Metal loving MNetters rock on

DK123 · 29/11/2020 16:19

I thought it would be nice to start a thread for metal loving MNetters after speaking to @ApplesandAardvarks @NastyBlouse @IndemMUND about missed concerts. Great to find fellow Rammstein fans and metalheads!

Please join in if you love metal and enjoy going to concerts!

It'd be great if anyone wants to share info on new releases they've enjoyed, concert announcements, doesn't know many metallers and wants to link up with people going to a particular gig.

Let us know the last gig you went to and the ones you've missed this year or what new albums you've been enjoying recently!

The last gig I went to was 3teeth and I've been listening to the new songs from The Pretty Reckless and the new Katatonia release.

🖤🎸🤘🏻🎸🖤 Rock on everyone!

@wishywashywoowoo70 I do agree about the crowds. We normally go on the disabled platform but even so, trying to get out of the field in the dark afterwards can be pretty scary.

I wish there was more footage of the older shows which people who didn't get to go could watch.

The one band I am most disappointed I'll never be able to see is Type O Negative (don't know if there are any other fans here?) and I found a great video of them at Wacken 2007 on YouTube. They seem to have been very good live.

@indemMUND

I've found my people Grin

Last gig was Lindemann in London. My first ever afterparty. Incredible.

Did Rammstein in Berlin and MK last year.

Keeping everything crossed for rescheduled concerts next year!

Was this with or without Aesthetic Perfection?

Aesthetic Perfection were our last band. And we were meant to see a Skindred drive in gig in August but they were cancelled.

MondeoFan · 30/11/2020 22:41

Yay

Oh I really miss live gigs

Been to so many over the years

Ah, so this is where the Rammstein fans hang out! Another massive fan here - saw them for the second time at MK in 2019 and it was the best gig I've ever been too by far. I was gutted that this summer had to be cancelled. We have our tickets ready for next summer and am praying that it will go ahead. I am also in the queue to be the next Mrs Kruspe!

DK123 · 01/12/2020 00:33

@MumsDirtyTeaTowel oohhh I haven't heard anyone mention Aesthetic Perfection very often! If you like them you might like 3teeth? They were great in February and the last gig I went to!

@madaboutrunning oohh yes this is indeed where the Rammstein fans/LIFAD members congregate! They were fantastic at MK, I honestly think that was the best concert I've ever been to. I had a ticket for Coventry this year which was going to be the hilight of the year for me - so gutted it was postponed (hopefully just postponed not cancelled). Whilst all are most welcome and metallers unite, I must apologise for this, but....back of the queue re Herr Kruspe!! 😉

@PomBearWithoutHerOFRS

My pfb turned 30 this week, and we were supposed to be at HRH Vikings in Sheffield. We went last year and it was fab -Finntroll headlined! and I never thought I'd see them live cos they hardly ever come to the U.K.. This one has been rearranged for next December, so fingers crossed we will be there. Atorc will be there next year too Grin
I was supposed to be at HRH Viking for a birthday. I'm glad the lineup remained mostly the same for next year, sans Borknagar and Saor (which I'm sad about).

I have a bunch of gigs booked for next year to cheer me up, including Bloodstock and Beast in Black (in Vienna!) Currently eyeing up Behemoth tickets for October.

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 01/12/2020 02:45

@Pickypolly oh! The Mayfair! I saw Quireboys and Spike had the crowd singing Blaydon Races, and his Mam and Nanna were on the balcony. He told everyone not to swear cos they were there, and was so wasted he could barely stand Grin
I was also there at the Levellers gig where a young lad fell on the stairs and died though, that was so sad - his mates didn't know, and thought he was getting in trouble for his dope, so wouldn't admit knowing him when the police came Sad ,
And I still say Donington rather than Download, so much fun, so much mud!
The worst mud ever was GnR at Milton Keynes Bowl. We went to both days, got ourselves in the pit and had a ball. There was a young couple there, with two small (about 5/6) children, and, I shit you not, a massive wicker picnic hamper, in the pit! I'm the end, the stood the little ones on top of the hamper, which sank about 8 inches into the muck - I doubt the mum's Laura Ashley tea frock was ever the same again too! Grin
Happy times.

Pickypolly · 01/12/2020 06:59

Milton Keynes bowl!! I saw ZZ top there oh and iron maiden!
Think I might have seen Brian Adams and Free there too!!
Wonder what ever happened to my Donnington T shirts???

Catchytune · 01/12/2020 07:40

Me! First gig I ever saw was Dio at 14 - got a free ticket as my friend was doing school work experience for the local paper.
Gutted I never went to Donnington. Anyone remember “ Comic Strip Presents” with Adrian Edmunson and Rik Mayall being in the band Bad News? I would love to have seen that.

