What is it about Mrs Hinch that provokes such a reaction?

BearandaSpare · 21/10/2020 18:11

I’ve only recently become aware of her but a quick search both on here and online generally reveals all kinds of reactions, not necessarily positive.

As far as I can see she’s just doing what other ‘influencers’ do ie making money out of her online presence so why does she get it in the neck to the point that people are slagging off her son (not on here) and questioning her keeping to COVID rules (on here and yes a TAAT I guess)?

OP posts:
Rainbowllama4 · 22/10/2020 12:41

I should imagine her ‘Hinch army’ are defending her from trolls and vicious comments. I am not on Instagram either but have read about her and seen photos of her and her home, she is a woman who is cashing in on clearly what a lot of people want judging by her many followers. Nothing wrong with that, you’d have to be stupid not to.

GirlCrush · 22/10/2020 12:52

@Bluntness100 I was just thinking the same thing!!

I follow her but don’t see all this weird stuff people are claiming she’s ‘done’!!

Kidneybingo · 22/10/2020 12:58

She seems nice enough, and there is something weirdly soothing about watching something basic like cleaning. My only real objection is that she buys too much stuff and encourages others to buy too much stuff. I just feel we should all be trying to consume fewer resources.

grenlei · 22/10/2020 13:02

Defending her by telling people to go kill themselves?

She doesn't need defending from fair criticism, she opens herself up to that by her own actions. If (and it's a big if) she was actually receiving hate mail, or being stalked, she could take legal action. But she isn't, despite being very public about where she lives.

So what does she need 'defending' from? And on what basis can a defence of the type above be justified?

Stacey Solomon is as bad tbh. Allowed her followers only this week to abuse a designer on social media (after having showed one of this lady's products and said it was too expensive, how she'd make her own etc), and completely sidestepped it - created a shitstorm and then walked away. Hinch is the same.

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 13:07

Defending her by telling people to go kill themselves?

How would you even know that? She predominantly posts videos of about ten seconds, so you don’t see the comments she gets, she seldom does a grid post.

I think maybe it’s time to not focus so heavily on her. I can’t understand how you guys claim to dislike her but very obviously follow her and devour everything about her, it’s the only way you could know all this stuff. I certainly don’t.

sqirrelfriends · 22/10/2020 13:11

I think she's fine, but i worry about what kind of expectations she's putting out there.

Life is hard enough without perceived pressure to have an absolutely spotless home, be the perfect mother and cook perfect meals. I don't know how she does it but I doubt her "insta" life is real.

sqirrelfriends · 22/10/2020 13:26

@LoungeLizardLhama

I think she’s a one woman ecological disaster and her all grey spotless house scares me. How on earth could you ever relax or even feel comfortable in such a sterile soulless environment? The amount of harmful chemicals people are sloshing around their houses now thanks to her will be doing horrible environmental damage and is mostly tested on animals. I’m sure she is a lovely woman but I have no desire to know anything about her at all.
And this, I've switched to all eco-friendly/ homemade as I just can't stand the thought of all those chemicals around my DS.
Fridgeandkitchen · 22/10/2020 13:44

@Cheeseboardandmincepies

I love how she met Stacey Solomon yesterday in a tier 2 restriction. No social distancing etc. What a joke. How anyone still has respect for her is beyond me when most of us haven’t even hugged our family members in months.
It was pre recorded. They didn’t meet yesterday. Stacey was on live TV yesterday. RTFT.
SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 22/10/2020 14:30

I go on Instagram to avoid my own bloody cleaning never mind watch someone else do theirs!

Its very easy to avoid these accounts and not buy a book you don't want.

grenlei · 22/10/2020 14:46

The actions of the Hinch army and similarly obsessive followers of others famous on social media are well known.

You won't see any of it on her page obviously. But every time she cries troll the barmy army start messaging anyone they suspect of being critical of her, with namecalling, abuse and indeed death threats. I've seen messages sent by her followers and they are vile. She has been informed of this and chose to ignore it which makes her equally culpable.

No different to another person I won't mention who basically encourage her followers to doxx others. People have been threatened at their homes. Just awful behaviour.

I used to be a fan but finally saw through the act when she was gifted a jusrol hamper very recently and the greed was pouring out of her

GuiltyPleasure · 22/10/2020 20:34

I follow her on Instagram, so I do view her stories, but more and more it's obvious she lacks content. It's basically Groundhog Day. She's trying to branch out into being a home account, but it's not working. She gets a "theme" and pushes it to the last degree e.g the Ron & Hen, best brother thing. Each to their own on that.
However being an influencer is her job, that she has chosen & with that IMO comes responsibility. Yesterday's lack of social distancing post with her best frenemy Stacey Solomon, which I think Stacey also posted & they both swiftly removed was a prime example. It doesn't matter whether they did it yesterday, 6 weeks or 6 months ago, it still breached COVID restrictions at any time since March & yes they should be held accountable, because thousands of people, who are "influenced" will go "if they did it, it must be ok". I also think whoever approved that at Pampers needs to be held to account as well.
I also think the reaction of both Sophie & Stacey was very telling, Stacey was in a rage, for reasons she said she couldn't explain & Sophie chose to stick her middle finger up at the "trolls". A simple "I'm sorry I got it wrong" would earn much more respect & probably more followers, which is basically what any influencer wants.

