What is it about Mrs Hinch that provokes such a reaction?

I’ve only recently become aware of her but a quick search both on here and online generally reveals all kinds of reactions, not necessarily positive.

As far as I can see she’s just doing what other ‘influencers’ do ie making money out of her online presence so why does she get it in the neck to the point that people are slagging off her son (not on here) and questioning her keeping to COVID rules (on here and yes a TAAT I guess)?

I don't like her 'brand' because she lies a lot and her 'tips' are usually stolen or dangerous, but I don't watch her or talk about online except this one post obviously! I don't know why people invest so much time and energy talking about people they don't like online but I'm sure loads of people would wonder why I invest my time and energy on the things I do so 🤷‍♀️

everythingisginandroses · 21/10/2020 18:29

I have never been on Instagram but I read her book and I thought she seemed quite sweet - hardworking, anxious, obsessed with cleaning (obvs). I think there is a lot a class prejudice on here, tbh - I have found that MNers often go mental when this is suggested, I can't imagine why Hmm Grin

HollowTalk · 21/10/2020 18:30

I would never slag off someone like Mrs Hinch on this sort of forum, which she probably comes to at times, when she's freely admitted she already suffers from severe anxiety.

tattooedmummy1 · 21/10/2020 18:33

I don't like her "brand". I'm sure she's a lovely person in real life, but I can't understand the craze over her cleaning her house Confused

Harrykanesrightsock · 21/10/2020 18:36

To me it just feels a bit like my mother preaching that I’m shit because I don’t shine my taps.

Plussizejumpsuit · 21/10/2020 18:37

I know who she is and have done for a couple of years. But don't follow her. In general I don't follow any influencers as I don't think they're interesting. From what I can tell I think people on here don't like influencers because the are vacuous and pretty pointless. I suppose in the same way reality TV starts are but they're probably one in the same thing now! I don't really like the idea of people being famous for nothing and I don't think these people add much to society but there's way worse people (like the current cabinet) to get worked up about.

I also think that because she is working class she is viewd as tacky, common, classless, whatever. There's a big anti mlm thing on here and quite rightly as they're trash. But this talk of huns seems to be about working class women a lot of the time and women being no better than they aught to be type thing.

So yeah basically a class a thing and that she's fairly pointless.

severusbadgerfox · 21/10/2020 18:38

She lies a lot? What about?

Sparklingbrook · 21/10/2020 18:38

I don't get it, but then I don't get a lot of the Instagram 'influencers'. She has loads of followers so she must be doing something right. Maybe people are a bit jealous of the seemingly perfect house/life she portrays. i don't think we see the whole picture but that's the nature of IG isn't it?

AgnesNaismith · 21/10/2020 18:42

I purposefully don’t follow her and have never seen her present or read her book. I’m sure she’s lovely but I give myself a hard enough time for not cleaning, don’t need someone else to make me feel more shit Grin I just don’t have the time.

CooperLooper · 21/10/2020 18:42

I used to like following her posts and stories on insta and did pick up a few new cleaning tips from her. But over time I found her posts became quite boasty about all the free stuff she was being given and how much money she was spending on new furniture and a massive extension etc. Eventually it just felt like it was always product placements versus cleaning and it became boring.

She became pretty unrelatable to me at that point and just felt like any other celebrity showing off their lifestyle. That's when I unfollowed her 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsWhites · 21/10/2020 18:48

I’m another one who used to like her posts, enjoyed the cleaning tips etc but I found her posts became more and more contrived as her fame increased. Everything she posts now seems to be for the purpose of advertising a ‘brand partner’ or hinting at her next move. I still see some of her stories now and they seem to be focused on weaning/recipes etc so I’m expecting to see another partnership with a baby food/recipe book type of thing pretty soon.

That being said I don’t dislike her and I wish her and her family well, at the end of the day she is taking advantage of her 5 minutes of fame, she’s not hurting anyone so I don’t understand why some people get so personal about her, it’s just not for me anymore!

icebearforpresident · 21/10/2020 18:53

I’m sure she's a lovely person in real life, but I can't understand the craze over her cleaning her house

This! A few of my friends love her and are constantly reposting her and I just think her/their life must be really boring if that’s what they get excited about.

