What are you all doing for NYE?

We usually host on New Years but obviously can’t this year. We were thinking of going out for dinner with some friends but we’re Tier 2 so can’t sit together unless it’s outside. DP then suggested we go out for dinner just us but with the 11pm curfew I think it would feel a bit weird getting home just before midnight.

I think it might end up being a night in with M&S party food. Anyone got any exciting plans/ideas?

Nothing. I heard there is a bug going around.

Hmm
MaverickDanger · 03/12/2020 23:42

We’ll have a newborn so probably a buffet tea and sleep when we can.

We were in bed by 9.30 last year as had travelled back from abroad, and were up at 6am the next morning with jet lag to drive back home, so it’s a good thing I’ve never been a fan of New Year.

We’ve always had a big family Christmas and a low key New Year just the two of us, so will be nice to have a chilled Christmas period all the way through getting to grips with being parents.

Stay home. Watch telly. Eat.

There's still a pandemic.

Most of the time we're normally in and have some nice ready meals or a simple but tasty meal around 8pm.

However, we don't know yet if DD is working yet, so one of us may be on pick up at 10pm. That could change things from a light tea and then some nice snacks around 10.30pm. Also, friends want to do something on zoom with our families, and not sure when that'll be.

FizzyPink · 04/12/2020 11:02

Gosh there are some real miseries on this thread! I realise there’s a pandemic on and wasn’t suggesting we all start hosting massive parties, just wondering what people had planned to do at home.

I love the idea of dinner at a Romanian restaurant and will definitely be purchasing a bingo game which should be straightforward enough for the grandparents to join in with over Christmas

Watch childfriendly movies while eating lots of oven party food, then opening the prosecco when DS1 falls asleep Smile

Really looking forward to it!

Nothing. I heard there is a bug going around.

It's like the millennium am over again

@CherryPavlova

Hosting a party for fifty. Black tie, fizz and canapés. Dancing and racing. A harp choir. Fireworks. Breakfast at 2, carriages at 3.
Ah, excellent. And will this be in Playmobil, or Fuzzy Felt?
Megan2018 · 04/12/2020 12:45

Absolutely nothing, I love Christmas but we’ve always hated New Year. We’ll just watch TV/Film and be in bed before 12. I just don’t see it worth staying up for Blush

BecomeStronger · 04/12/2020 12:50

Last year 18yo DS1 was delivered home at 10:30 barely conscious, by three young people he'd never met before and to whom I am enternally grateful, so at least that shouldn't happen this year.

TBF to him, he's barely had a drink since, lesson appears to have been learned, but I often think about the wonder of those young people (so often criticised) who broke away from their own celebrations to save him. I do think they probably saved his life. If he'd tried to make his own way home along country lanes it doesn't bear thinking about.

I shall be glad of a quiet one this year Grin

trevthecat · 04/12/2020 12:52

Same as every year, long walk in the day, kids to bed, pjs, nice food, cheese and crackers etc nice wine, fire on and TV! We are already talking about what treats to get!

LegoPandemic · 04/12/2020 13:07

Meeting friends for a walk during the day.
Home for champagne, oven party food, a film and bed before midnight. Tier 3.
We normally have a houseful of friends and play murder mystery- last time it was just us it was 2010 so it’ll be strange but OK.

midnightstar66 · 04/12/2020 13:22

I'll be on my own. Dc will be at their dads for the first time, we usually go out to a child friendly restaurant then back to friends so no idea not that's not an option this year anyway . Probably just sitting alone drinking wine lol

userxx · 04/12/2020 15:18

@BecomeStronger Bless him, its enough to be put off for life.

God, you're dull. Nobody is hosting an extravagant party for 50 during a pandemic. How can you post shite like that and expect to be taken seriously?
I get that it's part of your schtick to post imaginary snobby bullshit but you just sound unhinged sometimes.

Jesus, lighten up!

I can't believe some handwringers are taking Cherrypavlova seriously.

Well, I was.
I'd always wondered what members of the Round Table did for New Year's Eve, when dolled up in their hostess gowns from Debenhams and getting out their silver plated serviette rings.
Always tricky getting Kevin's blue velvet jacket and waterfall shirt front pressed properly, I imagine.

unmarkedbythat · 08/12/2020 13:19

What we always do. Everyone chooses what they want for tea, extremely cheesy disco with the kids, anyone who can last can stay up for the fireworks on tv, then me and DH drink knock off fizzy wine and either fall asleep in a heap or get romantic and fall asleep in a heap. I really love our new years eve but I know most people would find it distinctly underwhelming!

todayIdrankmilk · 12/12/2020 13:17

I will be in bed asleep.

Besom · 12/12/2020 13:28

We usually go to a party or go away with friends but this year it will board games probably. Maybe zooming some folk. We will have steak pie on the 1st as is traditional.

MsTSwift · 12/12/2020 13:31

Lovely big party with local families so young teens enjoy it too. All crammed in then we all watch the fireworks at midnight and hug and kiss everyone. Oops that was 2019 (although dh was at home last NYE with a mystery illness)....

This year ? Dunno. Not much!

Reallybadidea · 12/12/2020 13:42

On call. What fun.

MovinOnUp · 12/12/2020 13:46

The DC are away at their Father's house, So it will be just me and DP.

We are going to go to bed (Clean sheets, Candles on) with a bottle of champagne and a tray of lovely snacks and watch Jools Holland then have sex.

gerbo · 12/12/2020 17:46

I think New Years is for those in their 20s/30s really, since having children it has been good food, drink, and bed at 1030!

We've had our share of club/fireworks/house parties!

This year will be a special tapas feast with the kids, indulgent pud, telly and chocolates, kids to bed at 9, we'll be tucked in by 11. Bliss.

MsTSwift · 13/12/2020 07:17

Nye resurrects once kids older. My parents have amazing nyes.

Frownette · 13/12/2020 07:23

Home in the warm, nice food, countdown at midnight whilst watching the fireworks on tele, text all friends.

Will they do a replay of last year's if they can't do them this year?

Sexnotgender · 13/12/2020 07:26

Nothing. Will be 26 weeks pregnant so probably sleeping 😂

I’ll make some nice food but that’s about all.
