If you had a baby in your mid/late 30's, how long did it take to conceive?

Hi,

So DP and I are considering this, but I'm really concerned that it will drain us emotionally, as so many people I know and know of seem to really struggle to conceive past their early 30's and it seems to take over their lives.

I'm lucky that I already have a dc from a previous relationship, but that was almost 15 years ago in my early 20's. I did have my fertility checked about 13 months ago and all was very good, but at my age, things can decline very quickly, so don't know how accurate that is. Also concerned about abnormalities past 35. I'll be 37 next year.

Anyway, don't want to ramble, was just looking for your experiences 🙂

TIA

8 months at age 37 had twins , then one month age 38.

MissisBee · 27/12/2020 16:02

1 month at age 32, 2 months at 35

Marmite27 · 27/12/2020 16:02

6 months at 35. I’d been on the pill 20 years though.

20 minutes at 38. Never went back on contraception, decided we wanted a second. Worked out the dates, DC1 was napping and that was that Grin

I'm 35. Took me 8 cycles to get a BFP but sadly had a MC at 10 weeks. Now on Cycle 3 of trying again. It definitely seems to take a lot longer than women I know in their 20s so I'm trying to cultivate patience.

First month of no contraception aged 38.

A couple of years, but that time included being diagnosed with PCOS, and waiting for periods which were months apart. So that's probably quite a bit more than normal.

Jennygentle · 27/12/2020 16:05

One month at 33; one month at 35.

MotherWol · 27/12/2020 16:05

About 8 months, I was using Clue to track my cycle and fertile window with no luck, switched to Clearblue OPK and got a BFP first time. I’m 38, 12 weeks pg with DC2.

beeny · 27/12/2020 16:05

Coil removed 28th December.

Pregnant by January. Didn't even get a period!

I was 36.

NotFrozen · 27/12/2020 16:08

Around 13 months at age 35-36.

mouldygrapes · 27/12/2020 16:09

I’m 36. Took my coil out mid May, pregnant mid August.

gypsywater · 27/12/2020 16:12

There are some stats online if you're interested. I think it's around 15% chance of conceiving per month by 35 with well timed sex. So unlikely to happen straightaway (but could do of course and PP have encouraging stats!) but should be within a test or so. Best of luck.

omg35 · 27/12/2020 16:12

3.5 years at 35- we started trying when I was 32. I conceived the second month of trying at 26 but this baby is with a new partner so can't be sure if my fertility declined or if he's less fertile than my ex. I think responses here will be very mixed and you just have to go with your heart- hate that phrase but it's true in this case

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 27/12/2020 16:12

Two months at 32; one month at 34.

gypsywater · 27/12/2020 16:12

Year not test!

FaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaBlah · 27/12/2020 16:12

Came off the pill in March, pregnant by June. I was 33.

BeesAnkles · 27/12/2020 16:13

34: 4 months
36: 1 month

Totally recommend using CB OPKs and not just an app that estimates your fertile window. I got my BFP on second cycle after using CBs after 6 cycles of nothing beforehand.
