Metal loving MNetters rock on

DK123 · 29/11/2020 16:19

I thought it would be nice to start a thread for metal loving MNetters after speaking to @ApplesandAardvarks @NastyBlouse @IndemMUND about missed concerts. Great to find fellow Rammstein fans and metalheads!

Please join in if you love metal and enjoy going to concerts!

It'd be great if anyone wants to share info on new releases they've enjoyed, concert announcements, doesn't know many metallers and wants to link up with people going to a particular gig.

Let us know the last gig you went to and the ones you've missed this year or what new albums you've been enjoying recently!

The last gig I went to was 3teeth and I've been listening to the new songs from The Pretty Reckless and the new Katatonia release.

🖤🎸🤘🏻🎸🖤 Rock on everyone!

Can I join? Didn't know there were other metallers on MN Smile any other Nightwish fans?

Blughbablugh · 30/11/2020 16:56

@DeathMetalMum I went to the Birmingham date of the Alter Bridge/Shinedown tour. I absolutely adore Alter Bridge and it just so happened it was on my birthday. Best birthday ever! This year is going to be so rubbish in comparison seen as we are in Tier 3 and I'm also pregnant, which is lovely but feeling it at the moment and can't have a few wines. I love Tremonti as well and Myles solo stuff. Hoping for another Myles solo album soon.

Did anyone go to Slash/Myles Kennedy in 2012/13? I went to Blackpool to see them. Absolutely amazing!

Bobbin we saw them at Doncaster I think. Not sure of the year.

TheOnlyMrsW · 30/11/2020 17:37

we stay in a hotel - too much of a wuss to camp!!!! we're booked into the Priest House next year with DD as well...........really looking forward to Biffy, Volbeat, Myles Kennedy twice, The Pretty Reckless, Daughtry and Stone Broken. Was a bit gutted that Stone Broken and Those Damn Crows clash - but then worked out that Those Damn Crows are at Steelhouse so I won't miss out Grin.
Shinedown definitely better live than Alter Bridge - I love AB and Myles but there's very little audience interaction

blowinahoolie · 30/11/2020 17:47

No Magnum fans here then?🧐

blowinahoolie · 30/11/2020 17:48

Popcorn over here👌🙌 love love love Nightwish!

nevergoingoutagain · 30/11/2020 17:51

We saw Ramsteinn at Oslo last year...was so awesome! Much better than when we saw them at download. I was hoping to go download next year but Covid has left us skint so it's a no go. This year we have missed the wild hearts and the levellers so not so metal but we have had tickets to Ozzy forever(2 years?!) but all his health issues mean it's never happened sadly

Can't wait to get back to live music. I'd be happy with the joiners or engine rooms in Southampton, I don't even care if it's a big gig I just want to wear black and get sweaty!

Blughbablugh · 30/11/2020 18:11

@BobbinThreadbare123 I saw them in Nottingham. I think it was 2013.

DK123 · 30/11/2020 18:13

@BobbinThreadbare123 I've seen slash and myles Kennedy a few times, I think Download 2012 and since at Nottingham, Birmingham and other Downloads. I prefer them to Alterbridge nowadays

@PopcornAndWine Welcome!! Another Nightwish fan here! I've seen them twice. The first time was as teen at Rock City Nottingham in the early 2000s and we queued up afterwards to meet them, I was so excited!

Yes, we saw them in Leeds.

Also at Leeds; The Carnival of Madness - Shinedown, BSC, and Halestorm.
Loved Shinedown but BSC leave me cold, I think I've seen them five times now but they've never grown on me.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/11/2020 18:19

@blowinahoolie I like Magnum. Old school NWOBHM is awesome!

realunicorn · 30/11/2020 18:22

Can I join ... I'm more of a tag along to DH and 11 year old DD and even then I think the torch has well and truly been passed to DD- I miss live music but I feel like they are missing it more.

Our last gig was slipknot. All DD wants for Xmas is gig tickets which is hard when we have no idea when things will be normal again.

