Metal loving MNetters rock on

DK123 · 29/11/2020 16:19

I thought it would be nice to start a thread for metal loving MNetters after speaking to @ApplesandAardvarks @NastyBlouse @IndemMUND about missed concerts. Great to find fellow Rammstein fans and metalheads!

Please join in if you love metal and enjoy going to concerts!

It'd be great if anyone wants to share info on new releases they've enjoyed, concert announcements, doesn't know many metallers and wants to link up with people going to a particular gig.

Let us know the last gig you went to and the ones you've missed this year or what new albums you've been enjoying recently!

The last gig I went to was 3teeth and I've been listening to the new songs from The Pretty Reckless and the new Katatonia release.

🖤🎸🤘🏻🎸🖤 Rock on everyone!

Also another vote for Halestorm - we saw them at Academy 3 in Manchester on the tour for their second album with about 200 people, then again at Download headlining the second stage last year amazing both times

SlippersForFlippers · 30/11/2020 11:41

I like the app radio garden, you can listen to radio all around the world, I found a good German rock station.

DrDreReturns · 30/11/2020 11:51

I love metal but I'm not a big concert goer. The last one I went to was AC/DC at Wembley five years ago. The other band I'd love to see is Iron Maiden.

Just listening to Planet Rock now, I find they do tend to repeat the same songs a lot tend not to waver very much, however I first heard Brothers Osborne during lockdown on PR and have a been a bit hooked

Years ago there was a US station called KRQR I used to listen to a lot when I visited, very good, will look for it on radio garden I had forgotten all about that

DK123 · 30/11/2020 13:35

@SebastianTheCrab welcome! Thanks for joining! The more the merrier, great to have so many metallers here!

NuMetal will always be a big part of my life! I don't know what I'd think of it if I first heard it now, but it was so life changing for me I will always love it! I completely agree re Machine Gun Kelly by the way.

Thanks for the heads up on the Devil Night Ig page, I had noticed it - others might be looking at the stuff on there so thank you for letting everyone know they're dodgy.

If anyone's looking for ideas on where to get clothes, OPs might also have some recommendations. Some sites I buy from include: Killstar, Attitude Clothing, EMP and AllSaints in the sales.

I used to listen to KNAC for rock/metal radio - got it over the web. The introduced me to Volbeat, Godsmack, Hellyeah, Sevendust etc.

DK123 · 30/11/2020 13:37

@TheOnlyMrsW hello fellow metal head and great to read your post!

It is such a shame so many concerts have been missed this year. I had a ticket for Evanescence/Within Temptation, hoping the rescheduled concert still goes ahead!

@TheOnlyMrsW @TheOnlyMrsW

Halestorm are great! I love I miss the misery! Wish there were more strong women like Lzzy in rock/metal. They were fantastic when I saw them on with Shinedown and Alterbridge

Last gig we went to was in feb before the world went crazy. we went to see steel panther in dublin. They were brilliant :)

DK123 · 30/11/2020 13:42

@Lighingupthesky hello and thank you for joining the thread!

I wonder how many MNetters were at Monsters of Rock! I didn't get to go when it was that but I did go to Ozzfest before it was Download. Wonderful memories of hearing the opening notes of Paranoid ringing out across the dark field. Still sends shivers down my spine thinking about it!

Oooo loving this board

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/11/2020 14:41

I saw Alter Bridge, Shinedown and Halestorm! I bet when gigs happen again we'll all be looking at the crowd, trying to guess who is a MNetter!

TheOnlyMrsW · 30/11/2020 14:50

@DK123 @BobbinThreadbare123 Halestorm, Alter Bridge and Shinedown on the same bill...........that would really be something!!!! We saw Alter Bridge and Shinedown last December, and they were both fantastic
I never got to a Monsters of Rock, had a ticket for 1992 when Aerosmith were headlining but couldn't make the travel work - was 17 at the time and didn't drive, gutted now as I've never seen them and probably won't now

DK123 · 30/11/2020 14:52

@BobbinThreadbare123 @TheOnlyMrsW I know!! I think Shinedown and Alterbridge are often on together. This might be a controversial opinion but I actually thought Shinedown were better than Alterbridge live!

I'm definitely going to be looking around at everyone wondering if any of them are MNetters in future. We need a sign 😂 maybe horns pointing downwards to make an M 😂

Omg I have found my people!

The last gig I went to was Slipknot in January. Corey Taylor is perfection. I love him 😍

I've had a few things cancelled this year, Download, Slamdunk, I Prevail. So gutted that my yearly trip to Download hasn't happened this year.

I regularly go to my local club Spiders. Best club ever! There's a room for such as pop punk etc, a metal room (this is where I live, with the odd trip to the pop punk room for some dancing) and then an upstairs room that plays like 60s 70s etc. Halloween Spiders is the most amazing sight! It's like a family, and I am missing it immensely 😭

DK123 · 30/11/2020 14:54

@whodoesntlovejelly Welcome! Great to get everyone together on the thread.

It's a shame there don't seem to be any active online communities for metal lovers still going. I'm wondering if I should start a closed Facebook group for anyone who wants to join?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/11/2020 14:57

@DK123 Shinedown were better. I've seen that with a Black Stone Cherry, Shinedown and Halestorm gig as well - SD smashed it and BSC seemed to be dialling it in.

ratspeaker · 30/11/2020 15:30

Hiya all

Here's hoping for Download 2021

SlippersForFlippers · 30/11/2020 15:43

Dk123 there's a download festival group on Facebook although it's not very download orientated for much of the year!

My go to places were the cockpit, fab cafe and carpe diem in Leeds. Oh and the met uni student union. They still do the nights that were at the cockpit at keys club but haven't been in a long time.

DK123 · 30/11/2020 16:17

@SlippersForFlippers I miss the days of there being rock clubs to go to every weekend! I did not appreciate it enough at the time.

OP posts:
DK123 · 30/11/2020 16:19

What does everyone think of the Download 2021 lineup that was announced?

Are you guys happy campers or does anyone book hotels (or travel in every day by car)?

OP posts:
DK123 · 30/11/2020 16:20

@BobbinThreadbare123 I did see BSC in Nottingham a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it but they maybe weren't as good as I'd hoped.

OP posts:
BobbinThreadbare123 · 30/11/2020 16:21

I go B&B/hotel. There's a few nice ones round Loughborough. Don't mind driving in and I never both with beers - need to pee too often if I did that!

ratspeaker · 30/11/2020 16:33

I go to Download in a campervan, got my tickets and campervan pass rolled over from this year.

I'd really been looking forward to it this year , at the beginning of the year my only worry was stage timings especially on the Sunday!

So looking forward to Biffy, LacunaCoil, MylesKennedy, System, Korn and I have an Alestorm t shirt to wear

DeathMetalMum · 30/11/2020 16:43

Just joining in.
Our last gig was Shinedown/Alter Bridge last December. We were going for shinedown and was the first time we've managed to catch them live since we started listening to them, and was not disappointed. I do like Alter Bridge and Tremonti so wasn't just for shinedown.

This year we did have tickets to A Day to Remember but it's been postponed. I'd say I'm more into lighter metal, rock, punk rock but have seen Rammstein, Slipknot and many others live. Next gig is Creeper the end of March fingers crossed.
