyboard is good for fast typing?

Chrissols · 20/05/2021 15:03

I don't know the difference between a gaming keyboard and an ordinary desktop PC keyboard?

Meha5a · 20/05/2021 21:03

@musicismagic333, I'm looking at getting one, been down to Curry's to have a go and they seem pretty quick and springy.

Gally123 · 20/05/2021 21:13

@Meha5a- did they let you touch them? Last time I was in Currys [I needed a new fridge freezer] there were signs everywhere saying not to touch anything.

carosel2 · 21/05/2021 09:31

@musicismagic333 - I agree with Chrissols try Tpro they are brill and very busy at the moment
@Gally123 ÷ I didnt know our names were at the top of our letters we transcribe for Tpro? Not that I mind as I seem to be getting a lot of what my specialities are and have no problems typing them so perhaps or hopefully the Doctor likes my work! Smile

Gally123 · 21/05/2021 09:42

@carosel2 - Unless the names at the top of the letters are just in a sort of "draft" mode but they are shown at the top of the screen and also if you look back at previous letters you can see who typed them. It was a bit of a surprise the first time I saw my name on a previous letter!

My Tpro hospital is very quiet at the moment, esp after they split into groups as they had a ransomwear attack affecting IT systems meaning they have cancelled a lot of clinics, so not good at present, esp as I was struggling with my new group of specialties I had never typed before! - such a different attitude to DICT8 who insist on several years experience; TPro just throw you in at the deep end! Still I am coping, (at one of my hospitals we had to start as being a relief secretary before a consultant's secretary post but were told we should be able to turn our hand to anything) but would prefer a bit more choice, as I say, most clinics have been cancelled so the few letters there are get snapped up quickly.

Gally123 · 21/05/2021 10:03

also - how do we know that our names do not appear as "transcriber" on the DICT8 letters? I have never seen a 'finished' one.

I have seen the transcriber's name, as opposed to the secretary's name, on hospital letters received.

carosel2 · 21/05/2021 10:05

Gally - oh yes, I have just seen my name at the top! I have never noticed that before - the hospital I work for is very busy, perhaps we have different ones but they are mentioning the attack in some of their letters, but perhaps mine can continue?

Chrissols · 21/05/2021 10:06

I've just had a quick look on Tpro and it is showing over 500 tasks waiting in the hospitals I type for, my specialties don't seem to have changed at all since change of groups, very strange

OP posts:
Gally123 · 21/05/2021 10:27

@carosel2 - so far this morning I have seen no new letters on Tpro but obviously have been doing DICT8, but yesterday I probably saw about 30 letters all day for only 3 specialties - I think my group has 6 or maybe 8 specialties.

carosel2 · 21/05/2021 10:58

@Gally123 - I have 8 specialities two are my main ones, but the rest are so busy! 350 so far outstanding mine are about 20 but keeps refreshing and more comes in but they are all up to date, it is keeping me going, as I am just not attempting the others unless I have to, they haven't said anything about me doing the others, but they did say last week to do the ones I know as it will get them done more efficiently and accurately

musicismagic333 · 21/05/2021 11:28

Hi Meha5a I'm going to have a look in Currys, which particular ones did you think were ok?

musicismagic333 · 21/05/2021 11:29

I applied to Wordpro back in January, told to wait 90 days, and didn't hear anything. Is that the same as TPro?