Does anyone know if this video is available to watch still? I honestly can't picture someone being greedy over pastry. How much did they send her?!
Hepzibar · 22/10/2020 21:04

@grassisjewelled how have I missed this?

Anyone who promotes a product from Rochdale is a winner in my book

What product?

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2020 21:34

It was about half a dozen maybe ten packs of jus rol, video lasted about thirty seconds, , she didn’t show her face I think , just said what each one was in her usual way as she took it out the box in her kitchen, one hand filming, one hand taking it out the box (hence you didn’t see her) and putting it on her work surface. Honestly there was nothing to see, defo no “greed pouring off her” 😂

Remoteraver · 22/10/2020 22:30

Wow, loving how my comment is getting quoted. I’ve obviously made an impact. Smile
If you saw the video you would have seen what followed. That’s why I unfollowed. Only my opinion.
There’s another 3.7 million people who disagree with me and I’m ok with that

miraloma · 22/10/2020 23:45

If you see some of the Facebook pages like 'zoflora addicts' et al, they promote terrifying tips that's going to see one of them accidentally making a chemical weapon one day.

GuiltyPleasure · 23/10/2020 00:02

I'd have to have a search through the tattle site (its way more sedate from what I've seen than many posts in AIBU! ), but I definitely saw a post there & someone had emailed the pastry people & they'd apologised for getting it wrong about giving a load of freebies to her & basically not reading the room about giving freebies to a millionaire when lots of people are struggling in these times.
Which IMO is what winds people up. These influencers don't read the room & Sophie is more guilty of that than others. There's nothing wrong with doing a job, earning money. If people choose to swipe up & pay their money, that's their choice. It's the trying to pretend they're relatable, with a house full of eBay bargains, encouraging people to buy a bucket load of tat, whilst all the while hiding the top of the range Audi/Range Rovers on the drive, paid for buy the followers that is disingenuous.
Again, there's nothing wrong with the fact that she's earned her money legitimately, but anyone that's seen the video of her doing a sales pitch at a conference for other cleaning accounts suggests her anxiety is fake.
What riles people about her, more than others? I guess some people just have the ick factor?

Destinysdaughter · 23/10/2020 00:30

What will happen if you put Werthers Originals in a microwave??

Mulderitssme · 23/10/2020 07:21

@miraloma agreed. The amount of people that put Zoflora in vacuums, wax burners, diffusers and plug-ins, is just scary. There are people that bathe in the stuff FFS. If you say anything you're accused of being negative.

Also, I think it's really sad how so many women's aspirations are being capped at cleaning.

Bluntness100 · 23/10/2020 07:41

If you saw the video you would have seen what followed

Eh, I did, and nothing stands out,😂

The zoflora thing is mad, it was the same on here for awhile. People were bulk buying it and there was appreciation threads about it, it was batshit, people were using it like an air freshener, and cleaning everything with it. Not realising it was neither air freshener or cleaning product but a discinfectant.

PattyPan · 23/10/2020 18:24

@grenlei

There's taking pride in your home and there's encouraging people to mix dangerous chemicals, do things which are fire risks, exhibiting wastefulness, consumerism...and her target audience are those who really don't have the money to spend. People on low incomes or benefits who can't afford to clothe their kids because they're buying all the cleaning products she recommends! (when really you can clean a whole house using variously a bleach, a detergent and vinegar. No one needs to be febrezing their soft furnishings or spraying foam into their carpet daily, or any of the other crap she peddles!).
You don’t even need bleach! I do it all with vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and soda crystals. To hell with paying a fortune for something that’s literally going down the drain Grin

For the avoidance of doubt, Mrs Hinch's photo snuggling up to Stacey Solomon broke the coronavirus rules, irrespective of it being taken before Essex went into Tier 2. You were allowed guests in your house, but with the guideline of keeping 2 metres from them where possible. I'm guessing this may be behind them both deleting the photo soon after they'd posted it, as I doubt that Pampers wanted to be seen as not complying with the current rules in their influencer ads.

Some people are complying with the rules, some people aren't and that's up to them. Probably best not posting you doing it to your millions of followers on social media while advertising a brand.

JMG1234 · 24/10/2020 10:03

As to why some people don't like her, it's probably that her account morphed from a quirky cleaning account to one that's all about selling as many products as possible. That's not a problem, it's a valid way of making a living but the never-ending consumerism of "hinch hauls" gets a little distasteful, particularly for those struggling financially.

I find her quite disingenuous. One example being a post saying she was thinking of getting a pergola for the garden, and asking her followers which option she should go for. It transpired the landscaper had already posted a photo of her finished pergola. Again, not an issue but why the pretence?

I also find it quite strange that people have posted messages saying they love her son more than their own kids. I understand that influencers choose to share photos of their kids, and it's their choice as parents, but I'm not sure my kids would thank me for sharing photos and videos of them over social media from an early age.

In fairness, I'm probably not the most receptive audience as I find cleaning really boring and have a cleaner. And yes, people have a choice whether or not to follow people on social media so they can unfollow and move on. Equally you are not a troll if you have a negative opinion on an influencer, it's part and parcel of their job that some people will agree and others disagree.
