What is it about Mrs Hinch that provokes such a reaction?

I’ve only recently become aware of her but a quick search both on here and online generally reveals all kinds of reactions, not necessarily positive.

As far as I can see she’s just doing what other ‘influencers’ do ie making money out of her online presence so why does she get it in the neck to the point that people are slagging off her son (not on here) and questioning her keeping to COVID rules (on here and yes a TAAT I guess)?

There's something very Black Mirror about this beautiful woman endlessly repeating how thankful she is whilst wandering round taking pictures of the shiny taps and perfectly placed cushions in her all-grey cage.

This obsession with absolutely spotless, staged houses is bizarre. It's not just an Instagram hallucination either. There are actual people out in the world ike this who are utterly obsessed with this idea of extreme domestication.

There's a subculture of young women on youtube who do similar things with their homes and seem to make a living putting out clean with me and day in the life videos. Their day in the life videos consist of: cleaning, decluttering, organising, exercising and preparing healthy foods. It's fascinating. Most seem to have quite high levels of anxiety so it's interesting someone mentioned Mrs Hinch also does. When I'm anxious, I know I have a tendency to become critical and controlling of my environment and up the cleaning accordingly.

@MilkandWater spot on.

I used to be a fan but finally saw through the act when she was gifted a jusrol hamper very recently and the greed was pouring out of her. Then followed a mad dash to a food bank at 7 pm at night after asking her followers which ones were open etc. It was all for show and put me right off

For a few packs of pastry? Confused

BakewellGin1 · 21/10/2020 21:58

I personally don't mind her posts, I don't have enough time to really focus on whether she is offensive or inoffensive however I can vouch for the fact a 2p coin can get rid of limescale on taps - I came home today and my Mum had done mine and believe me when I say I thought I had tried everything ha ha

dooratheexplorer · 21/10/2020 22:05

I have no interest in grey houses, Zoflora, cleaning hacks, 'hauls' or Mrs Hinch. It's all far too dull.

Yes, exactly that.
movingagain20 · 21/10/2020 22:07

She's successful and popular. Many British people like an underdog, it makes her an easy target sadly.

Bluntness100 · 21/10/2020 22:07

Ok, I guess we both read the few seconds of Jusrol hamper differently then, 😂

Someone1987 · 21/10/2020 22:10

I feel for her in the sense that the cleaning is a coping mechanism for anxiety. Living in a spotless home that needs a deep clean everyday is not, what I would deem, a healthy obsession. When her son starts making a mess (AKA being a child) she will likely struggle and he will become a mini her and afraid of any mess.

Someone1987 · 21/10/2020 22:15

Also it's worrying how obsessive some followers are #hincharmy 😳. How they feel emotional as though she's a friend and messaging saying how proud they are of her. It's very very odd and not something I would consider as a 'normal' response to a stranger.

Coriandersucks · 21/10/2020 22:20

@Someone1987 do you actually follow her? Her son makes a mess quite a lot and she often takes before and after photos. Her living is made from cleaning (mainly) so it’s in her interests to show herself cleaning so I doubt any of it is related to her anxiety (though not doubting she suffers obvs just that this is her business so she needs to be seen to be keeping up with it).

UnitedRoad · 21/10/2020 22:27

I’ve never watched her or read anything about her apart from on here, but a young woman I support, is obsessed. The reason I’m anti Mrs Hinch is that my friend (late 20s married mother of two) has had three small house fires since following her. All because apparently it’s nice to put decorations on your hob when it’s not in use. She had a tray of plastic succulents twice, and the other time was a pretty tea towel. Friend didn’t completely turn the hob off (which makes me wonder how often this happens) and ended up with a small fire. Scares me half to death, and doesn’t matter how many times I tell her not to do it, she tells me that Soph does it. She seriously sees her as a mate.

You can't blame mrs hinch for her repeating the same mistake 3 times Confused
AbsentmindedWoman · 21/10/2020 22:42

How can ANYONE be so zealous about cleaning?

Quite frankly I don't think it's healthy, I have seen it mentioned that she has anxiety and it strikes me that the cleaning is a displacement behaviour for that anxiety.

So no, I don't think women should be encouraged to pour their anxiety or dissatisfaction with life into house cleaning and disinfecting. That does not address what is really going on.

thewitchesofprestwick · 21/10/2020 23:07

I had to look her up. it feels as though we’ve gone back to the 50s. Is there a male equivalent to Mrs Hinch?

She's not as bad as that Helmsley and Helmsley pair

PawPawNoodle · 22/10/2020 02:21

@cleaningwithmario is an almost direct male equivalent of her.

I chose to stop following her some time ago. I don't find her very authentic and definitely don't relate to her any more. She can be very disingenuous which I find so frustrating given she is clearly very intelligent. I'm glad she has made a lot of money but I think she deceives her viewers with her spending of it.

I also find the relationship she has with her husband a bit toxic and I don't like watching it.

I wish her well and I'm glad for her success, but she is no longer for me.

gurteee · 22/10/2020 02:43

Saw her in an interview - came across as a nice personality. Was amazed to hear she suffers from severe anxiety - thought you'd need to be tough as old boots to put yourself out there as an influencer!

LoungeLizardLhama · 22/10/2020 03:05

I think she’s a one woman ecological disaster and her all grey spotless house scares me. How on earth could you ever relax or even feel comfortable in such a sterile soulless environment? The amount of harmful chemicals people are sloshing around their houses now thanks to her will be doing horrible environmental damage and is mostly tested on animals. I’m sure she is a lovely woman but I have no desire to know anything about her at all.

Halloweenies · 22/10/2020 04:07

I've never heard their relationship described as toxic before, I've heard negative things about how they got together but everyone always says they're a perfect couple. I've never seen her videos though so I've never seen them interact.

Kokeshi123 · 22/10/2020 04:17

I do wonder what will happen when everyone gets bored of the grey home decor.

Onedropbeat · 22/10/2020 04:27

I love an immaculate house but the chemical usage of hers is horrific

I think it’s irresponsible to be pushing all that and the associated plastic waste to people

laudemio · 22/10/2020 04:43

The grey. The chemicals.

Mulderitssme · 22/10/2020 06:23

@36degrees I was going to say the same thing. I remember her being on one of the groups where she would ask for tips and then they'd appear on her Instagram.

I dislike the cult around her, the awful grey decor and the way that women are being told it's their perogative to keep their home in a certain condition. One poor girl in her 20's was really upset as she couldn't keep up with the standards set by Hinch. I tried to reassure her that she was only seeing a highly curated version and that real life was also very different. I hope she is no longer so hard on herself.

I dislike the cultist attitude of "Hinch Army", I find the devotion really quite creepy and they can get nasty if you disagree with MH.

I also dislike her dangerous tips. The number of people that have had accidents due to her "tips". When the fire brigade and companies like Zoflora are warning against this woman's tips, you know something is wrong.

Lastly, it's not "Hinching", it's cleaning.
