Metal loving MNetters rock on

DK123 · 29/11/2020 16:19

I thought it would be nice to start a thread for metal loving MNetters after speaking to @ApplesandAardvarks @NastyBlouse @IndemMUND about missed concerts. Great to find fellow Rammstein fans and metalheads!

Please join in if you love metal and enjoy going to concerts!

It'd be great if anyone wants to share info on new releases they've enjoyed, concert announcements, doesn't know many metallers and wants to link up with people going to a particular gig.

Let us know the last gig you went to and the ones you've missed this year or what new albums you've been enjoying recently!

The last gig I went to was 3teeth and I've been listening to the new songs from The Pretty Reckless and the new Katatonia release.

🖤🎸🤘🏻🎸🖤 Rock on everyone!

@BobbinThreadbare123 nooo!!! I absolutely must marry him, he is my one true love, I go wobbly at the knees when I see him in the videos 😂

If anyone hasn't seen the Rammstein live in Paris video which is available on Prime Video, it's very good. I often have it playing in the background!

Ahh fine, but Dave Mustaine is still mine!

Anyway to answer the question, my last concert was Lindemann in London. It was incredible, even better than I expected and an experience to remember for so many reasons. It isn't at every concert that you have cake and fish thrown at you.

My favourite bands by far are Rammstein and Lindemann. I don't listen to as many bands as I should because I'm autistic and very much a creature of habit, but I also enjoy a lot of old school metal including Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple etc. I also dabble in a little Avatar(They're amazing live), Eisbrecher and although they aren't metal I'm counting AC/DC. I should really try to branch out more. Perhaps I'll get some inspiration from this wonderful thread.

namechange7438 · 29/11/2020 19:59

Not really my most "metaaaal" band but I have a funny story about g'n'r - I've loved them since I was Diddy, saw them at download 06 but it wasn't quite right as it was axl and friends really, I'd always been desperate to see the proper line up.

This time in 2016 they were a week away from releasing the tickets for the London shows of the not in this lifetime tour. 6 days later I discovered I was very surprisingly pregnant (meant to be infertile) nevertheless I booked standing tickets anyway and decided I would be fine going at 8 months pregnant. It comes around, there's a heatwave. I'm adamant I'm still going (despite my whale like size) and Did go - except my normal sitting outside waiting to get in for most of the day ended up meaning I had to leave during the support act. It was 38 degrees and hotter inside the stadium. I was totally gutted and physically couldn't listen to them for a long time....

About thisntime last year they announce they're doing anoth run of the tour - cue huge excitement and many lectures to my OH along the lines of "I swear to god, I don't care who COMES with me or what happens - hell nor high water will keep me from this gig. I AM GOING" repeat.

Then we had a pandemic facepalm

namechange7438 · 29/11/2020 20:06

Oh and to answer the question..... My last gig was "the atmosphere of g'n'r" 😂

I've seen an awful lot of bands - I think back now and it feels like another life (I'm only 30 odd) I was very submerged in the whole lifestyle for a very long time (think, managing the metal pubs, managing Camden shops and ending up backstage in places that, to this day, I have no idea how I managed to end up there lol) - I burned out and now live an uncool life but with a wicked playlist 😂

It's not metal but sort of a similar sub culture - are there any other ex slimes, London regulars on here??

fantasmasgoria1 · 29/11/2020 20:08

Dk123 we were at the five finger concert! I thought bad wolves were excellent!

indemMUND · 29/11/2020 20:22

@ApplesandAardvarks I met him the first time in 2017, so wasn't so nervous this time! He did get badly mobbed by people for a lot of the night and you could see clearly how uncomfortable he was with that. When people calmed down around him he was very funny. His cheeky grin is the best! I was wearing a large chain and he mimed choking me with it Grin

TurquoiseDragon · 29/11/2020 20:24

Last live gig I went to was Download 2016, got right down the front for Rammstein. I guess it was an interesting sight, seeing this fat middle aged mum amongst all the young blokes. Grin I live not far away, so I went home every night.

Having come out of an abusive relationship, I've only now got to the point of being able to go to gigs (single parent). Was planning to go to MK, but it was on my late mother's Birthday, first one since she passed away, and I wanted to be with Dad to help him through it.

Then Covid, and I'm looking around for gigs I can go to alone, since I don't have anyone to go with me. Apart from Download, what other festivals are good to go to, for lone travellers?

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 29/11/2020 20:24

@wishywashywoowoo70 I once touched Jizzy Pearl Grin I was right at the front at a Love/Hate gig at Redcar Bowl many many years ago Grin

TurquoiseDragon · 29/11/2020 20:30

Actually, I think my most memorable gig was going to see Iron Maiden on my 18th birthday, and getting backstage afterwards. Didn't actually get to speak to any of the band but being sat there watching everything going on was great.

