How many types of pasta do you usually have in the cupboard

Dh doing the weekly shop - asked him to grab some conchiglie as had run out. His response - but we already have penne and spaghetti.

Now if he’d looked a bit closer he’d also know that we have a few others too, but I can’t rest easy unless I have at least shells, something tube like and spaghetti at least in the house. Am I a weirdo? What pasta do you keep “in stock”?

@Bwlch I could be wrong but I think spaghetti bolognese is the most eaten dinner in the UK

@JonHammIsMyJamm gnocchi is a contentious one. I can’t decide

We currently have spaghetti, bows, shells, spirals, orzo and one called lumache which I think means snails?

Little ears (conchiglie) - great with cheese sauce, they fill in with sauce
Penne - same as above for the same reason
Spaghetti - mainly for spaghetti bolognaise, and for carbonara
Butterflies (Farfalle) - on their own, with a bit of olive oil and/or fried mushrooms.
Lasagna

gnocchi is potato, flour, salt, water, and optional egg...I serve it like a pasta.

MrsJonesAndMe · 13/11/2020 18:15

Two or 3 types

BeaMends · 13/11/2020 18:17

Spaghetti, fusili and tagliatelle these days. We don't have pasta all that often actually.

burglarbettybaby · 13/11/2020 18:18

Only fusilli and spaghetti
I rarely make lasagne

CMOTDibbler · 13/11/2020 18:19

Without rummaging in the cupboard, 6 normal types at least, 5 regular GF (macaroni, penne, tagliatelli, fusilli and lasagna), and a couple of legume ones

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 13/11/2020 18:25

For those with the beam type ones - are they any good?

Not loads as we don't eat much pasta anymore - we have macaroni as DD loves it plus some spaghetti and tagiatelle

HeronLanyon · 13/11/2020 18:27

Tortiglioni is my standard
Then spaghetti
Then bochettini (sp?)
Sometime concigli (but only in the summer really for pasta salads) .
That’s it !

kowari · 13/11/2020 18:27

Four 500g bags of wholewheat fusilli

lucysmam · 13/11/2020 18:28

Atm I have spaghetti, fusilli, farfalle, tagliatelle and lasagne sheets. Possibly some conchiglie too, but I don't recall seeing those when I cleared out the pantry last weekend.

Scbchl · 13/11/2020 18:28

I always have spaghetti and lasagna sheets and one type of pasta. We use one bag per meal for our family so I buy a bag a week of whatever type we will have that week.

Quaagars · 13/11/2020 18:32

Right now we have

spaghetti
canelloni
macaroni
conchiglie

SquigglePigs · 13/11/2020 18:34

We've got fusilli, spaghetti, linguine, conchigli, lasagne, orzo, macaroni and little soup pasta bits. Often have some large tubes of some sort too but happen to have run out at the mo.

They all have a different use. You could argue we don't need spaghetti and linguine but otherwise...

NerrSnerr · 13/11/2020 18:35

We have spaghetti, macaroni, wholemeal and fusilli.

BrieAndChilli · 13/11/2020 18:36

Mind all in jars.
I have
Orzo
Spaghetti
Tagliatelle
Macaroni
Fusilli - the twisty one
The shell one
The bow one
Penne
Cannelloni tubes
Lasagne sheets

HeronLanyon · 13/11/2020 18:37

I find spag and linguini really different so I do think you ‘needs both. Sauces adhere totally differently and I taste more of the pasta with linguini. Never been fond of linguini but love spaghetti. 😂

DreadingSeason2020sFinale · 13/11/2020 18:38

Spaghetti, linguini, penne, macaroni, fusilli, farfelle, fettuccine, lasagne, conchigilie, ummm... the teeny tubes and the spiral tubes (they're decanted into tubs so dunno what they're called. I had to read the rest off the bags!Grin)
I'm not a foodie or anything but I do like to pick up different pastas to mix things up a bit

Mainly we use penne. I have a tub with 3kg of penne. I have a strong "running out of food" phobia.

mamaduckbone · 13/11/2020 18:39

Spaghetti, lasagne and one other... penne, fusili or conchigli. Wouldn't feel the need for any more than that. I would buy tagliatelle if a recipe specifically required it.

mynameiscalypso · 13/11/2020 18:40

I also have a horrifying amount and I seem to collect all sorts of random shapes (eg I have a packet of gondola shaped pasta that my parents brought back from Venice). I also like to look at pasta in foreign supermarkets and buy ones that I haven't seen before. I may need some kind of intervention. I must have at least 30 at the moment including some gluten free pasta and various lentil/chickpea type things. I do like the shells a lot though so can understand why you'd need them.

Drogonssmile · 13/11/2020 18:40

Fusilli and spaghetti wholewheat
Normal orzo
