If you had a baby in your mid/late 30's, how long did it take to conceive?

Hi,

So DP and I are considering this, but I'm really concerned that it will drain us emotionally, as so many people I know and know of seem to really struggle to conceive past their early 30's and it seems to take over their lives.

I'm lucky that I already have a dc from a previous relationship, but that was almost 15 years ago in my early 20's. I did have my fertility checked about 13 months ago and all was very good, but at my age, things can decline very quickly, so don't know how accurate that is. Also concerned about abnormalities past 35. I'll be 37 next year.

Anyway, don't want to ramble, was just looking for your experiences 🙂

TIA

One at 35 next at 37
Both straight away. Within the month

Jessicabrassica · 27/12/2020 20:15

2 years at 32, finally conceived at 34 ( referred for fertility treatment after 12mo, took a year to be seen and pregnant within about 8w of first appointment) and 3 attempts at 36.

33 = 2 months
35 = 1 month
37 = 30 secs (didn't even finish doing the deed as toddler woke up crying in next room)

tiers4fears · 27/12/2020 20:48

One go

PringlesForBreakfast · 28/12/2020 16:23

@Itsamess8456, I'm glad you clarified that. I was feeling very sorry for you! Grin

@mnahmnah

The conceived at 32, 36 and 37. All first time trying.
Virtually the same here first time 30, 35, 38
gypsywater · 28/12/2020 16:42

I'm so amazed by the speed at all of these conceptions! Truly defying the stats! Amazing really. Gives hope.

fayebebaby · 28/12/2020 17:12

2 months at 34 and 10 months at 36

Sparrowfeeder · 28/12/2020 17:14

8 months at 38 (lost at 5.5 weeks). Also had a chemical in the first month but not counting that. Still going - cycle 9 now!

gypsywater · 28/12/2020 17:21

@Sparrowfeeder I also conceived on Cycle 8 but had a loss, awful isnt it. Still trying too.

pumpkinpie01 · 28/12/2020 17:24

3 older dc then started trying at 36. Had 4 miscarriages in first year then 10 months to have a successful pregnancy. Gave birth 2 weeks before I was 39

DipSwimSwoosh · 28/12/2020 17:55

I had my kids when I was 30, 32 and 35.
The first two I conceived first time, so I was a bit surprised at 35, it took 2 cycles.

PringlesForBreakfast · 29/12/2020 13:52

It's definitely reassuring, as well as incredibly surprising, to read these responses.

I think I was also nervous about the risks of complications, birth defects etc, being increased.

It's pretty much all DP and I are talking about right now! We really need to draw a line under it, one way or another, because it's sending me a little insane.

2 months at 33

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 29/12/2020 13:57

33: immediately
36: immediately

catfeets · 29/12/2020 14:01

I fell pregnant twice on the first try (at 34 and 35).
This has been the case for several people I know and I don't actually know anyone that has had trouble conceiving after 30.

NameChange30 · 29/12/2020 15:26

It's a good point that it's not just about being able to conceive, the risks of miscarriage and complications do increase slightly with age too.

Utini · 29/12/2020 15:29

I was 34, and once was all it took!

Notashandyta · 29/12/2020 15:36

34: 2 months (mc)

34: 1 month
36: 2 months
38: 1 month

PurplePansy05 · 29/12/2020 15:37

OP, I'd say give it a go. I hear what you're saying re risks and complications but these things can happen at any time to anyone (I'm that example, perfectly healthy and yet 3 MCs in a row, at 32 and 33yo. Theoretically the risk of that was really low!).

Anyway, I'm now 34 and expecting again, it took 2 months. Previous pregnancies, TTC took 2 months, 5 months and 1 month (and that's taking into account recovering from the MCs). Of course there's a risk as you get older, but the point I'm making is don't let this potential risk put you off if you really want another baby. There are people who make up the sad statistics and majority that makes up the happy ones. Don't assume the worst. Good luck.

Whirlwind14 · 29/12/2020 15:40

DS at 35 6 months

No 2- 37 1 month (miscarriage)

DD at 37 2 months

reluctantbrit · 29/12/2020 15:48

A year after removal of my implant. That beast had screwed up my hormone levels thoroughly and it took a couple of months to get regular periods again.

Also, DH and I were travelling for work and often only had 2 weeks per months in the same house.

In the end Dd was conceived on holiday.

I was 33, nearly 34 then.

Onedropbeat · 29/12/2020 15:52

When I TTC mod 30’s it took one month

The first time I TTC I was mid 20’s and it took 4 years

TurquoiseDragon · 29/12/2020 15:54

I was 31 and 35 for mine, and it was about 5 months each time.
