What are you all doing for NYE?

We usually host on New Years but obviously can’t this year. We were thinking of going out for dinner with some friends but we’re Tier 2 so can’t sit together unless it’s outside. DP then suggested we go out for dinner just us but with the 11pm curfew I think it would feel a bit weird getting home just before midnight.

I think it might end up being a night in with M&S party food. Anyone got any exciting plans/ideas?

Tier 2 - staying in

Chloemol · 02/12/2020 20:54

I will be doing nothing, hopefully will be in bed asleep i hate NYE

TheyPavedParadise · 02/12/2020 20:54

Currently tier 3 despite my town having a grand total of 54 cases per 100k of the population. So nothing.

Staying in on my own and having an early night. I have never been keen on NYE anyway.

CurlsandCurves · 02/12/2020 20:54

DH is usually working but won’t be this year coz of Covid. He usually DJs.

First one since he was about 18 he’s not worked.

So we will probably get a takeaway and have a family night in.
@CherryPavlova can I come to yours? I'll organize the scavenger hunt. 😁
Can you bring marshmallows for the Kadai too?

nosswith · 02/12/2020 20:57

Theatre. In tier 2 so able to go.

HoneyBee03 · 02/12/2020 21:11

We'll be having a few friends over for drinks and food (tier 1) but if we couldn't DH and I would be cooking a tasty dinner and making cocktails.

Gingernaut · 02/12/2020 21:12

Fuck all. And I'll love it.

SimonJT · 02/12/2020 21:16

My son is going to stay with his Grandma for two nights, so we’re having a couple of nights away in a cottage. My first child free night since last December, it will be the first time he has ever stayed away from me for two nights, so as much as it will be nice, it will be strange that he isn’t there.

Ragwort · 02/12/2020 21:18

Can't remember the last time I went out on NYE, must be at least 20 years ago Grin. Stay in, nice dinner, few glasses of wine/fizz ... same as every other night of this year ... may try and make an effort to stay up until midnight.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 02/12/2020 21:23

In Wales so likely not much, we do like to normally go out for lunch on NYE, which may still be possible but without the cocktail or glass of wine we’d normally treat ourselves to. Then back home for some nice picky bits and some fizzy (question - will there be a Jools’ Hootenanny??). I do like NYE and will look forward to saying good riddance to 2020 soon!

Happymum12345 · 02/12/2020 21:40

Hot chocolate and bed and hopefully thankful to survive the year.

lachy · 02/12/2020 21:45

Nowt.

We'll just curl up on the sofa, drink a bottle or two of good wine, eat all the leftover Christmas stuff and watch a film.

Can't be bothered with all of the enforced jollity of NYE anyway, so it suits me just fine that nothing will be happening.

tigger1001 · 02/12/2020 22:06

I am not a new year lover generally but I can't wait to see the back of this year so am planning some nice party food, music, games and lots and lots of gin!! My kids are keen to stay up for the bells so will make it as fun as I can for them.

Usually at mil on New Year's Day so don't drink much on Hogmanay but won't be doing that this year so might as well have a few on Hogmanay instead!

Holothane · 02/12/2020 22:09

Thank god I’m not the only one who hates new year, it’s the most awful night oh let’s be jolly, Christmas is over and bloody January is starting, let’s get drunk, if you don’t drink your a party pooper, never liked it even as a kid,

AriesTheRam · 02/12/2020 22:11

We're going to friends.I can't stand being in a minute longer.

Tatapie · 02/12/2020 22:18

Will there be any fireworks to watch on tv? Confused

YellowHighlighterPen · 02/12/2020 22:20

Bed at 10.30 with a sleeping tablet. I hate NYE. I hope yours goes really well thoughSmile

peboh · 02/12/2020 22:21

Sleeping. Dh is at work, so I'll spend my day following round the toddler, then once she's in bed grab a glass of wine and a book then probably fall asleep as soon as I get comfy in bed. Wine and cook forgotten.

CorianderQueen · 02/12/2020 22:26

Working and then working the 1st too. I always opt in so I get Xmas eve and Boxing Day off. Plus it's great not to wake up with a hangover in New Years

Amerimoon · 02/12/2020 22:28

Party in the house, just us! NYE is one of the nicest days of the year. It’s a family day without the expectations of Christmas.
Let the kids help set up a buffet. Usually a fondue. Disco lights, music on. Everyone dress up (I won’t go full on but the kids will). Play jenga, snap, jigsaws and Lego. Once they’re in bed, put all the outdoor lights on and jump in the hot tub with DH and a bottle of something bubbly. Maybe go back in, put a film on and pick at the buffet. We usually jump into bed with our glasses to cheers at midnight along with Jools Holland.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/12/2020 12:52

Nothing It's my birthday too!

HerFlowersToLove · 03/12/2020 12:56

I'm another one who hates NYE. For some reason, which I'm struggling to identify, it makes me feel really sad. So to answer the question, nothing.

OhToBeASeahorse · 03/12/2020 12:56

We will have a newborn and a toddler. After regretting being badgered into spending it at MILs 2 years ago with newborn DS, this year I am looking forward to being at home with DH and our children
