Is there a particular present you bought for someone this year that you just can’t wait to give them?
And if so what is it and why?

My dad has dementia and it's quickly getting worse. He was talking about some aftershave he loved (from 20 + years ago) a few weeks back so I've found it for him.

Can't wait

Upthread I nominated a guinea-pig facemask as the most apt gift I was giving this year. I was pairing it with a guinea-pig bauble.
My friend has just texted to say she is on the way to the vets with her beloved piggy, which may well have to be put down. Now the gift looks like rubbing salt in the wounds.

@EssentialHummus

A book of sex positions for DH, at his request!
I’ve done similar. I’ve bought my partner something for me to wear, no idea when we’ll actually get to use it, so its probably quite cruel!

My son has been asking for a pokemon skateboard for ages, so I bought one and a very arty friend did the painting underneath, complete with a pokemon helmet cover.

I can see that my 12 year old dd has been looking at a gay pride backpack on amazon but she would never ask us for it so I've bought it and put in it a load of accessories with the pride rainbow on. I hope she will know that it's ok, we know and she doesn't need to come out to us or anything.

You are just Star your daughter is so lucky and you will make her year.

My children both asked for an apple pen and an oodie. They have both, my youngest still does that adorable shaky thing when she opens presents

SinkGirl · 21/12/2020 14:25

My twins are autistic and one is visually impaired. He’s not very interested in toys generally but I read abut the Fisher Price Rocktopus and thought it looked ideal. But I think it’s been discontinued. Ended up buying one from a seller in America which just turned up this weekend. I think he will love it.

DT1 is non verbal but obsessed with Maps, alphabets and numbers. I’ve got him a globe which the countries slot into (like a plastic inset puzzle), and an inset puzzle of his name so hopefully he can learn to read and write it. Also a magnetic set of small bits that make up letters which I’m sure he will love

DT2 is also in love with Hey Duggee - I suspect the singing stick will be a big hit (and drive me insane). But his favourite thing will probably be dairy free chocolate covered raisins!

This thread has got me all teary and extra excited for Christmas, especially your post @Thehogfatherstolemycurry, I'd love to see her reaction when she opens it.

Dd (2.5) is such an excitable little creature, i can't wait to see her reaction to all her presents.
Ds (8) has mentioned a few times he'd like a microscope but the ones he was eyeing in the catalogue was way too pricey for us this year unfortunately, but, I found a microscope and telescope set in home bargains which he'll no doubt lose his mind at and santa even brought him a science knowledge encyclopedia he's been eyeing up since his birthday last year.
Ds (6) his pokemon plushes.

Osquito · 21/12/2020 14:32

A pair of boots to partner. He bought the same pair 10 yrs ago, and loves them and always goes on the brand site to check if they sell them again. They’re no longer made, but I found ONE new pair in his size from a deadstock dealer on eBay, and they cost me most of my Christmas spending budget but I’m thrilled to see his face on the morning!

Osquito · 21/12/2020 14:34

@SendHelp30

I’ve got my 3yo DS an underwater disco light and I really can’t wait to see his face, I’ll probably cry!! He is quite severely disabled and is at his happiest in water & he loves bright, disco lights so this will be a dream come true for him! He only has a few single words so won’t be able to tell me he loves it but I know his huge smile and laugh will no doubt bring me to tears!
This is such a good idea - one of my twins is a water baby too now (hated water until earlier this year and now loves it, and has started swimming at school is apparently overjoyed every time). Will have to get one!
BarryTheKestrel · 21/12/2020 14:37

2 things I've got DH that he has no idea about. A limited edition framed print of his favourite bands artwork and a hand turned and waxed vape build stand. He will adore them both, I'm so excited to see him open them!

TheChosenTwo · 21/12/2020 14:38

Oh no @Scarby9 - talk about bad timing Sad Hope it’s okay and you can still give your very thoughtful presents.

