Is there a particular present you bought for someone this year that you just can’t wait to give them?
And if so what is it and why?

A sewing machine for my DD, age 10. She has no idea she is getting it. I am pretty sure that she will be delighted 😀

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 18/12/2020 14:43

A fake cute avocado print oodie for DD 13. She hasn’t asked for it, I’m not sure she’s even come across oodies (fake or otherwise) yet, but she loves warm fluffy things and she loves cute kawaii things. I’m pretty sure she’ll spend the whole Christmas period wearing it.

I’ve loved reading these, thanks for your replies!

For my DP a phone
And my ds an electric scooter. He’s going to be so, so happy 🥰

Pearsapiece · 18/12/2020 17:37

For ds, a balance bike. He's going to be so happy bless him.

For dh a yoga mat so we can yoga together (he's been using a towel for ages) and a bike pizza cutter which is a joke between us!

eliphanbee · 18/12/2020 17:44

A chromebook for an elderly relative whi lives alone..he has an old slow laptop at the moment, so will hopefully make his life easier!

DipSwimSwoosh · 18/12/2020 17:44

Lovely thread.
So many for me but I think the top ones are

  • 2nd hand Sylvanian Families for my 2 year old, sourced by dh!
  • a framed photo of my sis with my dcs for me sis
Mumto3thatsme · 18/12/2020 17:45

Dd3 has been asked Santa to bring her a frozen electric toothbrush, she’ll be getting that, but I think she’ll love her dolls highchair and cradle more.

Codswallop20 · 18/12/2020 20:20

We've had a really tough year with my youngest DD, health problems and several emergency surgeries. All is absolutely fine now but Dsis has been my rock.

She dropped everything to be there for me and I can't thank her enough.

She has zero idea I have bought her an absolutely beautiful Tiffany necklace. I can't wait to see her face, she truly deserves it and wouldn't expect such a gift in a million years.

I would give her the moon if I could, I love her so much

Nutrigrainygoodness · 18/12/2020 20:37

A few years ago I bought my mum a vase in a charity shop, she fell in love with it, but she had no cash on her and the shop didnt take card. So I bought it for her. She doesn't get flowers very often (only birthday and mother's day), and she won't buy her own so I've decided this year she will get a bouquet of flowers once a month for a year.
Havent quite decided how to do it yet, but I know she will love it.

mogtheexcellent · 18/12/2020 20:43

Two of DDs presents I worked hard on. I've made a wardrobe for my DDs Lottie dolls. DFIL helped by adding a rod to a jewellery box, DF made hangers out of paper clips and ribbon and I have designed and painted it.

I also bought a second hand micro scooter and have replaced all the worn parts with new plus I gave it a bubble bath to remove dirt.

Dd asked for the wardrobe but has no idea about the scooter. Hoping she is surprised. Smile

Walkingthedog46 · 18/12/2020 20:52

Nutrigrainygoodness - what a fabulous and thoughtful idea! Your Mum will be thrilled.

Dimpous · 18/12/2020 20:53

@Nutrigrainygoodness look at bloom and wild, they are a bit pricey but my DH brought me a subscription last year and it was the best present I ever received. Such I lovely idea! I was sad when it ended, he hasn't quite got the hint to get me another one! My sister has used Freddie's flowers and rates them too xx

Dimpous · 18/12/2020 20:55

I can't wait to give my DD3 a dressing table for her bedroom with a light up mirror she will adore it! I've got her some play make up (wooden) and a lovely Jewellery box to go on it. I know she will love it!

AppleStars · 18/12/2020 21:00

Socks with the cats face on, for DP. Christmas present from the cat, obviously.

Asiama · 18/12/2020 21:07

For FIL, a calendar with photos of DS every month (at his request). He will find out he's going to become a grandad again when he sees that we have written the due date on the calendar.

fussygalore118 · 18/12/2020 21:08

I cant wait to give my daughter a dyson air wrap.. she's been saving hard for one and has absolutely no clue we've bought it! :)

majesticallyawkward · 18/12/2020 21:15

Probably the least exciting things I've bought, my mum rarely asks for anything (and the one thing she asked for won't arrive on time 🤦‍♀️) but I found a gorgeous top in a style and colour I think she'll love. I never get to surprise her so I'm oddly excited to be able to give her something she isn't expecting.

ClearingSpaceOnTheTrophyShelf · 18/12/2020 21:17

Aw! What a gorgeous thread. Thank you. Is it too early to nominate for classics @mnhq?

Ok. Shush 🤫 don't tell anyone. But I'm RIDICULOUSLY excited about this.

My DH claims there is a draught from upstairs, and wants to get a curtain for the stairs (open plan living room). I've said absolutely not. It'll just get manky.
So I've brought him a slanket. The same colour as his eyes.
He will LOATHE it. But secretly, he'll adore it. But he will never get to use it, because DD and DDog will both instantly steal it. This will enrage him, but he won't be able to say a word because officially he'll hate it.

Every time I think about it, I laugh out loud!

A gorgeous doll's pram for my 9yo DD (she still loves her baby dolls). She saw the pushchair version in a shop a little while ago and was feeling sad the other day that she'd missed it off her Christmas list. I can't wait to see her face when she opens it!

SpinningBob · 18/12/2020 21:48

The Harry Potter Lego set of Diagon Alley for Dd(8)-she has been collecting it all for 3 years now,and plays with it all almost daily too! Every Christmas and birthday she saves any money from family ,and does her chores happily to earn pocket money to buy Lego- she has been saving so hard for so long for this ridiculously expensive set (£370). She is a lovely sweet girl, polite and helpful and kind to her younger sister and new baby brother and said she knew she couldn’t possibly ask for it as it was too expensive ,and we had to buy for the other two as well. She has been searching online ever hopeful that it goes on sale cheaper (unlikely!). DH had bought it a couple of
months ago. She will be utterly blown away and I’m fully expecting her to be overwhelmed with it with a high chance of tears- so we are saving it as the last gift after her presents from Santa and few other gifts from us. Dd(5) has been desperately hoping for the wee Fire Spirt toy from Frozen 2 that you feed ice chips into its mouth, she will be delighted with that....and ds(5months) is getting a lion clock with a swishing tail pendulum for his room which will keep him entertained as he is mesmerised by the bird one his sister has. This thread has made me feel the most Christmassy I’ve felt yet,all the lovely wee faces-such a nice thing to look forward to and hopefully bring some much needed cheer to the end of this year.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 18/12/2020 21:53

Mario Bros. Lego for my 5 yr old nephew. I think he’s going to love it.

exitlight · 18/12/2020 21:57

I’ve got my brother colour correcting glasses for his colour blindness - I’m beyond excited to see if they work and whether the world looks different for him

CoodleMoodle · 18/12/2020 22:00

DD(6): Scooby Doo Playmobil. And the pink version of two soft toys she already has and adores.

DS(2): Scooter. Or two huge Hot Wheels monster trucks (he always asks to "take it home" if he sees one in a shop)!

DH: Back to the Future puzzle in a VHS style case. Mainly because it took ages to come back in stock.

DM: We got her a subscription to Ancestry. She already knows about that, so for Christmas I bought her a roll of paper because she said she wanted to write things down on one. I've wrapped it up in the shape of a cracker. It's silly but hopefully she'll laugh!
