How many types of pasta do you usually have in the cupboard

Dh doing the weekly shop - asked him to grab some conchiglie as had run out. His response - but we already have penne and spaghetti.

Now if he’d looked a bit closer he’d also know that we have a few others too, but I can’t rest easy unless I have at least shells, something tube like and spaghetti at least in the house. Am I a weirdo? What pasta do you keep “in stock”?

Who said spaetzle?

You can buy it dried??

Seriously?

It hadn't occurred to me that this could even be a thing!

I make it 3/4 times a year from scratch 😇, with Emmentaler or Gruyere, onion and pancetta.

With a spaetzle grater an' all!

It's proper winter stodge; I learned the art in 1979 as a kitchen hand in Bavaria.

Love it!

Tagliatelle in the fridge, three different types of spaghetti, orzo, macaroni, shells (large and small), far fallen and stelline.

Ltdannygreen · 13/11/2020 22:32

Oh and tagalatelle and rigatoni

MsAwesomeDragon · 13/11/2020 22:33

I only ever have lasagne sheets and cheap spirals. And now I'm low carb we don't even need the lasagne sheets. Dd is happy with whatever shape pasta she gets (except spaghetti as she doesn't like having to twirl it)

SuiGeneris · 13/11/2020 22:33

Spaghetti, capelli d’angelo, linguine, tagliatelle and fettuccine as long pasta. Also long spaghetti Made with squid ink.
Then sheets for lasagne (normal and spinach).
Short: caserecce, fusilli, mafalde, cavatappi, trofie and corsetti.
In the fridge: ravioli and gnocchi.

DH once said “pasta is pasta” and never lived it down. He can now advise as to the best format of pasta for each sauce.

Scarby9 · 13/11/2020 22:34

Just two types - lasagne and penne. I sometimes swap the penne for macaroni. Bu that's it. Pretty unadventurous pasta haul.

FrazzledFTM · 13/11/2020 22:35

Penne
Fusilli
Spaghetti
Tagliatelle
Linguine
Rigatoni
Lasagne sheets

Does tinned spaghetti in the shape of peppa pig count? Wink

xanthippe8 · 13/11/2020 22:41

Will nobody spare a thought for Dischi Volanti? It's an endangered species.

bluebellation · 13/11/2020 22:45

Damn, having checked I find I have two bags of fusilli and no penne. Normally one of each.
Plus: spaghetti, wholewheat spagetti, wholewheat penne, lasagne, small shells for minestrone.
Trouble is, DH is diabetic so we're normally very low carb, so this lot will last us about 5 years 😁

itssquidstella · 13/11/2020 22:54

We've currently got macaroni, linguine, conchiglie, orzo and I think we have some rigatoni too.

YerAWizardHarry · 13/11/2020 22:57

Spaghetti, tagliatelle, penne and fusili here. Also always have egg noodles and boil in the bag rice too.

DahliaMacNamara · 13/11/2020 23:01

Penne - white, wholewheat and some kind of hybrid that I bought during lockdown 1.0 that nobody really wants.
Fusilli
Lasagne
Cannelloni
Spaghetti
Nothing interesting.

FloreanFortescue · 13/11/2020 23:05

Usually:
Spaghetti
Penne
Fusilli
Tagliatelle
Maybe farfalle if I'm feeling fun 😂

MustardMitt · 13/11/2020 23:44

I opened this thread scoffing that I have two, spaghetti and fusilli.

But actually.....Blush also have orzo, canelloni, linguine, lasagne, macaroni, and a longer macaroni I use for a Greek dish. I sometimes have linguine as well, I prefer it to spaghetti but I'm too tight to buy it Grin

TheSandman · 13/11/2020 23:47

Does tinned spaghetti in the shape of peppa pig count?

NO!

MummyInTheNecropolis · 14/11/2020 00:16

I currently have spaghetti, lasagne sheets, fusilli, penne and rigatoni. I usually have farfalle as well but I finished that off yesterday. If I were only allowed one type of pasta for the rest of my life, I think I’d have to go with rigatoni. I would really miss lasagne though. It’s a tough decision.

Crunchymum · 14/11/2020 00:23

Spaghetti
Linguine
Shells
Bows
Penne (white and wholemeal)
Fussilli (white and wholemeal)
Macaroni

Everything we eat requires different pasta (bows and shells are requests from the kids)

Svalberg · 14/11/2020 00:34

Anelli
Linguine
Spaghetti
Tagliatelle
Macaroni
Penne
Fusilli
Conchiglie
Vermicelli
Pappardelle
Rigatoni
Lasagne
Tortellini
Fusilli lunghi
Messicani
Orecchiette

We used the last of the farfalle yesterday, need more...

HeronLanyon · 14/11/2020 05:43

@SecretNutellaFix

Lasagne Spaghetti Penne Fusilli Some fancy pants shape I can't recall but was the only one available when I bought it during lockdown 1, the stockpiling era.
Surely a bit like the Star Wars debacle you’re slightly confused about the order of things ?? I’m hoping you haven’t overlooked the earlier releases of Brexit 1-3 The Prequels - The Brexit Box Supremacy, The Brexit Box - Hunt for Space, and The Brexit Resignation. There may be some pasta lingering from those ??? Think they are releasing a Brexit IV - ‘Back to the Future Again - The Final Reckoning’ in January !! Trouble with production though - think they just lost a co-producer. Think I prefer the Brexit series to the Covid series but it’s a damn close call.
Juanbablo · 14/11/2020 07:40

Spaghetti and lasagne sheets. We need to go shopping.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 14/11/2020 07:44

Not very many

Fusilli
Spaghetti
Fresh tagliatelle

Gluten free
Spaghetti
Lasagne sheets
Penne

fantasmasgoria1 · 14/11/2020 07:44

Just fusilli! I buy whatever I feel like when we go shopping. It is all made and tastes the same. Occasionally I will buy conchiglie if I'm doing something that will need something to catch the juice!

bluechameleon · 14/11/2020 08:51

I always have lasagne, spaghetti and at least 2 shapes. I currently have fusilli, farfalle, giant shells, orzo and some animal shaped ones which the children didn't really like so have been sitting their for ages.

ClinkeyMonkey · 14/11/2020 09:29

Loads of people seem to have orzo. I had to look it up, Philistine that I am. It looks like larvae. Think I'll stick with spiralsGrin