Best festival was Bloodstock ( got to go backstage as boyfriend was crew). So many good bands and such great atmosphere.
Best gig was between Motorhead in Portsmouth Guildhall and Royal Blood in Barcelona - tickets were €20 as opposed to £50 and I got to hold Mikes leg as he stood up on the barrier bit in front of the stage.

I saw Type O in 97 (98?) at Wolverhampton Civic Hall. They were amazing!

The best part of the day though was the signing they did at Mike Lloyds earlier in the day. I excitedly queued, but not far behind me was my goth nemesis from my hometown. I always thought she looked incredible but she looked down her nose at me and thought she was a cut above everyone else.

Anyway, when it was my turn to meet the band Kenny looked at me and told me I looked beautiful

It made my day and meant the hours I had spent crimping my hair and doing my make up was worth it. And other goth girl got to hear him say it too.

I’m sure he said it to every girl who was dolled up, but I like to imagine he only said it to me

It's a verrryyyyyyy long queue Sad but worth waiting, just in case! We can all dream Halloween Grin

nevergoingoutagain · 01/12/2020 10:40

Oooh dh just reminded me we have tickets for next year to see royal republic and skindred it'd better happen, 2 of my fave love bands!

SlippersForFlippers · 01/12/2020 11:29

I've seen skindred so many times, love them.

Benji has just released a childrens book, if I had children I'd buy it!

DK123 · 01/12/2020 16:03

@madaboutrunning it's definitely a long queue but I'm waiting in line 😉 just imagine a MN thread about our favourite Rammstein member. "I'm concerned by my DH. He often works away for his job - think similar to playing the banjo professionally. He's very popular in his niche (think angry Germans stomping and singing) and he has got women all over the world in love with him. I stumbled across some footage of his colleagues pretending to bum each other on stage. Some of their antics seem very crude and juvenile. I'm also worried he might get injured as they like to mess around with fire a lot. Should I LTB?"

@SingleHandSue I take my (black cowboy) hat off to you in awe at having seen Type O and having met Kenny Hickey. I hope in my next life I will be able to see them. They're one of my favourite bands and October Rust is one of my very favourite albums. Have you listened to Seventh Void? Or A Pale Horse Named Death? Neither compare to Type O but I like them both.

I wish we could all what each other looked like at the height of our gothness (if applicable)!

DBro was always into tock and I was always (more) into dance. However I did from him get a love of Metallica predominanty. Saw them at Glastonbury and they were so good!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 01/12/2020 16:30

I like Type O Neg as well. Peter Steele did a Playgirl centrefold once upon a time. It's a bit awkward...he seemed like quite a shy chap, but maybe not!

DK123 · 01/12/2020 16:48

@BobbinThreadbare123 I think he was quite shy and that led to a lot of his problems with drinking etc. I saw an interview where he said he was really chuffed doing the play girl centrefold because he thought he'd be oggled by lots of hot women and was devastated to find out it was mostly men admiring his physique 😂

Ha ha - fantastic! "I think he might be using my nail polish too..."

ratspeaker · 01/12/2020 17:34

Campervan is the way to go at Download but the tickets for it are like hens teeth.
They released them on the Monday end of Download 2019 as people were still queuing to get out the field. We stopped to get fuel and breakfast at Tesco in Uttoxeter and my daughter insisted we go online and buy them then. By the time we got back to Scotland they were sold out. Blessings on her for insisting

TurquoiseDragon · 01/12/2020 20:21

I can travel in to Download, i live about an hour away, or quicker on a good day. Upside is sleeping in my own bed, downside is I got to miss all the stuff that happened in the camp after the last acts. I think I'd like to try it with a campervan another time.

I haven't done too many gigs. I had an abusive ex, who made the Grinch look jolly. He hated me going off doing stuff, but I can at least make up for lost time when finances allow.

PopcornAndWine · 01/12/2020 21:10

@DK123 @TheOnlyMrsW so glad there are some more of us! I've loved them for years, since before the album Once came out. I saw them at various small venues in London and Manchester around that time and more recently at Wembley, MEN and headlining Bloodstock. The Wembley 2015 gig was the best concert I have ever been to!

DK123 · 01/12/2020 21:35

@PopcornAndWine I remember when Once came out! I think Angels Fall First was the album I listened to most often. I remember seeing them in around 2003 at Rock City Nottingham and in about 2005 in London.
Do you like Within Temptation at all? I listen to them quite a lot nowadays.

OP posts:
DK123 · 01/12/2020 21:41

@TurquoiseDragon also - similar situation re the ex, I missed out on going to gigs for a long time, then really made up for it all at once (including driving all over the country, sometimes by myself) but then Covid hit. Fingers crossed for next year!

@ratspeaker - your DD is a star for telling you to book for next time! Fingers crossed for next time. Whenever I walk back to the car through the bit with camper vans parked up, I think it could be far more fun to do that than to drive in every day.

@madaboutrunning when you next watch a video of Rammstein live and see Till with the giant penis foam cannon, remember - that guy is a grandad! Mad to think about it like that!
