What are you all doing for NYE?

We usually host on New Years but obviously can’t this year. We were thinking of going out for dinner with some friends but we’re Tier 2 so can’t sit together unless it’s outside. DP then suggested we go out for dinner just us but with the 11pm curfew I think it would feel a bit weird getting home just before midnight.

I think it might end up being a night in with M&S party food. Anyone got any exciting plans/ideas?

@Springersrock

We’re going to a local restaurant that is owned by a Romanian family

Romania is 2 hours ahead of us so they’re doing the NYE thing at 10pm

This is such a good idea

@Izzabellasasperella of course! I do it regularly to watch the sunrise. Not just Snowdon but the surrounding ones. Can be too busy!

Tearsofthemushroom · 03/12/2020 19:51

We hike a couple of miles in the dark up to a local beauty spot with a great view and watch the New Year come in from there.

Staying in, watching TV or reading a book. Drinking some wine , watching other people's fireworks out of the window while comforting the dog .

I'd like to say we cancelled our exciting entertainment due to Covid but that's pretty much normal .

SleepingStandingUp · 03/12/2020 19:57

@CherryPavlova

Hosting a party for fifty. Black tie, fizz and canapés. Dancing and racing. A harp choir. Fireworks. Breakfast at 2, carriages at 3.
For my birthday?? I feel so special. Thank you. There better be lots of Pavlova to eat
Pootle40 · 03/12/2020 19:59

Hate new year - what a pile of crap.

SleepingStandingUp · 03/12/2020 20:01

But it's my birthday

Deelish75 · 03/12/2020 20:09

Tier 3 so the usual family meal at a restaurant with my dad and his partner is out. We’ll probably get a takeaway, then once the DC are in bed, watch tv, drink a bit of wine and probably go to bed about 11.
We normally have PIL over on NYD for a roast and to celebrate DD’s birthday (first week of Jan) we won’t be able to do that but probably still do the roast (CD, NYD and Easter are the only times I cook a roast, wouldn’t feel right not to)

userxx · 03/12/2020 20:54

@SleepingStandingUp There's room on the park bench for you, I'll even let you have a swig of my thunderbirds, I'll make it a birthday you'll never forget.

LadyofMisrule · 03/12/2020 21:02

We normally host the big NYE party with friends. This year will be a takeaway, a family film and a quiet drink of fizz.

WashingMachineCrisis · 03/12/2020 21:19

I’m looking forward to this NYE for the first time in ages. I finally became free of my moody, useless STBXH this year, so me and my little boy will be cosied together in our tiny (but lovely) little home with games, drink and snacks. We’ll go to bed around 21:00 if he can stay up that late. We bed share and there’s nothing better than breathing in that gorgeous smell of a young child when cuddling up at night Flowers

I have a feeling 2021 will be a good year and I can’t stop smiling because I’m finally so happy Smile

It’s nice to read something so positive. I hope you enjoy your evening.

@WashingMachineCrisis Lovely post. I'm not overly fussed about New Years even but I love New Year's Day, to me it's a sign of new beginnings. Sounds like you're well on your way to yours 👍

I'm classy, I'm not sitting on your bench drinking cider. I'm going to Pavlova's because SHE'S throwing me a PROPER party

(Huffs off but not before sending @WashingMachineCrisis a squishy new start hug)

ListeningQuietly · 03/12/2020 21:56

At 11pm I will mourn all that the UK is losing

at midnight I will drink fizzy wine, watch the fireworks
and pray for calm in the year to come

NorbertMeubles · 03/12/2020 21:59

Nothing.

Having an early night, I find NY depressing.

catnoir1 · 03/12/2020 22:34

I'll be phoning a takeaway

pringlebells · 03/12/2020 22:37

Night in, chippy, films with DH and DS (1y/o)

MadameTuffington · 03/12/2020 22:57

What an interesting thread - so various!

When I was in my twenties (pre kiddies) this was my fav night of the year - Trafalgar Sq, raves in warehouses/fields/clubs but alas, I’m boring now - I normally have mates over, one year I hosted a house party for my then 16 yr old - never again!

I am doing a 12-hr shift this year 😃 - at 8pm I will be chilling with my 3 kids, some home cooked food and house rabbit Frank 🤩

This is fab - I hope you have a lovely night 🌸🌺🌸

Kids off to bed nice and early, then crack open a bottle of prosecco and eat our own weight in m&s party food. Might play a board game or watch a movie.

I think we will have a nice new year's Day walk and I'll cook something special. I'm quite looking forward to it actually.