Then again, my philosophy when it comes to housework is that no one ever lay on their death bed wishing they had done more housework so pretty sure I’m not her target audience.

MilkandWater · 21/10/2020 18:53

God, I can’t imagine. Maybe because she’s a vacuous late-capitalist symbol? Because she monetises toilet-scrubbing into a weird gendered cult? She’s a fluorescent-toothed Essex version of Marie ‘Tidy Obsessive’ Kondo? Because she thinks getting your kicks from Instagramming photographs of your freshly-shined sink with captions like ‘Live Your Life For You!!!’ is a normal, even an admirable, thing to do?

Sparklingbrook · 21/10/2020 18:59

I think at the start the cleaning tips were quite interesting and useful (does anyone remember Flylady it was a bit like those tips) but things have moved on with baby stuff and home improvements, and maybe a bit too much oversharing? She has 3 books under her belt all bestsellers though so she must have a pretty solid fan base.

Fridgeandkitchen · 21/10/2020 19:01

Good on her I say. She’s making a living. Not murdering someone.

As for reactions on here. Keyboard warriors. Wouldn’t say the same to her face. Faceless trolls who can type a bit.

I hate housework. Don’t follow her or whatever the correct term is but she seems to be doing alright for herself.

GirlCrush · 21/10/2020 19:09

i think she pricks too many consciences!!

housework queens love her......those less than house proud probably sit slagging her off surrounded by filth!!

ShirleyPhallus · 21/10/2020 19:09

I don’t think the problem is with her. She can do whatever she wants on her instagram page.

The problem is all the people following her / reposting stuff and then basically treating her like a celeb, and all that comes with it. The adoration, the hashtagging, the cutesy nicknames. But also the real bitchiness too.

How we, as a society, are making someone famous just for cleaning her house is very depressing. See also: YouTube and TikTok stars, reality TV stars etc. It’s so sad not to value intelligence and hard work over looks and willingness to be exposed. This obsession with social media / followers / looks is also contributing to serious dip in mental health and sexualisation of children.

Sorry for going off on a tangent but this social media star stuff is such crap. Mrs Hinch shouldn’t be famous and really shouldn’t have the platform to be able to be.

CatsAndEyeliner · 21/10/2020 19:13

because she lies a lot
What does she lie about @Halloweenies ?

MilkandWater · 21/10/2020 19:13

Only if you see housework as some kind of moral accomplishment, surely.
Popcornismandatory · 21/10/2020 19:15

I don't "do" social media - no FB , Twitter nor Instagram but I have heard of her and she comes across as a nice person who has found her niche.
Fair play to her!

Lollyneenah · 21/10/2020 19:15

I've just had a wee look at her Instagram- have heard of her but never paid any attention.
It does make me sigh a little bit, that a pretty lady cooking and cleaning and having a baby is 'influential'. Good for her making money off it, but I would be sorely disappointed if my own dd saw her as someone to aspire to be.

Shes clearly savvy and ambitious, so I do think it's a shame for her to make money from injecting her face and tidying her house all day

BilboBercow · 21/10/2020 19:21

It's classism. She's from Essex and gets botox and fillers and extensions. Not really interested in influencers but as a person she seems totally inoffensive.

PattyPan · 21/10/2020 19:23

I dislike that she’s making it trendy to destroy the environment through the use of toxic chemicals and microfibres...

BoulangerieBabs · 21/10/2020 19:24

I used to be more against her but after this shitty year I've changed my mind.

She's earning money in a way that means she's coping better with anxiety. I couldn't earn that way but fair play to her.

I do watch her instagram stories from time to time, particularly when I've had a really stressful day at work and I want to watch something, just normal.

This comes from a house that is nothing like hers other than my love of grey, totally different dynamic but still like watching her.

GirlCrush · 21/10/2020 19:25

@Lollyneenah why so snobbish?

she can be a good role model....she's made a massive business from nothing. book deals, brandwork, store openings, tv appearances.

she's making millions....from a liking of cleaning

i think she should be aspired to,she has to overcome crippling anxiety to further her career, she's struggling now a bit, she doesn't like tv work, but she's done very very well