Have seen Metallica, Bon Jovi, and Duran Duran (but we can forget about that).

I've been enjoying finding bands like Crossfaith, Disturbed, Five Finger Death Punch, and so on. The last couple of years has been great for all the music I'm finding.

DK123 · 29/11/2020 20:44

@BobbinThreadbare123 fair enough! I saw your future DH when Megadeth supported FFDP at the beginning of this year!

OP posts:
DK123 · 29/11/2020 20:47

@TurquoiseDragon sorry for your loss.
I was at Download 2016! My (middle aged) DDad actually came with me the first time I saw Rammstein many years ago! I was also in an abusive relationship and missed out on gigs and friends as a result so I know what that feels like. If you would like someone to go to gigs with please don't hesitate to DM me and I'll give you my email for when the world starts turning again!

I wish we could make this thread a RL club! You guys are my people! 🤘🏻

@fantasmasgoria1 FFDP were amazing, proper shivers down your spine brilliant! My friend and I kept turning to each other and just saying wow!

DK123 · 29/11/2020 20:50

@namechange7438 wow! It sounds like you had an amazing time! Lots of great rock n roll memories! I used to frequent the Camden shops and pubs and was also a slimes/TG etc regular so I wonder if we ever met IRL in a metal club sticky toilet late one night in the past!

ApplesandAardvarks · 29/11/2020 20:57

namechange7438 I'm sorry that you had to miss out yet again. I hope that you'll finally get the opportunity once things are back to relative normality.

TurquoiseDragon Thanks I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your Mother. I hope that you get to live the rich full life you deserve now that you're out of that terrible relationship and hopefully go to as many gifs as possible once they start again.

Daisychainsandglitter · 29/11/2020 20:59

Hello! Your comment about Corey shouting to the crowd who wasn't born when we released our first album has made me feel really old and I'm only 36!
I first saw them aged 17 at the docklands arena with In Flames supporting who I love!
Happy to see that there are some metal heads here on Mumsnet Smile

ApplesandAardvarks · 29/11/2020 21:02

IndemMund I'm green with envy now, and you got to meet him twice!, but I'm so happy for you that you got to do that. I can imagine how uncomfortable he was with being swarmed . He always looks like he's on the verge of a panic attack when he's in a crowd. I love the necklace thing. He's such a big kid sometimes but a big teddy bear with it. He's utterly charming.

DK123 · 29/11/2020 22:05

@Daisychainsandglitter I know, I think of Slipknot as fairly "new" I can't get my head round the idea of there being fans who weren't born when they started!

InFlames are great! I saw them last year but sadly they didn't play only for the weak

@ApplesandAardvarks don't know if you've seen this article but I really enjoyed it; www.kerrang.com/features/the-real-till-lindemann-meet-the-man-behind-the-flamethrower/

ApplesandAardvarks · 29/11/2020 22:11

@DK123. Thank you for the link. It's been a while since I looked at the Kerrang site.

OrangeBananaFish · 29/11/2020 22:16

Mind if I jump in with a question?
Are there any decent radio stations (not Kerrang - thats the only one I can think of) that play heavy rock/metal? Used to love Team Rock then that stopped, but I was wondering if there was anything similar?

I grew up listening to GNR and Nirvana (amongst the cheesy pop too) and did like 90's and 00's rock, but after discovering Ice Nine Kills and Five Finger death punch metal has been growing on me over the last 5 years or so.

Sorry I've not been to any gigs or festivals so can't join in properly, but hoping you might be able to help in regards to the radio suggestions.

DK123 · 29/11/2020 22:21

@OrangeBananaFish have you tired Planet Rock? They play a good mixture including new stuff like FFDP. there's also an app available for it if you can't get it through your normal/car radio. I've found a few good bands through listening to it!

OP posts:
DK123 · 29/11/2020 22:24

@ApplesandAardvarks the Kerrang website is very good actually, they have new articles every day and I feel like it's grown up with the metal fans of the late 90s rather than just being aimed at the teenagers of today.

If anyone wants some good news sites to check, I regularly look at the websites of;

Kerrang (best for content nowadays)
Metal Hammer
Loudwire (a lot of good trivia articles)
Revolver (not updated as often)
Blabbermouth
Terrorizer magazine (if you like heavier stuff)

Hi all! I've been going to gigs since I was 15 couldn't possibly name all my favourite ones, especially with going to download/Leeds festival etc.

We didn't have many music gigs booked except download so haven't had to reschedule alot.
