If you had a baby in your mid/late 30's, how long did it take to conceive?

Hi,

So DP and I are considering this, but I'm really concerned that it will drain us emotionally, as so many people I know and know of seem to really struggle to conceive past their early 30's and it seems to take over their lives.

I'm lucky that I already have a dc from a previous relationship, but that was almost 15 years ago in my early 20's. I did have my fertility checked about 13 months ago and all was very good, but at my age, things can decline very quickly, so don't know how accurate that is. Also concerned about abnormalities past 35. I'll be 37 next year.

Anyway, don't want to ramble, was just looking for your experiences 🙂

TIA

Oh I was 37 - I hadn't been on the pill though just using condoms so my body didn't need to adjust - we had known we would be trying at some point last year.

I'm 35 and currently 24 weeks pregnant. I came off the pill in June and fell pregnant in July. I used an ovulation kit to predict most fertile days.

Positive pregnancy test on my 39th birthday. Got pregnant the first time we didn’t use contraception — I know this because we were living in different countries at the time and only had one go.

At age 33 I conceived second month of trying. First baby in mid-late 20s I wasn't trying but I think was a slip up with my pill. Second late 20s was planned, got pregnant first month, had an early loss, but got pregnant again the next month. So in my case my fertility hadn't decreased by 33 (same df, my dh).

Christmas2021 · 27/12/2020 19:29

I was almost 34 I should add.

IcyApril · 27/12/2020 19:31

I conceived at 31, 33 and 35 (gave birth at 32, 34 and 35) and conceived first cycle each time. I’m aware this is unusual though.

Splann · 27/12/2020 19:33

Age 35 one month
Age 39 two months but mc at 13 weeks
Age 39 fell pregnant straight after mc - bit of a shock!

Knowing how your cycle works and when your most fertile couple of days are might help (beforehand I had no idea it was such a small window).

gypsywater · 27/12/2020 19:36

Maybe the 15% figure isnt true given the stats on here! Shock

Wrenna · 27/12/2020 19:41

PaperMonster · 27/12/2020 19:43

I conceived at 41 in a matter of months.

BikeRunSki · 27/12/2020 19:45

First month of trying, 37 and 40.

MargotsBumpyNight · 27/12/2020 19:47

36 - about 6 weeks
38 - about 3 months
39 - about 4 weeks

Heathcliff27 · 27/12/2020 19:48

Age 35 2 months

nevergoingoutagain · 27/12/2020 19:49

Aged 35. One month only. My fertility was no different to that in my 20s where I got pregnant twice straight away.

mangoandraspberries · 27/12/2020 19:51

1 month age 33, 3 months age 35. Hoping for a third when I’m 37ish

jennymac31 · 27/12/2020 19:51

Age 32: 6 months.
Age 36: 5 months.

GlennRheeismyfavourite · 27/12/2020 19:55

First baby I was 34 and it took 1 month - second baby (just had) I'm 37 and it took 18 months second time around to conceive

hellolittlebaby · 27/12/2020 19:56

Under 1 month at 33 (loss)
3 months at 34

Quail15 · 27/12/2020 20:01

4 years and 3 X IVF - DD was finally born when I was 33. ( Unexplained/slightly low ovarian reserve).
Surprise natural pregnancy at 35 - MC 6 weeks
1 month - natural pregnancy at 35 - MC 7 weeks
1 Month - natural pregnancy at 35 - MC Twin girls 12 weeks.
1 month - natural pregnancy - currently 23 weeks with ds - aged 36.

My IVF seems to have kicked started my fertility but it has been very stressful and heartbreaking. If Ds arrives healthy I will definitely not be trying again.

Excitablemuch · 27/12/2020 20:02

34 wasn’t even one cycle off the pill and my second (currently 27 weeks) took 4 months. My cycles after coming off the pill were a bit dodge this time so I took some b6 to lengthen them and extra conception stuff for eggs like coq10 and used the Sperm Meets Egg method. I was exercising, losing weight and eating really well. No caffeine, aspartame and lots of spinach and greens!!
It didn’t take as long as I feared but I went for it properly iyswim. I wasn’t prepared to hang around. I’ll be 38 when this one is born and I certainly don’t think want to be pregnant again (horrendous this time!!).
I was also prepared to go to the doctor at 6 months off the pill with no hesitation. I’m a planner! Go for it I say. Your fertility is not a cliff it declines slowly. Keep an eye on your cycle, know when you ovulate and I also BBT’d to check exact ovulation. Might all sound a bit crazy but I liked knowing my body was doing the right things! Most people conceive within a year :)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 27/12/2020 20:03

After 5 years trying at 36

Then a shock pregnancy at 45! We definitely were not trying and it should have been impossible.

Excitablemuch · 27/12/2020 20:05

Also, forgot to say, I was high risk for Downs and other things in first pregnancy and had harmony test which came back low risk. I had the harmony privately at 10 weeks this time because of my age. Worth the money if you can stretch to it :)

Ferfecksackmammy · 27/12/2020 20:06

First month off the pill at age 40.

bellinisurge · 27/12/2020 20:06

5 weeks. Unexpectedly.

Almostslimjim · 27/12/2020 20:07
