What are you all doing for NYE?

We usually host on New Years but obviously can’t this year. We were thinking of going out for dinner with some friends but we’re Tier 2 so can’t sit together unless it’s outside. DP then suggested we go out for dinner just us but with the 11pm curfew I think it would feel a bit weird getting home just before midnight.

I think it might end up being a night in with M&S party food. Anyone got any exciting plans/ideas?

It's my favourite night of the year, I love it. Will be doing the same as every year, at home. I do snacky food and drink, a lot. Hopefully my husband will be on the morning shift so home by 6 latest, not be on the evening shift and home around 11. If he is I'll be on my own until he gets in. Can't wait, especially this year

Simplyunacceptable · 03/12/2020 14:02

Last year we took DC to an aquarium during the day then trampolining in the evening. We went home for pizza take out and watched a Studio Ghibli film. Let them stay up till midnight for the first time and we watched the fireworks outside. It was pleasant enough and we’ll probably do something similar this year, perhaps minus the trampolining...

Bluesheep8 · 03/12/2020 14:10

*We’re in tier 3. There’s nothing we can do...

There's plenty to be done, I'm thinking of going to the local park with 6 friends, maybe get a few bottles of thunderbirds just for old time sake, and behaving like teenagers. Can't wait.*

I thought there was no mixing indoors or outdoors in Tier 3

Hosting a party for fifty. Black tie, fizz and canapés. Dancing and racing. A harp choir. Fireworks. Breakfast at 2, carriages at 3.
😂 Good one! Where is this mythical non lockdown land please @CherryPavlova?

A harp choir! Carriages! It sounds like a beautiful fairytale fairy 🧚 🙂

Think it’s frowned upon to take a 7, 5 and 1 year old to sit in the park drinking bottles of thunderbird, and it’s not like I can get a babysitter.

AriesTheRam · 03/12/2020 14:18

@HerFlowersToLove I feel.like that too but I also don't know why! I could be the pressure to have an amazing time who knows but the whole night has gonna funny air to it imo

StormBaby · 03/12/2020 14:22

We went out for dinner just us two years ago and you are right, it was weird. We were back home by 11pm.

You're wrong.

However, you can see friends and family you do not live with (or do not have a support bubble with) in some outdoor public places, in a group of up to 6. This limit of 6 includes children of any age.

These outdoor public places include:

parks, beaches, countryside accessible to the public, forests
public gardens (whether or not you pay to enter them)
allotments
the grounds of a heritage site
outdoor sports courts and facilities
playgrounds

Night in for DH and I for the first time in years. Funnily enough, last year we didn’t really enjoy NYE and we both said maybe we’d have a quiet one this year!

@HerFlowersToLove I feel the same. We normally go out on NYE and we have a pleasant enough time. But I just find the whole evening quite sad and strange.

I’ve never been sure why. I think it’s maybe because I’m a huge Christmas lover so NYE/NYD sort of marks the end of the festive period (and yes I know it technically lasts til 6th Jan but I’m not religious). I find it even worse when I’m back in work on 2nd Jan!

Driving past houses on New Years Day and seeing unlit Christmas lights and sad-looking Christmas trees in the windows makes me feel incredibly depressed Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 03/12/2020 14:53

Working.
It will be an odd one this year as we would normally be absolutely manic. It remains to be seen how it will pan out.
Previously we have either gone to our local pub or stayed in with M&S party food, so hardly wild party central even when we were allowed.

😂😂😂 Yeah so you are

stressfullday · 03/12/2020 14:58

I'll be asleep in bed on nye

Echobelly · 03/12/2020 15:00

I think of trying a Zoom just with some close friends - we actually did a really successful Zoom party for my birthday last month and one friend commented she hadn't had so much fun for ages, so it can be done. A little (but not too much) structure seems to help, and not too long. So we might have to start at about 10.30 earliest if we want to run to midnight

AuntieMarys · 03/12/2020 15:06

Hopefully the theatre.

AlternativePerspective · 03/12/2020 15:08

Have never bothered doing anything for new year. I remember as a child the first time I was allowed to stay up, I thought that something amazing happened at midnight, it was such an anti climax. Grin

This year it’s just me and DS anyway, I’ll probably be in bed early, the new year tv is usually not even good enough to be shite. Grin

movingonup20 · 03/12/2020 15:08

Not even going to waste time thinking about it, if we have been released from curfew aka tier 3 we'll go out for dinner I suppose

Glenthebattleostrich · 03/12/2020 15:11

Couple of very good bottles of red, a charcuterie board and a couple of good films.

There was talk of a zoom party but frankly I'm over them!

Ifailed · 03/12/2020 15:22

Going to bed at the usual time and then being woken up at midnight by local selfish bastards letting of fireworks.

BullshitVivienne · 03/12/2020 16:04

I'm performing in the harp choir at some snobby lady's party.

namechangefail2020 · 03/12/2020 16:12

Hopefully having more fun than most of the miseries on this thread 😂

CherryPavlova · 03/12/2020 16:22

Excellent. Can you wear dark green, to compliment the gallery decorations, please?
CreditScoreOfaHomelessGhost · 03/12/2020 16:28

I think Vivienne was talking about my party. I'm hosting 100 in my ballroom.

CovidPostingName · 03/12/2020 16:45

Same as we always do on most normal Saturday nights - Chinese takeaway but with a couple of bottles of fizz, watch a film, go to bed as usual. NYE is nothing special to me.

CherryPavlova · 03/12/2020 16:45

What fun! We’re struggling a little with the cloakroom arrangements and risk of Covid covered garments, what are your footmen doing?
