Is there a particular present you bought for someone this year that you just can’t wait to give them?
And if so what is it and why?

Microscope went down super well with the 8 year old, he couldn't wait to get it out of the box! It's not the best and tricky to set up but he's happy and likes it and that's all that matters.
6 year old was not as impressed with the plushes as I thought he would be🙈 it was a mando and the Child figure set that got the best reaction but he's told me he loves everything he's got and he even tried a sprout with his tea.
The littlest one has been an absolute madame making sure every single present was opened, whether they were her own or not and also the 6 year olds birthday presents she found in the cupboard🙈 she did give all her presents a hug and was ridiculously cute opening them so swings and roundabouts!

Overall it's been a nice day, its gone at our own pace and we've spent it solely as a family for once which has been nice.

I hope everyone has had a lovely day! Merry Christmas.

Things didn’t go so well here. I had stupidly really got my hopes up that my twins would be excited to open presents, especially DT1 as he’s made so much progress lately. He’s the one who loves puzzles and things so I thought he would love some of his toys - he wouldn’t open any presents, didn’t want to play with the few we opened. so we gave up and figure we will try again today. If no joy, will just unwrap it ourselves and set things up for him to play with. Part of me thinks we should stop wrapping presents but then feet won’t get used to it.

DT2 has enjoyed a few of his gifts as all Duggee related, he is currently clinging on to his new (third) talking Duggee you and repeatedly pressing the buttons. The big gift I ordered from America is still wrapped and under the tree.

I got quite upset about it all last night - most of the time I’m fine with how things are but I really wanted to give them a lovely Christmas, and seeing all my friends kids having a brilliant day was really tough. I feeel okay now.

Aw sink :( I’m sorry it was a disappointing day, it is hard to see our DCs not coping with big things like that.

One tip I saw recently was to cut/fold a small “window” in the wrapping paper so they can see what it is - I think the photo had an example of a little window showing the Lego logo but not really giving away what set it was. Their child found it much less overwhelming but still had the experience of opening the wrapping! Might be worth a try on one of the gifts?

@SinkGirl, I can really see from your earlier post how much effort and love you put into the presents for your DC. You sound like a great mum. Some of our DC can’t cope with the day itself but I bet your presents will really come into their own one day.

My DB really appreciated his Tile, which I was really pleased with. But I was slightly embarrassed as his and SIL’s presents to us were way more generous! We don’t normally end up out of kilter like that. I hope they didn’t mind too much.

ZombiePara · 26/12/2020 20:25

Just as a quick update - DP loves his perfect draft and the first keg is going down nicely!!

DSD loves her pjs and DSS loved his sonic plush... although his mum bought him the exact same one despite us saying we had already bought one...

All round a successful Christmas I think!

RatherLostPenguinsOnParade · 26/12/2020 21:54

My update is that the shark went down as one of the best presents this year. DD is using it as a huge cushion on her bed.

Other DD got a cheap version of air pods as a surprise and she loves them too. The instructions are badly translated so working out the different taps for controls have been fun but they work really well and the noise cancelling aspect is brilliant! Just wish they'd stop her singing along in her room too. WinkGrin

My update is my DH loved his slanket (which I didn't expect) but has hardly been able to get near it, because (as predicted) DD and DDog love it more

Happyinheels · 27/12/2020 11:52

I realise I'm late to the party but hope it's still ok to share.

I put together a box of books for my DP - the idea was for it to be 'a book a month for a year' but I got a bit carried away when I had to visit Waterstones for the last 3 and instead came out with 8!

I tried to get a wide variety of genres - so a few classics, politics, a science one, a few hobbies like walking and climbing, a funny one and some poetry and quotation books.
Then I wrote an inscription in each book, wrapped each one in a different paper and made a box for them all to go in together.

My DP was so overwhelmed and moved by the gift and said it's the most thoughtful gift he's ever received 🙌🏼

My update is that DD loves her sewing machine! She is learning very quickly, and I have had to brush up on my rudimentary skills to get her started.
I am very impressed with the machine, it is the Midi one from Hobbycraft. It does everything it needs to and is the perfect size for her!

XJerseyGirlX · 27/12/2020 14:44

I'm a bit late to the party too . But I bought dh a really nice cooking knife ( at his request). He opened it , said " ooh Ill go and try it out now " and proceeded to the kitchen where he pulled out the sausages for pigs in blankets and cut his finger so bad that it required stitches!!

Witchend · 27/12/2020 15:04

My 17yo has a special teddy that I've looked for a replacement for years. Not only did one come up on ebay in November, but there was a tiny version with it.
Dh said "she's 17! she'll think you've cracked."

She has been walking round with all three under her arm. It's lovely to see her behaving with pleasure at something so little. She's been a stroppy non-speaking teenager for most of this year, and it's nice to have a glimpse of the delightful young lady she really is.

Yutes · 05/01/2021 18:14

I’ve missed out on giving some gifts because the 5 day bubble changed. But I can’t wait until I get to give some of these gifts. It will be amazing

Soozikinzii · 06/01/2021 11:16

My husband was delighted with his microlight pilots lesson although obviously it will be a long time until he can use it !
