Death Penalty?

Just seen a post on FB suggesting Priti Patel has asked for a paper on the restoration of the death penalty, now we have left the EU. Of course it could be completely false, but if true would you support the idea?

I wouldn't, simply because we know that innocent people in the past have been killed.

A person has to be willing to engage in order to be rehabilitated- most aren’t.

Do you have evidence of this or is it just an assumption?

If you support the death penalty for cases where there is certainty of guilt, but not for those where there is an element of doubt, you are not treating equal crimes in equal ways. A sentence needs to reflect the seriousness of the crime, and in some cases the circumstances (e.g. diminished responsibility). It certainly shouldn't reflect how sure you are of the verdict. That would also mean you are in effect saying to those who didn't get the death penalty, "You're guilty, so you get life in prison. But maybe you're not." And then we have three potential verdicts.- definitely guilty, probably guilty, and innocent.

No. I am completely against the death penalty. If one person were to be killed by the state having been wrongfully convicted that's one person too many.

Plus state sanctioned murder feels completely wrong and barbaric.