CaptainMyCaptain · 21/12/2020 14:39

I commissioned a portrait of our dog for my husband using a local artist who was on an online Christmas Market. It's in a modern colour block type style and it is her to a tee.

Changechangychange · 21/12/2020 14:40

Fins for DS3. He found a blue glittery adult-sized one on the beach over summer and was entranced by it. I have found a blue child-sized pair. He loves swimming anyway, and is going to love how fast he goes with fins on.

Annoyingly we are now Tier 4 so won’t get to use them for a bit.

DigOutThoseLemonHandWipes · 21/12/2020 14:43

A Lute to Ukele music book for DH. He has been learning to play the uke for a couple of years and has an interest in medieval music so combining to two should make him happy. Maybe one day I will have a wedge of spare money and I'll be able to get him the early guitar (gitten) that he coverts but for now it's way out of my league.

SinkGirl · 21/12/2020 14:45

[quote BlooBagoo]This for DD. It's going to be a bitch to wrap but I can't wait to see her face even before she opens it.

We have this - makes a great cushion! Hope she loves it

kittensarecute · 21/12/2020 14:47

I've got my dad Bill Bailey's new book, he loved watching him on Strictly 🙂

MustBeThursday · 21/12/2020 14:54

For the DC, cuddly Snowgies (from Frozen Fever). We were late to the game with frozen and they watch Frozen Fever over and over but I rarely see any merchandise for it as it's a short.

Other than that, DF will be getting a surprise scalextric because he's a big kid at heart so I'm looking forward to seeing his face!

SingToTheSky · 21/12/2020 14:59

I know my DCs will love their presents but I’m most excited for DH to open his main present. It’s a framed map of the stars from England on the day we met. He’s a soppy git who loves space/stargazing.

SelfieNameChange · 21/12/2020 15:00

Artwork commissions are such brilliant gifts. There’s an artist who’s really well known online for their funny pieces done using Microsoft Paint. DH has been a fan for years and I bought him his book and other bits in the past.

For DH’s 40th I grovelled to the poor guy until he agreed I could commission a “painting” of DH holding our kids in a trashed version of our living room - there’s paint everywhere, stuff on fire, smashed mirrors, one of them is holding a paintbrush and the other holding a lighter. It’s easily the best gift I’ve ever got him and he couldn’t believe it when he opened it as the artist doesn’t do commissions very often. Never seen him cry over a gift before! It has pride of place in our lounge and everyone loves it when they come round.

For Christmas I’ve got him a couple of the same artist’s prints which he will love, but one will have to go in our room as it’s quite political and unflattering to some, and may offend 😬

Tent log burner, because we can go out camping with heated tents together, with my other present these amazing snow boots as winter is the best camping time-

What present are you most excited to give this year and why?
Jemimapuddleduk · 21/12/2020 15:04

Someone local made the most beautiful set of 5 custom made sleeping bags with padding and zips for dd’s our generation dolls. They are all in different fabrics. I know dd will be absolutely delighted.
Ds has autism and is really tricky to buy for. We’ve got him a bubble helicopter which I think he will absolutely love and a mariokarts remote control car.
We can’t see my mum and dad this years they are shielding so I’ve bought them lots of little treats. My mum will love the marzipan fruits I got her and the Charlotte tilbury eye shadow.
I’m so excited!

eeiizzol · 21/12/2020 15:05

For DH Remy Martin XO cognac fine champagne. He asked I said no.... but I was always going to get him it. He's the type of person who doesn't need or want anything. The first time he actually suggested something. So I bought.

Pumpkinstace · 21/12/2020 15:05

A switch for my 7 year old DD.

She asked for one on her list and I had a chat with her.

I explained Santa doesn't bring those type of gifts and it's far too expensive for mummy to buy (we are poor so she accepted this without question) but if we saved really hard we could maybe afford one in time for her (autumn) birthday.

She dealt with the disappointment so well I'm super excited.

Holothane · 21/12/2020 15:08

Please please every post after when people have got their gifts I can’t wait to hear the happy reactions.
