If you had a baby in your mid/late 30's, how long did it take to conceive?

Hi,

So DP and I are considering this, but I'm really concerned that it will drain us emotionally, as so many people I know and know of seem to really struggle to conceive past their early 30's and it seems to take over their lives.

I'm lucky that I already have a dc from a previous relationship, but that was almost 15 years ago in my early 20's. I did have my fertility checked about 13 months ago and all was very good, but at my age, things can decline very quickly, so don't know how accurate that is. Also concerned about abnormalities past 35. I'll be 37 next year.

Anyway, don't want to ramble, was just looking for your experiences 🙂

TIA

I was 38 years and 9 months old when we conceived DD. She was born when I was 39 and 6 months.

Sheleg · 27/12/2020 17:55

It took us 6 months.

@Crunchymum Grin. Was a bit of a shock, all turned out ok. Tests showed it didn’t work, so he had to have another procedure.

Straight away when I came off the pill at 32 and 35

PurpleTygrrr · 27/12/2020 18:01

6 months at 33.... I had been on the pill most of my adult life though and it took a year for my cycle to go back to a normal length.
1 month at 37. Currently 5 months pregnant! Very surprised and feeling very lucky. I don't take it for granted how relatively easy it was for us.

Mammyloveswine · 27/12/2020 18:02

I've been pregnant 3 times, first was ds I got pregnant just before turning 29 on the first try...

DS2 I missed a few pills...got pregnant straight away..

Last pregnancy I missed a pill and again got pregnant straight away that was at 33.

I think everybody is different and just try and relax. Lots of people get pregnant throughout their 30s and well into their 40s!

Good luck!
Try and relax and enjoy the ride too Wink

Started TTC at 34, just had my baby in july at 37, so 3 years. Ivf with 2 miscarriages along the way, no known issues. You never really know what hand you'll be dealt.

RogueV · 27/12/2020 18:04

9 months at 32
2 months 35

notafanoftheman · 27/12/2020 18:06

A year and an IUI for the first at 39. First month for the second age 41.

NotaWickedStepMum55 · 27/12/2020 18:17

2 months at 34 for the first, and that was because (hang head in shame) I had forgotten to take the cap out!

Then 1 month at 36 for the second.

Mind you my mum had 6 in 7 years, so I think I came from fertile 'stock'. Perhaps ask your mum her experience, if you can.

TheVanguardSix · 27/12/2020 18:24

DCs 2 and 3 were my later babies. Both conceived the first time trying (at 38 and 42 respectively).

NigellasMicrowave · 27/12/2020 18:27

34 and it took four months which sadly ended in a loss. I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long next time round.

Plsv87 · 27/12/2020 18:30

Nine months for baby one (I had a BMI of 37/38 and we were quite tense) when I was 35, 6 months for baby 2 when I was 38.

Good luck.

L0obyLou · 27/12/2020 18:38

1 month at 34 and 3 months at 37. Good luck 🤞

SenorFrog · 27/12/2020 18:39

Age 34, I was on antibiotics, wasn't even trying.
Age 38, second month.

PringlesForBreakfast · 27/12/2020 18:42

@NotaWickedStepMum55, I kind of always assumed fertility was to some extent, hereditary, but I was reading earlier that overall, it isn't. My mum has one other child and got pregnant pretty quickly both times, late 20's and then again very early 30's. My sister got pregnant with her first in her early 30's, after a couple of months of trying and her second in her mid 30's, without trying and (apparently) using a condom!!

First time at 34.

Sarahlou252 · 27/12/2020 18:52

One month but mc at 16 weeks. 2 months later was pg with dd. Age 37 xx

zaffa · 27/12/2020 18:54

We weren't really trying, we were thinking about it and figured it would take a long time so we're hit and miss with using condoms - and then also had some work done to the house. We were planning on trying about three months after I fell pregnant, when we returned from Mexico ....
As it happened, I fell pregnant the first month of not trying ....