I'm fully expecting the things we have booked for the first half of next year being cancelled 😞

DK123 · 30/11/2020 18:23

@TheOnlyMrsW not a wuss at all! Festival camping is for only the most fearless! I drive in for Download and at some festivals I've slept in my car rather than camped. Download camp sites often turn into a bit of a mud landslide. A few years ago I had mates who'd come up from London for it and their tents had already been so submerged in liquid mud that they packed up and went home before the actual festival started. I felt very bad for them.

@realunicorn Welcome!! It's very nice to hear about DC wanting gig tickets for Christmas! I remember asking my DM and her having to phone up or buy them in the independent record store in town. Whilst this year has been awful for everyone and it's such a trivial thing to complain about, for me, missing the gigs has been the thing I've been most disappointed about - as opposed to holidays/eating out/parties. Gigs are definitely what I look forward to most!

@DK123

Music is her thing. All her friends listen to one d and other pop types but her playlist is slipknot, rammstien, AC/DC Marilyn Manson and then a few gentler bands like greenday lol.

Hoping when she moves up to year 7 she will find her tribe.

DH travelled to New Zealand to see Metallica and slipknot but it was cancelled - he still went as didn't want to waste the flights that we'd paid for and he had free accommodation with friends.

This is the first time in 15 years he hasnt had monthly gigs. We do a lot of comedy shows as well - I've definitely missed gigs and shows more than meals out. You don't realise how much of an escape live music is until your stuck in the house!

blowinahoolie · 30/11/2020 18:53

Bobbin DH has seen Bob for many years at his gigs, can't believe Magnum have been on the go for so long. Love their music. Often played full blast during the day 🤣

DK Have seen Nightwish several years ago in Glasgow, and also Depeche Mode in Edinburgh before that. Miss going out to gigs. Has been a long time.

TheOnlyMrsW · 30/11/2020 19:02

@DK123 we're the same, gigs are what we spend money on, I'm desperate to see them start up. @PopcornAndWine Nightwish fans here too, saw them at the Apollo and MEN and they suited the bigger stage

DK123 · 30/11/2020 19:09

@realunicorn that's wonderful! She's an absolute star! I am sure she will find her people. I don't know what form the modern/future equivalent of the skate park kid in a Slipknot hoodie and massive baggy jeans takes though! Music is such an important part of life and how I made a lot of my closest friends!
@Lighingupthesky hello and thank you for joining the thread!

I wonder how many MNetters were at Monsters of Rock! I didn't get to go when it was that but I did go to Ozzfest before it was Download. Wonderful memories of hearing the opening notes of Paranoid ringing out across the dark field. Still sends shivers down my spine thinking about it!
I did MOR when I was about 17 I think.
Whitesnake headlined with Aerosmith special guests. I bloody loved it.
Couldn't do download though it's too big and crowds like that aren't my thing these days

ratspeaker · 30/11/2020 19:47

I saw Myles Kennedy with Slash at Download and that got me into Alter Bridge.
Ive been lucky that Ive had campervan tickets every year for Download, slightly drier plus I'm too old for camping.
There's was one year my daughter was camping next to the van and the tent got blown down so she slept in the van cab.

My eldest has nearly forgiven me for turning up at the Lamb ofGod/Anthrax/Slayer gig inGlasgow in crocs. Nearly
I didn't realise I still had them on until I jumped out the van inScience Centre car park

wishywashywoowoo70 · 30/11/2020 19:50

Planet rockstock would have been this weekend. Have discovered some cracking bands there.
I'm so stuck in my big hair metal days it's good to find new bands.

SlippersForFlippers · 30/11/2020 21:41

I've done all kinds of camping at download, don't think I'd go on standard camping these days, I need more sleep than I used to.

DK123 · 30/11/2020 22:30

@ratspeaker crocs for Slayer is the best thing I've heard all day, that's priceless! Rock on!!
