If you had a baby in your mid/late 30's, how long did it take to conceive?

Hi,

So DP and I are considering this, but I'm really concerned that it will drain us emotionally, as so many people I know and know of seem to really struggle to conceive past their early 30's and it seems to take over their lives.

I'm lucky that I already have a dc from a previous relationship, but that was almost 15 years ago in my early 20's. I did have my fertility checked about 13 months ago and all was very good, but at my age, things can decline very quickly, so don't know how accurate that is. Also concerned about abnormalities past 35. I'll be 37 next year.

Anyway, don't want to ramble, was just looking for your experiences 🙂

TIA

I was pregnant within 1-2 months every time. First pregnancy was early 30s, but last two were when I was 37. One ended in miscarriage (just one of those things, I don't think it had anything to do with my age), but I got pregnant the 2nd cycle that time. Pregnancy after my mc, which was with my youngest, I was pregnant first month back to trying. I wouldn't assume you'll have problems unless you have a reason to believe that you will, just because you're older.

For balance - over 2 years with dc1 started trying at 32 and needed ivf, and still trying for dc2 4 years later - started trying at age 37.

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 27/12/2020 17:09

Had a ds at 37.4 on first try.
Ds at 43. 2 after third month ttc.

DS1 one month at 32, DS2 seven months at 36. No tracking or anything other than fairly regular sex.

speakout · 27/12/2020 17:11

TankGirl97 · 27/12/2020 17:11

Age 30 - first month
Age 32 - first month
Age 37 - 18 months (including two early miscarriages)

EcoCustard · 27/12/2020 17:12

Aged 34 for Dc1 and fell pregnant 4 weeks after mmc .
Aged 35 for Dc2 fell pregnant immediately after we started trying (12 month age gap).
Aged 36 for Dc3 and fell pregnant on 1st cycle.
Aged 37 for Dc4 did not actively try as husband had vasectomy when pregnant with Dc3.

I am incredibly lucky considering age and compared to many.

RenegadeMrs · 27/12/2020 17:18

I say this as someone who has 2 ivf babies IN HER 30's: its not use comparing. The whole scope of timescales are possible. Your fertility is your alone and you won't know until you try.

natashaaaaa · 27/12/2020 17:25

33 = 1 month
36 = 3 months

Crunchymum · 27/12/2020 17:28

4 and 6 months - the second time felt like a long time!

PeachesBright · 27/12/2020 17:37

13 months.
Started TTC in March 2019 when I was 34 and DP was 37.
Fell pregnant in April 2020 when I was 35 and DP was 38.
Baby is due in 2 weeks (I'm not 36 and DP is 39).

speakout · 27/12/2020 17:38

EggysMom

I feel that! As a 38 year old childless woman- already had gyn problems, having been told my chances of conceiving naturally were slim.

Two weeks into a brand new relationship= and using condoms.......

Thatwentbadly · 27/12/2020 17:38

36 yrs old. Less than 6 months, although we had fewer opportunities to dtd due to an older child and I had another miscarriage along the way. DD2 was originally a twin. Be aware that multiple births are more likely as you get older.

Darcy86 · 27/12/2020 17:39

Im 34 and 32 weeks pregnant at the mo. It's our first, it took us 7 months to conceive but we weren't really tracking anything up until the month it worked.

Tangledtresses · 27/12/2020 17:45

I had my last child at 42! First at 32

Didn't take long at all
Both healthy big bouncy kids

littlekipling · 27/12/2020 17:45

almost 3 years at age 36 with one missed miscarriage nearly years in - fell pregnant exactly a year after the miscarriage and am now 27 weeks. First child. I had lots of tests done and everything was great with me, partner refused to be tested (but wanted baby almost more than me... go figure) we fell pregnant when he was furloughed and I changed his whole lifestyle with healthy cooked meals (he works away a lot) lots of exercise outdoors and nagging him to take supplements every day (which he didn't do when he was working away all the time). Even he now realises it was like a sperm rather than egg issue causing it to take us so long. But i suppose we'll never know. Good luck xx

littlekipling · 27/12/2020 17:45

that's meant to say nearly 2 years in
